She was a member of Chapel Baptist Church in Fort Worth.
She was preceded in death by her husband, E. L. Smith Jr., in 1985.

ARLINGTON -- Phil Spalding, 77, a retired Aircraft Manufacturing Engineer, died Monday, June 2, 1997, in Arlington.
Memorial service: 4 p.m. Thursday at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 911 S. Davis in Arlington.

Phil Spalding was born Sept. 19, 1919, in Enid, Okla., and was raised there.
He attended the University of Arkansas. Mr. Spalding was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a longtime member of Rolling Hills County Club and an active member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church of Arlington for 45 years. He was employed by LTV for 35 years and retired in 1982. He was a member of the retired LTV Clown's Association. He enjoyed traveling and coaching Little League Baseball.
Survivors: Wife, Mary Spalding of Arlington; sons, James P. Spalding of Trophy Club and Edward J. Spalding of Arlington; sister, Sylvia Weston of Rogers, Ark.; six grandchildren; and 10 great- grandchildren.

Ruth B. Gotcher Stone was born July 5, 1910, in Decatur. She married Jess Gotcher on Jan. 2, 1930, who preceded her in death in December 1985. She married Gilbert Stone in November 1987, who preceded her in death in November 1996. She was a member of the Fundamental Baptist Church in Decatur.
