BENBROOK -- Georgia Etta Herring Baker, 95, a retired gift wrapper, died Sunday, June 1, 1997, at a local nursing home.

Georgia Etta Herring Baker was born June 10, 1901, in Salesville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charley Baker, in 1982 and two sons, Wilson Baker and Glenn Allen Baker.
She had been a gift wrapper at Leonards Department Store.

Clarence Benoit
ARLINGTON -- Clarence "Ben" Benoit, 72, a retired aerospace field engineer, died Monday, June 2, 1997, in Arlington.

Clarence "Ben" Benoit was born May 24, 1925, in Burlington, Vt.
He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on Jan. 30, 1943, and served until being honorably discharged on Nov. 9, 1945. While in the South Pacific he fought in four major battles with the Marine Raiders. He participated in action against enemy forces (Japanese) during the consolidation of the Northern Solomons at Bougainville Islands, British Solomon Islands from Dec. 4, 1943, to Jan. 12, 1944, and Guam, Marianas Islands from July 21, 1944, to Aug. 27, 1944. He was employed with LTV oral Corporation and retired in 1994 after 35 years of service.

FORT WORTH -- Oris Berry, 88, a retired shipping foreman for the Fort Worth General Depot, died Monday, June 2, 1997, in Fort Worth.
Funeral: 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Catholic Church at 5508 Black Oak Lane in River Oaks.
Oris Berry was born Dec. 22, 1908, in Crowley, La. He worked his entire career with federal civil service. He retired from the Fort Worth General Depot in 1957. In his younger years, he played semi-pro baseball.

She was the widow of Samuel Cook, a pioneer drilling contractor in the East Texas and Arkansas oil exploration era.
Mrs. Cook had been a member of First United Methodist Church since 1929.

James C. "Jim" Fails graduated from Texas A&M University and Southern Methodist University Law School. He served as a pilot with the Air Force and worked as an engineer and patent attorney for Mobil Oil Co. before entering private practice in Fort Worth.
He was a member of University Baptist Church and a member and past president of the Fort Worth Founders Lions Club.

CLEBURNE -- O.C. Forrest Jr., 68, founder and co-owner of Forrest Chevrolet-Oldsmobile-Cadillac and Forrest Pontiac-Buick-GMC auto dealerships of Cleburne, passed away Saturday, May 31, 1997, at a Cleburne hospital.
Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church. Burial: Rose Hill Cemetery in Cleburne. The service will also be broadcast in the Christian Activity Center. The Forrest family will host a luncheon in honor of Mr. Forrest at the First Baptist Church immediately following burial. Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Crosier-Pearson Funeral Home.

Mr. Forrest was born Sept. 14, 1928, in Strawn and reared on the family farm near Blum. He attended school in Blum, often riding a horse or a farm tractor into town. He also attended Cleburne High School.
He worked on the family farm and, as a teenager, owned the first combine in Johnson County. With his father, he operated a statewide oxygen supply business.
He married Martha Jean Clarke in Cleburne Oct. 3, 1947. They have lived in Cleburne since 1956.
Mr. Forrest began his automotive sales career with Steakley Motors of Cleburne in 1949, rising to sales manager and general manager before purchasing the busineess in 1964, renaming it Forrest Chevrolet-Cadillac.
In 1971, the dealership was relocated to its present site on North Main Street. The Forrest family purchased the other General Motors dealerships in 1990, creating Forrest Chevrolet-Geo- Oldsmobile-Cadillac and Forrest Pontiac-Buick-GMC.
Other business interests included serving as executive board chairman of Cleburne Truck and Body Company from 1970 to 1973, when the business was sold to Carrier Corporation. Mr. Forrest served as a director of Cleburne National Bank and raised Hereford cattle on two ranches in the Rio Vista area.
His professional affiliations included serving as an area director and a state director of the Texas Automobile Dealers Association, a member of the Chevrolet Motor Division's Dallas Zone Planning and Community Relations Committees and was a present-day member of the board of the Fort Worth Better Business Bureau.
His many community and civic involvements include serving two terms as president of the Cleburne Kiwanis Club, which named him Outstanding Kiwanian in 1958 and Kiwanian of the Year in 1960. Mr. Forrest also served as a director and vice president of the Cleburne Chamber of Commerce. He was a past president and director of the United Way of Johnson County and a former director of the Johnson County Red Cross. He was also involved in the "Build Cleburne Campaign," sponsored by the Cleburne Downtown Merchants Association. He enjoyed his participation in the Green Thumbs Garden Club.
Mr. Forrest served as a director of the Cleburne Industrial Foundation and on the senior board of its successor, the Cleburne Economic Development Foundation. He was a charter member of the Cleburne Christian Businessmen's Club and a member of Tuesday Forum. He was a member of the Petroleum Club of Fort Worth.
In 1990, Mr. Forrest was honored for Outstanding Commitment to Johnson and Hill Counties by the NAACP, and in 1982, he received the Outstanding Businessman's Award from the Cleburne Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Forrest generously supported the Longhorn Council of the Boy Scouts of American and his church.
The Forrests were members of the First Baptist Church of Cleburne where Mr. Forrest served as a deacon and a trustee as well as on many other committees. He was chairman of the successful Christian activities building fund and debt retirement campaigns.
His hobbies were gardening, ranching, traveling, community activities and spending time with his grandsons.
