Horace H. Johnson Jr.
ARLINGTON -- Horace Hobson Johnson Jr., 66, a retired helicopter machinist, died Wednesday, May 28, 1997, in Arlington after a courageous, seven- year battle with myeloma cancer.
Funeral: 1 p.m. Saturday at Arlington Funeral Home. Burial: Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington. Visitation: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials: North Texas Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
Horace Hobson Johnson Jr. was born Nov. 15, 1930, to Horace and Ada Lee Johnson of Fort Worth.
He graduated from Godley High School and attended Arlington State College. He retired from Bell Helicopter in 1992. He served as a sergeant first class in the U.S. Army in Korea.
Mr. Johnson was baptized at age 16 at Godley Baptist Church and was a current member of Webb First Baptist Church. He was an endowed charter member of Webb Masonic Lodge 1454 A.F. & A.M., a dual endowed member of Arlington Masonic Lodge 438 A.F. & A.M. and a member of the Webb Chapter 1140 Order of the Eastern Star. He was also a member of the Arlington Chapter 376 R.A.M., Arlington Council 314 R. & S.M. and Commandery of Knight Templar 203, York Rite Mason in Arlington. He was also a member of VFW Post 6111.
He received the Masonic Golden Trowel Award in 1994 and recently was honored by the Webb Masonic Lodge, which named its dining facility in his honor.
The family would like to express their appreciation to their many friends, doctors, nurses and Lodge and Star Chapter members who have offered their support, and to their neighbors who have run many errands and mowed their lawn for seven summers.
His pride and joy was his grandson, Royce. Royce was his "Buddy," the love of his life.
