BURLESON -- Bobby W. Crawford, 68, who had retired as a truck driver for Santa Fe Trail Transportation after 34 years, died Wednesday, May 28, 1997, at his home.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Saturday at Laurel Land Funeral Home of Fort Worth. Burial: Laurel Land Memorial Park of Fort Worth. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials: Community Hospice of North Texas.

Bobby W. Crawford was born Oct. 31, 1928, in Electra.

Survivors: Wife, Mary Crawford of Burleson; daughters and sons-in-law, Julia and Gerald Roden, Jo Nell and Donnie Unger, Judith and Bobby Merck and Janice Sheid, all of Burleson; four brothers; one sister; 6 grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jewell Gentry DeWitt
PALO PINTO -- Jewell Gentry DeWitt, 87, a retired registered nurse, died Wednesday, May 28, 1997, in Mineral Wells.

Funeral: 11 a.m. Saturday at Palo Pinto United Methodist Church. Burial: Rough Country Ranch in Palo Pinto.

Jewell DeWitt was born March 19, 1910, in Carbon, Texas. She was a registered nurse who retired from Harris Hospital Vocational Nursing School, where she was an instructor for many years. She was a veteran of World War II. She had been a resident of Palo Pinto County and a member of Palo Pinto United Methodist Church since 1981.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Stephen Craig, and her husband, Joseph D. DeWitt, in 1976.

Survivors: Daughter and son-in-law, Harriet and George Smith of Palo Pinto; sister, Lucille Young of Lubbock; grandchildren, Gary Smith and wife, Gaylene, of Fort Polk, La., and Rebecca Ann Smith and Joshua Craig Smith, both of Palo Pinto; great-grandson, Samuel Wayne Smith of Fort Polk, La.; other close family members, Tony and Robin Shifflett of Saginaw and David and Karen Watson of Arlington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Thadies Erwin was born Jan. 14, 1907, in Paradise.

Survivors: Daughter, Vicki Palmer of Mount Pleasant; brother, Avery Erwin of Paradise; sisters, Iva Nivens of Greenville, Verla Tipton of Fort Worth and Jean Orindorf of Lake Tawakoni; grandchildren, Robin Clemmons, Shawn and Ryan Palmer; and two great grandchildren, Erik and Garrett Palmer.

FORT WORTH -- Mary Helen Swint Fields, 79, who had retired as a geological draftsperson for an oil company after many years, died Monday, May 26, 1997, in Corpus Christi.

Funeral: 10 a.m. Saturday at Laurel Land Funeral Home Chapel of Chimes in Fort Worth. Burial: Laurel Land Memorial Park.

Mary Fields was born Sept. 6, 1917, in Brandon. She graduated from Polytechnic High School in 1935.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter J. Fields, in 1973.

Survivors: Son, Vernon and wife, Cordelia Fields of Fort Worth; two daughters, Carolynn and Don Deramus of Midland and Susan and Kim Robinson of Corpus Christi; sister, Vola Marie Mitchell of Huntsville, Ala.; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

GRANBURY -- J.E. Fluitt, 83, a retired Brazos River Authority engineer, died Wednesday, May 28, 1997, at a Granbury hospital.

Funeral: 10 a.m. Saturday at Vine Life Tabernacle Church in Glen Rose. Graveside service: 4 p.m. in Hoover's Valley Cemetery in Burnet County. Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Wiley Funeral Home in Glen Rose.

J.E. Fluitt was born Dec. 11, 1913, in Hoover's Valley in Burnet County.

Survivors: Sons, Jimmy Fluitt and Clyde Fluitt, both of Waco, and Flavil Fluitt of Glen Rose; daughters, Zelda Mae Williams of Japan, Jackie Baxter of Cleburne; brother, Shelton Fluitt of Dripping Springs; sister, Ruth Sutton of Dallas; 16 grandchildren; 16 great- grandchildren; and four great-great- grandchildren.

FORT WORTH -- Mable Odessa Hale, 72, who retired as an apartment building superintendent with Paul Burg in New York City, died Tuesday, May 27, 1997, at home.

Mable Hale was born Oct. 20, 1924, in Mumford.

Mrs. Mable Odessa Cooper Hale was the daughter of the late Cornelious and Isabella cooper. She attended Ed Wilson School and graduated from I.M. Terrell High School in 1941. She moved to New York City and united with Saint John Baptist Church. In 1981, Mrs. Hale moved back to Fort Worth and united with Rising Star Baptist Church. Rev. T.H. Davis was pastor.

Survivors: Husband, Sidney J. Hale of Fort Worth; daughter, Tanya Lee Hale of Little Rock, Ark.; brothers, Johnnie Cooper of Los Angeles, Calif., Dennis Cooper of Fort Worth and Walter Fred Cooper of King Mountain, N.C.; sister, Omae Lee Murray of Fort Worth; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Gordon Heath was born Jan. 17, 1936, in Valley Mills, Texas. He was an avid outdoorsman, a loving father and husband, and a caring friend. He was Dusty's PaPa.

FORT WORTH -- Annie Peveto Hoffman, 100, a retired clerk for Famous Waterwell, died Wednesday, May 28, 1997, at a local nursing home.

Graveside service: 11 a.m. Saturday in Woodland Park Cemetery of Mineral Wells. Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Annie Peveto Hoffman was born Dec. 8, 1896, in Mineral Wells. She was the youngest of 9 children of the Ashburn family, a pioneer Mineral Wells family.

She was a longtime member of Mineral Wells First United Methodist Church. She doted on her grandchildren and loved to fish. Mrs. Hoffman was a modern lady for her era.

Survivors: Daughter, Eloise Sammons of Fort Worth; granddaughters, Kathy Sammons-Collard and her husband, Mike, of Fort Worth, Linda Bailey and her husband, Frank, of Arkansas and Suzanne Kelley of El Paso; and great-grandchildren, Kimberly Collard of Fort Worth, Christopher Collard of Fort Worth, Travis Bailey of Arkansas and Becky Bailey, Kristen Curtis and Allison Kelley, all of Fort Worth.

CORPUS CHRISTI -- Jean Davis Jenkins, 75, passed away Monday, May 26, 1997.

Graveside service: 3 p.m. Saturday in Greenwood Memorial Park in Fort Worth.

A former Fort Worth resident, Jean Davis Jenkins attended Lillie B. Clayton Elementary and McLean Junior High and graduated from Paschal High School with the class of 1939. She attended Lindenwood College in Missouri and the University of Texas at Austin, where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha. Mrs. Jenkins was a member of the Colonial Dames of America and Daughters of the American Revolution.

Survivors: Sons, Borden Jenkins of Corpus Christi and Pat (Bea) Jenkins of Waskom; daughter, Jennifer (David) Myres of Bellville; six grandchildren; and brothers, Bill Davis of Fort Worth and Bob Davis of Midland.
