Harvey "Shorty" Brown
ARLINGTON -- Harvey Lee "Shorty" Brown, 58, a farmer, died Monday, May 19, 1997, at a local medical center.
Funeral: 2 p.m. Thursday at Blessing Funeral Home. Burial: Hawkins Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Harvey Brown was born Aug. 8, 1938, in Ropesville, Texas.
On Monday, May 19, 1997, Harvey Lee Brown hung up his spurs. Anyone who knew him, knew that there were few things he liked better than a good fight. And fight he did. Most of those who knew him, knew him as "Shorty." Everyone that met him knew that he had spent a good part of his life fighting to live. Shorty survived by-pass surgery, 17 heart attacks, two light strokes, congestive heart failure, and then sudden cardiac death. Anyone of those would have taken most people down. Shorty Brown was not most people. He worked hard, lived hard, and played hard. He loved his family, although he didn't always understand or agree with the way they lived. His family loved him and tried to support him in his fight for life. He had a passion for living hard that few people really understood. His grandchildren loved him and spent their time sharing stories with him. They compared his life with theirs. They picked him flowers, made him cards and posters, and learned about life through his eyes. His newest grandson, only five months old, knew his papa when he talked to him. He married Rita French of Petit, Texas, in 1955. They were divorced in 1985.
Survivors: Former wife, Rita French Brown; son, Dennis Brown of Arlington; daughters, Reba Blevens, and Retha Simmons and husband, Kevin, all of Arlington; brother, Donald Brown of Lubbock; sisters, Wanda Smith of Burkburnett and Gloria Anderson of New York, N.Y.; grandsons, Jeremy and Spencer Blevens and Kurston Simmons, all of Arlington; and granddaughters, Allison and Natalie Brown and Leanna Simmons, all of Arlington.
