FORT WORTH -- Eric S. Elkins, 45, a diabetes educator and exercise therapist for Control Diabetes Service Inc., died Wednesday, April 30, 1997, in Clifton after an extended battle with brain cancer.
Funeral Mass: 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Rita Catholic Church in Dallas. Rosary: 4 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial: 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Clifton Memorial Park in Clifton.
Eric S. Elkins was born Jan. 30, 1952, in New Orleans, La. He was a 1970 graduate of Dallas Jesuit College Preparatory School and a 1975 graduate of Southeast Oklahoma State University. He received his master's degree in sports physiology from the University of Houston.
He was preceded in death by his father, Luther C. Elkins.
Survivors: Fiancee, Camille La Roe; mother, Connie D. Elkins of Clifton; brother and his wife, Brent and Jessie Elkins of Wasilla, Alaska, and their children, James, Jordan and Johnna; brother and his wife, Dean and Mea Elkins of Houston and their children, Alex, Eric, Brodie and Emily; sister and her husband, Lisa and Gabriel Goncalves of Dallas and their son, Gabriel; and sister, Vicki McCrea of Dallas and her daughters, Ashley and Megan.

RIVER OAKS -- Lillie Piland Fox, 86, died Tuesday, April 29, 1997, in Benbrook.
Funeral: 2 p.m. Saturday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Burial: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Lillie Piland Fox was born Dec. 5, 1910, in Weatherford. She was saved at the age of 8 and worked for the Lord the rest of her life. She won her husband, Robert E. Fox Sr., to the Lord and the same year won her four stepchildren. She also won many of her grandchildren. She taught Sunday school for more than 25 years at First Baptist Church of Fort Worth and won many, many lost souls to the Lord. Her first love was to the Lord and her second love was her husband and children.
Mrs. Fox was a member of Delta Rho Delta sorority. She was a private duty nurse and served 25 years as regional manager of sales for Heritage of California. She was a member of Birchman Baptist Church. Lillie P. Fox helped support many preachers and helped to build new churches. She never met a stranger and helped people all her life.
She was preceded in death by her stepdaughter, Nancy Lee LaRochelle.
Survivors: Her husband of 44 years, Robert E. "Bob" Fox Sr. of River Oaks; stepsons, Dr. Robert E. Fox Jr. of Oklahoma and George W. Fox Sr. of Massachusetts; sisters, Lucille Miller and Clara Hubbard, both of Fort Worth, and Cecile Turpin of Kansas; brother, James L. Piland of Weatherford; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

PAYSON, Ariz. -- Frank B. Gayle, 84, a retired Oscar Mayer Co. sales manager, died Saturday, April 26, 1997, at a hospital in Phoenix, Ariz.
Memorial service: pending at First Southern Baptist Church in Payson, where he was a member.
Frank B. Gayle was born in Fort Worth on Oct. 26, 1912, the son of Dr. and Mrs. Will R. Gayle. Upon retiring in 1967, Mr. Gayle and his wife moved from California to Payson.
Survivors: Wife of 60 years, Drucilla Gayle of Payson; daughters, Dru Ann Faeth and Cathy Vandervort of Van Nuys, Calif.; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, all of Van Nuys; sister, Grace Gayle Needham of Fort Worth; niece, Gaylen N. HOUSTON -- Don Gernsbacher, 70, retired from music sales, died Monday, April 28, 1997, at a Houston hospital.
Graveside service: 1 p.m. Sunday in the Beth-El section of Greenwood Memorial Park.

Born in Fort Worth on Feb. 16, 1927, Don Gernsbacher was the son of Regina and Aaron Gernsbacher. He attended school in Fort Worth and graduated from Texas Christian University with a degree in music, a lifelong love. Following graduation, Don gave music lessons in Fort Worth. After several years of teaching, he continued his music career in sales in Dallas and later Houston. In the last 10 years, Don had an incurable illness. This did not prevent him from being the independent person he was. He was devoted to his nieces and nephews, whom he visited at every opportunity.
Survivors: His brother, Robert "Bob" Gernsbacher and his wife, Margie, of San Antonio; and nieces and nephews, Claudia Bankler, Randy Gernsbacher and Susan Siegle of San Antonio, Janice Harrison and Jonni Meyerson of Fort Worth, Jerry Meyerson of California and Regina Meyerson of Dallas.

Dick Gunn was born June 5, 1922, in Ohio. He was an Azle resident for the last 20 years. He retired from the insurance business as an insurance adjustor for several companies. He served in the USAF from 1943 to 1947, having served in Northern France, Normandy, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe.

Floretta Hall was born Feb. 19, 1914, in Diville, Texas. She was a cafeteria attendant at Brewer Middle School for 19 years. She taught in the 5-year-old Sunday School Department at First Baptist Church of White Settlement for 35 years, where she was also a member of the L.L.L. Choir. She was an area resident since 1942.
Survivors: Daughters, Mary Lou Meuir and husband, Wayne, of White Settlement and Pat McReynolds and husband, Tom, of Wichita Falls; five grandchildren; three great- grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren.

John Holmes Sr. was born Nov. 16, 1920, in Denison, Texas. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He was stationed in Alaska with the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Olivia Johnson on Oct. 15, 1938, in Tahoka, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, W.H. and Lalla B. (Hutchins) Holmes.

Earl Eugene James was born Feb. 8, 1923, in Oklahoma City, Okla. He graduated from Oklahoma University and received his master's degree from SMU. He was a lieutenant junior grade in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of B.P.O.E. Lodge 124, the Air Force Association, U.S. Naval Institute, the General Dynamics Management Association, National Management Association, University of Oklahoma Alumni Association, Pi Kappa Alpha, Alpha Chi Sigma, Tau Omega, Squaw Creek Golf Club and the Camera Club. He retired from General Dynamics in 1992 after 43 years of service. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth. Mr. James served on the board of the Castleberry school district for 141/2 years and was chairman of the board of the Northwest Branch of the YMCA for 1971.
He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and never met a stranger.

Mary Anne Jarmek was born Nov. 8, 1915, in Paducah, Ky. She was married June 2, 1950, to Edmund J. Jarmek in Corinth, Miss.
Mrs. Jarmek was an avid bridge player and a very loving and giving woman to all.

ARLINGTON -- Irene Ellen Jones, 74, died Thursday, May 1, 1997, at an Arlington hospital.

Mrs. Jones willed her body to Southwestern Medical School in Dallas and will be cremated.
Irene Jones was born in Charlestown, Mass., and was a 40-year resident of Arlington. She was a longtime Republican and was the precinct chairman at C.C. Duff School. She was a member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church.
