PELOQUIN, Margie H.: 1926 – 2007

Margie Evelyn Peloquin, 81, of Baytown, passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2007, in her home. Margie was born April 29, 1926, to Claborn and Beadie Hooper in Goodlett, Texas.

She graduated Valedictorian of her senior class from Cedar Bayou High School in 1945. Margie remained a lifelong learner and avid reader throughout her life. Her family celebrates her life as a lover of trees, crosswords, books, life, any worthy challenge, and as a true southern lady.

She was a member of Cedar Bayou Methodist Church. Margie retired from GTE in 1990 after many years of faithful service and career growth. She will be deeply missed by all family and friends who knew and loved her.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Clifford Hooper and Alvis Hooper; sisters, Ruby Herron and Rosemary Hooper, and former husband of 20 years, Allen Peloquin. She is survived by daughter and best friend, Susan Peloquin of Baytown; sons, Allen Peloquin and wife, Cheryl of Austin, TX., Jason Peloquin and wife, Leslie of Baytown, Paul Peloquin and wife Lenay of Baytown: brothers Wayne Hooper of Baytown, and C.M. Hooper Jr. of Hamilton, TX; Sister, Edna Mulkey of Hamilton, TX; Grandchildren, Lyssa Peloquin, Brynn Peloquin, Lacee Peloquin, Greg Peloquin, Somer Peloquin, Kylie Peloquin and Logan Peloquin; and treasured friends, Billie Jean Wright, Loetta Sossaman, Nancy Robinson and Dee Dee Mondini.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday July 21, 2007 at Cedar Bayou Methodist Church, 2714 Ferry Road, Baytown, with Reverend Tommy Lyles officiating.

SIMMONS, Edith Marie: 1916 – 2011

Edith Marie Williams Simmons, age 94, died Tuesday, the 14th day of June 2011 at The Villlage At Ware Memorial in Amarillo, Texas. She was born July 15, 1916, in Goodlett, Hardeman County, Texas, to Freeman M. and Stella May Ramsey Willams. She was raised in Childress and married Francis Lee Simmons on September 15, 1934. Edith and Francis remained in Childress where they worked and raised their family. She retired from United Supermarket after many years of service.

Services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, June 17, at The Johnson Funeral Home Chapel at 307 Avenue C. N.W. in Childress. Burial will be in the Childress Cemetery. Relatives and friends are welcome to join in the celebration of her life.

Work was the most important thing to Edith, but in addition she loved gardening, fishing, crocheting, canning and cooking for her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. She was a caregiver for many friends and residents around the Childress community even in her later years. If someone was in need, Edith was just the person to help. A favorite memory of Edith and Francis’ years together was in 2005 when they were crowned King and Queen of the Old Settler’s Rodeo.

Edith will be remembered for her honesty, integrity, hard work, perseverance and her no-nonsense personality that allowed her to raise her seven children.

Edith is survived by her daughter, Shirley Mills and husband, Robert of Childress.

Daughter-Gayle Canon and husband, Roger of Wichita Falls, Texas.

Daughter-Toni Schubarth of Ft. Worth, Texas.

Son-John Simmons of Dumas, Texas.

Son-Bill Simmons and wife, Grace of Atoka, Oklahoma.

Brother-Bob Williams and wife, Madie of Olton, Texas.

Life-Long Friend-Florence Gallagher of Childress, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis in 2006, parents, brothers; Joe Willams, Carroll Williams, Bill Williams and sisters; Mabel May, Roxie Parnell and Johnnie Cramer, and son-in-laws, Jimmy Moates and David Schubarth, and a grandson, Mark Moates.

Edith’s family would like to thank her Ware Memorial family for the love and kindness that was shown to her and her family during her illness the last couple of years.

KLAPPER, Anna Mae: 1912 – 2000

Former Hardeman County resident Anna Mae Klapper, 87, of Arlington, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, in Arlington.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Price-Jackson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Cliff Johnson, pastor of Goodlett Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Goodlett Cemetery.

Klapper was born Oct. 17, 1912, in Paris, Texas, a daughter of the late George T. and Millie M. Moree Melton. She married Vernon M. Klapper on Oct. 7, 1929, in Hollis, Okla., and he preceded her in death on Dec. 30, 1999.

A Hardeman County resident for most of her life, she was a homemaker and a former schoolteacher who taught for five years at Lazare. She was a member of Goodlett Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Verna Jo Werner of Arlington; a sister, Veda Melton of Oceanside, Calif.; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Care or Goodlett Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

TIDMORE, Virginia: 1933 – 2011

Virginia Tidmore, 78, of Amarillo formerly of Quanah died Saturday, April 2, 2011, in Dumas.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church in Quanah with Monte Lumpkin, pastor of Goodlett Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Quanah Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Virginia was born Feb. 16, 1933, in Crowell to Ralph and Fern McKown. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Quanah where she was a GA sponsor and member of women’s Bible class. She was also a member of the Senior Citizens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thad Tidmore.

She is survived by a son, Ron Tidmore and wife Meg of Roswell, N.M.; a daughter, Pat Barrett and husband Galen of Amarillo; a sister, CloVonne McMichael of Hurst; eight grandchildren, Cody Posey, Brandon Tidmore, Casey Brown, Andy Barrett, Cody J. Barrett, Jenci Huebner, Thad Tidmore and Sarah Tidmore; and seven great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be from noon until services time Wednesday at the church.

The family suggests memorials be sent to Memorial Hospice, 224 E. Second St., Dumas, TX 79029.

CARREGO, Frutoso “Frank”: 1943 – 2010

Frutoso “Frank” Carrego, 67, formerly of Quanah, died Wednesday, July 7, 2010.

Rosary will be said at 6 p.m. today in Smith Funeral Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Deacon Art Casias officiating. Burial will be in Goodlett Cemetery.

Mr. Carrego was born Jan. 21, 1943, in Beeville to Erasmo and Genara Gomez Carrego. He and Erlinda Fuentes were married on Sept. 17, 1967, in Post.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Zerina Carrego and Roxzy Lucio, both of Rosenberg, and Karla King of Wichita Falls; a son, Darryl Carrego of Quanah; two sisters, Mary Lopez of Houston and Natalie Monsebais of Beeville; a brother, Joe Carrigo of Quanah; and seven grandchildren.

COKENDOLPHER, Arthur Hilton: 1925 – 2010

Arthur Hilton Cokendolpher, 84, formerly of Amarillo, Texas, died Sunday, April 25, 2010.

Celebration of life services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Faith Fellowship Church with the Rev. Gary Hoffman, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery in Boones Mill. Arrangements are by Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory.

Mr. Cokendolpher was born July 12, 1925, in Goodlett, Texas, to Dave and Georgia Lee Tanner Cokendolpher.

Mr. Cokendolpher and his wife, Helen, lived the majority of their lives in Amarillo, owning and operating Cokendolpher Tax Service until retiring to Virginia to live near their son.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Otha Brownlow, Oscar Cokendolpher, Tom Cokendolpher and Olen Cokendolpher; and a sister, Oma Hawthorne.

Arthur is survived by his loving wife, Helen Hyden Cokendolpher; a daughter, Linda Marlene Smith and husband Lowell D. Smith of Pennsylvania; a son, David Cokendolpher and wife Judy of Boones Mill; five grandchildren, Jason Smith of New York, Dana Garnier and husband Rick of Pennsylvania, Bradley Cokendolpher and wife Claire of North Carolina, Zachry Cokendolpher and wife Valarie of Callaway, and Joshua Cokendolpher and wife Kathrina of Boones Mill; seven great-grandchildren, Austin and Tyler Garnier, Olivia and Ethan Cokendolpher, Caleb and Andrew Cokendolpher, and Calum Fader.

The family suggests memorials be to Boones Mill Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 61, Boones Mill, VA 24065.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at Faith Fellowship Church.

MONTGOMERY, Don Alvin: 1936 – 2011

Don Alvin Montgomery passed away at home on Sunday, August 28, 2011. Don was born January 22, 1936, in Goodlett, TX to Cephas and Thelma (Guthrie) Montgomery. The family moved to Washington, where Don graduated from Renton High School in 1954.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1953 to 1955, then in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1961, and was a Veteran of the Korea War. He married Mable Doris Sikes in 1961, and raised two children, Steven and Michelle. He married Debra Larsen in 1984, and had two children, Chad and Dane. Don was the Radio Technician for the Washington State Department of Transportation until 1991, when he retired. He was an active member and past Commander of the Cashmere V.F.W Post #64, played Golden Age softball, was a 4-H leader, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Playing along with his children and grandchildren was also a favorite activity. Don always had a smile and a good story to share, and was willing to help out anyone in need.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Henry; and sister, Vela. He is survived by his longtime partner, Marlene Peterson of Cashmere; son, Steven James (Penny) of Monroe, WA; daughter, Michelle Renee of Cashmere; sons, Chad Taylor (Margo) of Genesee, ID; son, Dane Thomas of Cleveland, OK; grandchildren, Laken, Arieca and Tarrah Te Velde, Emerald and Clifton Montgomery and Tyler, Kaedan and Logan Montgomery; brothers, Kenneth “Dale” and Cephas “Butch”; and sisters, Hazel “Lou” and DeLois. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Cashmere Legion Hall, 401 Sunset Highway, on Monday, September 12, 2011, at 11:30 a.m. Service to follow at 1:00 p.m. with Graveside Military Honors. Lunch will be following at the Legion Hall. Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Cashmere V.F.W. Post #64 or to WSU Chelan County 4-H Equine Program. Jones & Jones~Betts Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.

LEONARD, Auther “AC” Clyde: 1925 – 2011

A.C. Leonard, 82, a former Dumas resident, passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2011. Graveside Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Dumas Cemetery. Rev. Jay McGaughy, pastor of Temple Baptist Church in Dumas will be officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors.

A.C. was born on August 15, 1928 in Goodlett, Texas to Sol and Ora Lenoard. He married Reba Boswell on September 3, 1948 in Dumas. She preceded him in death on July 4, 2004. A.C. was a hard worker. He was employed at the smelter plant in Dumas for 25 years. He moved to Plainview in 1972, and was a resident there for 38 years. He worked for Occidental & Zip Fertilizer until his retirement.

A.C. loved to ride motorcycles. One of his greatest joys was riding at the Canadian River with his son-in-laws and grandkids. He loved the outdoors, camping out and fishing with his family. They were his life, and he was a very dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He was a quiet man, but when he spoke, everyone listened. He was a Christian, and a member of Seth Ward Baptist Church in Plainview.

Survivors include: two daughters, Barbara Henry and husband Farrell of Dumas and Cathy Myers and husband David of Plainview; one sister, Valine Ballard of Dumas; and numerous other family members.

The family will be at 1707 Lewis in Dumas.

BUCKLEY, George Truitt: 1926 – 2011

Graveside services for Mr. George Truitt Buckley will be held on Sunday, July 24, 2011, at 3:00p.m. at Union Cemetery near Freestone.

Bro. Scott Matthews and Minister Ricky Misseldine will officiate.

Mr. Buckley passed away early Sunday morning, July 24, 2011 at his farm near Freestone.

He was born on October 20, 1926 in Goodlett, TX to Vessie Houston and Bridget Mae Buckley. Mr. Buckley served in the U. S. Marine Corps. He loved all his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Throughout his lifetime, he achieved many things including owning his own welding shop, racing horses, ranching and farming. You could usually find him on his tractor, digging a new pond, hatching a batch of chickens, fishing, gardening, or telling stories and playing jokes on his grandchildren. He dearly loved his “angel” & wife, Alice Buckley and was a devout believer in Jesus Christ. “Now he walks with his angel on one side and his Father on the other”. Mr. Buckley was a wonderful father, grandfather, husband and friend. He was always ready to help those in need or fix something that was broken and will be sorely missed.

He is survived by two sons, Danny Buckley & wife Cheryl of Baytown and Craig Buckley & wife LaDonna of Humble; seven daughters, Betty Rice & husband Jimmy of Alabama, Rose Johnson & husband Richard of Donie, Louise Rice & husband Neil of Alabama, Judy Niekamp & husband Don of Fairfield, Katherine Koepp & husband Dwight of Cross Roads, Martha Garduno & husband Johnny of Conroe, and Kimberly McAdams & husband Paul of Streetman; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister; other relatives and friends.

Mr. Buckley was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Alice Buckley.

HODGES, Anna C.: ? – 2000

Mrs. Anna L. Collins Hodges, 74, of Lamar died Sunday, July 30, 2000, at St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock.

A native of Goodlett, Texas, she was a daughter of the late King and Abby Roulston Collins, a Baptist, and was preceded in death by one son, Ronnie Hodges.

Survivors include her husband, T. R. Hodges; three sons, Terry Robert Hodges of Lamar, Kelly Hodges of Dover, and Randy Hodges of Fremont, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, at Humphrey Funeral Service Chapel in Russellville.

The body will be cremated.

HORN, Mike: 1923 – 2011

Mike Horn, 88, of Farmington, died on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011, in Farmington. He was born July 24, 1923, in Goodlett, Texas.

Services are pending with Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute St. in Farmington, 505-325-8688.

COLE, Jack: 1931 – 2009

Jack Junior Cole, 77, died June 5, 2009. He was born July 28, 1931 to Isaac and Nettie Sherman Cole. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Darlene Cole of Henderson, NE, and Jackie Ray and Mary Ann Cole of Houston; a sister, Nadine Austin of Hutchinson, KS; 4 grandchildren; and his nieces and nephews. Burial was at Goodlett Cemetery with arrangements by Johnson Funeral Home.

POOLE, Mildred Lucille: 1930 – 1998

Mildred Lucille Poole, 68, of Quanah, Texas, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, in a Hardeman County hospital.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. John Spangler, minister of Trinity Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Goodlett Cemetery under the direction of Price-Jackson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Poole was born Feb. 21, 1930, in Luther, Okla. She and Joe Poole were married June 12, 1947, in Guthrie, Okla. She had lived in Hardeman County since 1948. She was a homemaker and a retired supervisor for De Long’s Sportswear. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Sharon Carroll, Delores Smith and Janet Spangler, all of Quanah, and JoAnn McCoy of Caldwell, Texas; one brother, Charles Lowry of Guthrie, Okla.; four sisters, Nellie Bumgarner, and Mary Butler, both of Wellston, Okla., Alice Harrold of Elgin, Okla., and Ina Townsley of Oklahoma City; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
