Romana Beltran Rodriguez

Feb. 28, 1918 — Dec. 27, 2001

Services for Romana Beltran Rodriguez, 83, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

The Revs. Bill Zamora and Moses Herrera will officiate. Burial will be in Rest-Ever Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to the time of services Sunday at the funeral home.

A vigil service will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Rodriguez died Thursday in Sherwood Health Care.

She was born in Dallas and lived in Bryan since 1938. She was a homemaker and was a member of the First Mexican Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Adelaido Rodriguez.

Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Pete and Tina Rodriguez of Houston, and John and Mary Rodriguez, Joe and Rosa Rodriguez and Pablo and Petra Rodriguez, all of Bryan; a sister, Erlinda Escobedo of Phoenix; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Frank Alford

June 5, 1918 — Dec. 27, 2001

ROCKDALE — Services for Frank Alford, 83, of Marlin are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Chad Lagrone will officiate. Burial will be in the Gause Cemetery.

Mr. Alford died Thursday in the V.A. Hospital in Marlin.

He was born in Lee County and lived in Marlin 36 years. He formerly lived in Gause and was a farmer and rancher for 36 years. He also worked for Alcoa in Rockdale for 15 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the First Christian Church in Forest Grove.

He was preceded in death by four sons, Donald Franklin Alford, Jimmy Earl Alford, William Oliver Alford and Johnny Paul Alford; and a stepson, Bill Davlin.

Survivors include his wife, Connie Davlin Alford of Marlin; three sons, Thomas Eugene Alford of Livingston, David Norman Alford and Michael Allen Alford, both of Gause; a stepson, Tom Davlin of Kosse; three daughters, Jan Willard and Judy Woods, both of Gause, and Sharon Barnett of Waxahachie; a stepdaughter, Elizabeth Riley of Garland; two brothers, Weldon Alford and Bill Alford, both of Rockdale; a sister, June Fenn of Houston; 33 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.

Charles Joseph Babineaux

July 17, 1941 — Nov. 24, 2001

HOUSTON — Services for Charles Joseph Babineaux, 50, of Bryan were held Nov. 30 at Sacred Heart Cathedral Church in Houston.

Burial was in the Houston National Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Ross Mortuary, Inc. in Houston.

Mr. Babineaux died Nov. 24 in Methodist Hospital in Houston.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Coleman Babineaux of Bryan; a daughter, Wendy Babineaux Williams of Graffenwohr, Germany; three brothers, Nicholas Babineaux, Clinton Babineaux and Mark Babineaux, all of Rayne, La.; a granddaughter and numerous other relatives.

Bobby Darrell Carroll

Dec. 1, 1938 — Dec. 26, 2001

HEARNE — Services for Bobby Darrell Carroll, 63, of Gause are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Gause Baptist Church.

Jimmy Sanders will officiate. Burial will be in the Gause Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Funeral Home in Hearne.

Mr. Carroll died Wednesday at his home.

He was born in Conroe.

Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Carroll of Gause; a son, Paul Anthony Carroll of Austin; two daughters, Janet Marie Jansky of Round Rock and Debbie McCandless of Austin; two sisters, Belle Mikulec of Gause and Ann Lambert of Fort Worth; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Arlo Joshua Cameron-Hunter

Jan. 20, 1976 — Dec. 19, 2001

URBANA, Ill. — Services for Arlo Joshua Cameron-Hunter, 25, of Ogden, Ill., were held Dec. 22 at the Renner-Wikoff Chapel in Urbana.

The Rev. Phillip Frye officiated. Burial was in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Champaign, Ill.

Mr. Hunter died Dec. 19 in Champaign.

He was born in Urbana and attended Naperville North High School. He was a member of Bethel Church in Mahomet, Ill.

Survivors include his parents, Kenneth W. Cameron of Marble Falls, Texas, and Karla Hunter of Naperville, Ill.; two brothers, Jeremy Cameron of San Antonio and Ryan M. Ewers of Naperville, Texas; a sister, Rachel Cameron of San Antonio; and his grandparents, June Cameron of Bryan and Gilbert O. and Evelyn L. Leathers Hunter of Ogden, Ill.

Elizabeth Nelson

March 2, 1920 — Dec. 27, 2001

Graveside services For Elizabeth Nelson, 81, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Jan. 4 at Lodi Memorial Cemetery in Lodi, Calif.

The Rev. Bob Winn of the Upper Room Church in Buffalo will officiate.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mrs. Nelson died Thursday in Crestview Nursing Home.

She was born in California and lived in Bryan one year. She was a retired librarian.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Nelson.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Capt. (USN ret.) Barron C. and Kim Nelson of Herndon, Va., and Dr. Brian and Dr. Debbie Nelson of El Paso; a daughter and son-in-law, Shelly and Bob Winn of Buffalo; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Hoza Sadberry

Feb. 13, 1949 — Dec. 20, 2001

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Hoza Sadberry, 52, of Anchorage died Dec. 20 at his home.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Anchorage Funeral Home.

Mr. Sadberry was born in Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and lived in Anchorage since 1994. He graduated from Mascoutah Community High School in Mascoutah, Ill., and the University of Texas at Austin. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a Baptist.

Survivors include his parents, Hoza and Maudline Sadberry of Austin; four brothers, Rick Sadberry of Dallas, Reginald Sadberry of Houston, and Gregory Sadberry and Steven Sadberry, both of Austin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Institute for Cancer Research, 1759 “R” Street NW, Washington, D.C. 20009.

Gertrude Smith

March 24, 1911 — Dec. 27, 2001

NAVASOTA — Services for Gertrude Smith, 90, of Arlington and formerly of Navasota are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.

The Rev. Jim Stevens of the First Baptist Church of Navasota will officiate. Burial will be in the Montgomery Cemetery in Montgomery.

Mrs. Smith died Thursday in Arlington.

She was born in Dacus, Texas, and was a retired beautician. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Navasota and the Navasota Order of the Eastern Star No. 309.

Survivors include four nieces; two nephews; and numerous other relatives.

Altha Mae Coonrod

April 30, 1921 — Dec. 28, 2001

Graveside services for Altha Mae Coonrod, 80, of College Station will be held at Mount Olive Cemetery in Pittsburg, Kan., at a later date.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Funeral Chapel College Station.

Mrs. Coonrod died Friday at her home.

She was born in Minden Mines, Mo., and lived in College Station since 1969. She was a homemaker and was a Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, L. George Coonrod.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Loyd Jr. and Susan Coonrod of Alexandria, Va., and Harold Benjamin Coonrod and Mary Jo Wannamaker of St. Matthews, S.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Chris Stephenson of College Station; a brother, Floyd Hughes of Shingle Spring, Calif.; four grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley.

Robert A. Harris

Robert A. Harris, age 78, of Navasota died at 6 a.m., Friday, December 28, 2001 in Navasota. survived by: son, Robert Scott Harris of Katy; daughter, Lynn Harris Dodd and husband George of Navasota; brother, Earl Leslie Harris and his wife Jerry of Jackson, Mississippi; two grandchildren, Travis and Kim Harris of Montgomery and Kyle Harris of Houston; two great-grandchildren, Allison and Mark Harris of Montgomery; a niece, Lisa Bowman of San Antonio; a nephew, Rocky Harris of Bryan; and numerous other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Navasota. Dr. J.W.L. Adams of Bryan will officiate. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. in Forest Park Lawndale in Houston under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ross Poteet of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Nobles Funeral Chapel.

Mr. Harris was born on November 5, 1923 in Navasota. He was a retired rancher and funeral director, a lifelong resident of Navasota and a member of the First Baptist Church in Navasota.

Mr. Harris was President of the First F.F.A. Chapter of Navasota High School, Chairman of the Grimes County Chapter of the American Red Cross for many years, organized the Grey Ladies to do volunteer work at the Navasota Hospital, served as President of the Navasota Retail Merchants Association and served as Chairman of the Grimes County A.S.C.S. Committee. He served on the Navasota Independent School District Tax Equalization Board, the Grimes County Child Welfare Program Board of Directors, as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bryan Production Credit Association for a number of years, on the advisory Board of the Credit Banks of Texas in Austin, and as Quartermaster of Post 4006 VFW before, during and after the building of our Post Home in Navasota. Mr. Harris was an Honorary Lifetime Director of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, where he served in many different committees beginning in 1958 and continued for many years. He served in the Texas Funeral Directors Association, he belonged to Navasota Lodge 299 AF & AM Jerusalem Chapter No. 3, RAN Jerusalem Council No. 7, R. & S. Navasota Commandry No. 80 Knights Templar, 32 KCCH Scottish Rite Freemasonry, member of Arabia Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Houston and Sons of Hermann Lodge of Washington No. 178-2. Mr. Harris graduated from Armored Command School in Fort Knox, Kentucky and was a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army in Europe and Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II. Mr. Harris’ most proud accomplishment was graduating from Texas A&M University, Class of 1945.

William Donald Harris

May 12, 1907 — Dec. 28, 2001

Memorial services for William Donald Harris, 94, of College Station are set for 11 a.m. Monday at Covenant Presbyterian Church in College Station.

The Rev. Tom Hauser of Covenant Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be in the College Station City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Funeral Chapel College Station.

Mr. Harris died Friday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Des Moines, Iowa, and lived in College Station since 1935. He retired as a professor emeritus of the Chemical Engineering Department at Texas A&M University. He received his degree from Iowa State University and also spent two years at the University of Santa Clara, Cuba, and three years with the University of Guayaquil, Ecuador.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernice Latimer Harris, and a son, William Donald Harris Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Dobson Harris of College Station; a daughter, Diane Harris Paules of Rockdale, Md.; a daughter-in-law, Margie Fox of Friendswood, Texas; a brother, Harry Harris of Pacific Palisades, Calif.; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; a niece and a nephew.
