Richard H. Poss

GOLDTHWAITE, Texas — A memorial service for Richard H. Poss, 80, of Goldthwaite is set for 1:30 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Goldthwaite. The Rev. Doug Holtzclaw will officiate. Burial will be in the Goldthwaite Memorial Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home in Goldthwaite.
Mr. Poss died Monday.
He was born in McGregor, Texas. He attended Baylor University and Southwestern Baptist Theological seminary and served as a Baptist minister for 30 years, including seven as pastor of First Baptist Church in Bryan from 1961-68. He was employed by the state of Texas, serving on the Governor’s Committee on Aging. After retiring to Goldthwaite, he served as mayor for 10 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Jerry Rind Poss of Goldthwaite; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard Allen and Marianne Poss of Austin; a stepson, Michael Loudamy of Goldthwaite; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Tony Varisco of Bryan; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Joyce and Dale Hines of Ft. Worth and Othell Maldanodo of Encino, Calif.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Scott Lee ‘Doc’ Hess
April 2, 1958 — Dec. 9, 2001
A memorial service for Scott Lee “Doc” Hess, 43, of Bryan is set for 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Bryan. The Rev. Marlin Fenn will officiate.
Funeral services and interment will be Thursday in Denison, Texas.
Mr. Hess died Sunday.
He was a graduate of Northwest Missouri State and received his master’s degree in physical education from the University of Nebraska. He was an athletic trainer for Bryan High School.
Survivors include two sons, Ryan and Jalen of Denison; a daughter, , Katie, of Denison; his parents, Irvin and Ruth Ann Hess of Farnam; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Nancy and Roger Berry of Farnam, Texas, and Carol Hess of Columbus, Neb.

Clarence Edward Williams

Services for Clarence Edward Williams, 30, of Bryan are set for 2:30 p.m. Friday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Bryan. The Rev. C.W. Stewart will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.
Mr. Williams died Sunday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.
He was a lifetime resident of Bryan and attended Bryan High School. He was a laborer and member of Jerusalem Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Williams of Houston; two sons, Desmond Moore of Bryan and Juanzarian Williams of Houston; a daughter, Shaqwala Williams of Huntsville; four brothers, Benny James Williams Sr. of Bryan, Houston LeVon Williams of South Carolina, Ronald “Co-Co” Williams of Austin and Heishall Eugene Williams of Bryan; two sisters, Jeri Olivia “Precious” Davis and Rochelle Williams, both of Bryan; his parents, Bobby and Jerry Davis and Clarence Price, all of Bryan; and his grandmothers, Ida Lee Price and Joyce Davis, all of Bryan.

Services for Ora Lee Rooks, 90, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Friday at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Bryan. Rev. U.L. Green will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.
Mrs. Rooks died Sunday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.
She was born in Harvey, Texas. She lived in Bryan for the past 70 years. She was a custodian worker and member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Rooks.
Survivors include four daughters, Edna Rooks Banks, Irma Rooks Kearney and Nettie Rooks Payton, all of Bryan, and Bill Rooks Coleman of Houston; a sister, Willie B. Scott of Amarillo; 27 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.

James Etheridge Young

JEWETT — A memorial service for James Etheridge Young, 60, of Jewett is set for 6 p.m. Friday at the chapel of Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home in Jewett. The Rev. James Engle of First Baptist Church will officiate.
Mr. Young died Saturday in Fairfield, Texas.
He was born in Orlando, Fla. He was a technician in R.V. Manufacturing and served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Survivors include his wife, Jackie Young of Jewett; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Timothy Richard Young of Orlando, and Kenieth Etheridge and Jodi Young of Freeport, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Lee and Guadalupe Herrera of Buffalo; three sisters, Sandra McKnight of Bridge City, Brenda James of Naples, Fla., and Patty Salyers of Oklahoma City; three grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Juanita Martinez Garcia

Services for Juanita Martinez Garcia, 89, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Friday at St. Teresa Catholic Church. The Rev. Victor Robles will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at Hillier Funeral Home.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Garcia died Tuesday at Colton Inn in College Station.
She was born in Brady, Texas, and lived in Bryan for more than 50 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Guadalapanas and St. Teresa Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Margarito Garcia.
Survivors include three sons, Joe Garcia and Emilio Garcia, both of Bryan, and Carlos Garcia of Houston; three daughters and sons-in-law, Elvira and Margarito Ramirez of Bryan, Mary and Antonio Lucio of Georgia and Consuela and Benito Juarez of Bryan; 30 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Raymond ‘Pete’ Smith

BEDIAS — Services for Raymond “Pete” Smith, 83, of Bedias are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Baptist Church of Bedias and burial will be in the Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston at 2 p.m. The Rev. Jerald Brown of the Bedias Baptist Church will officiate.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Friday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Bedias.
Mr. Smith died Tuesday.
He was born in Wortham and was a member of the Bedias Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a sharpshooter for the U.S. Army 18th Cavalry Recon Squad during the invasion of Normandy and Northern France. He received the Victory Medal, Purple Heart, American Theater Medal and two Bronze Stars.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Smith.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Diana Smith and Lonnie and Steveann Smith, all of Carrollton, Texas; two daughters, Carolyn Cherry of Pasadena and Brenda Smith of Bedias; a brother and sister-in-law, M.G. Gerald and Nancy Smith of Houston; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Geraldine Alice Simms Floyd

PLANTERSVILLE — Services for Geraldine Alice Simms Floyd, 77, of Plantersville are set for 10:30 a.m. Friday at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home in Navasota. The Rev. Mike Williams of Plantersville Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Smith-Floyd Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. to service time Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Floyd died Wednesday at her home.
She was born in Port Arthur and lived in Plantersville for the past 21 years. She was a retired teacher who taught in Navasota and Conroe. She received her bachelor of science and master’s degrees from Sam Houston State Teachers College. She was a life member of Texas State Teachers Association, Texas/Grimes County Retired Teachers Association, Order of the Confederate Rose, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Grimes County Historical Commission and American Legion McClosky Post Ladies Auxillary. She was a member of Plantersville Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Floyd.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Stephen and Diana Floyd of Richmond; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sharon Lynn Morgan of McDade, Texas, and Rebecca Ann and Jackie Yates of Center, Texas; a brother and sister-in-law, William and Glenda Simms of Port Arthur; a sister, Beatrice Stiles of Nacogdoches; five grandchildren; and five-great-grandchildren.

Mildred Gorsen Lipscomb

She was born in League City. She was a homemaker and a Methodist.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Albert Lipscomb. Survivors include her son, David Louis Lipscomb of Angelton; her daughters, Gladys Weaver of Navasota and Carol Lipscomb of Houston; her brother-in-law, Travis Bracewell of Bedias; her sister-in-law, Gertrude Smith of Arlington; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

PASADENA — Services for Winnie Mae Culbreth, 92, of Pasadena and formerly of Madisonville are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Madisonville Funeral Home. Dr. J.W.L. Adams and Rev. Vaughn Tatum will officiate. Burial will be in the Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Culbreth died Tuesday in Webster.
Born in Madisonville, she was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Madisonville and the Madisonville Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 193.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ples Culbreth. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Winston and Gwen Culbreth of De Soto; her daughters and sons-in-law, Marie and Gilbert Roberts of Pasadena, Elaine and Bruce Dubose of Madisonville, Dolores and Gary Hill of Deer Park and Martha Newell of La Porte; her sisters, Willie Bullard and Ruth Moore, both of Madisonville; ten grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Marie N. Nolan

A private family service will be held at a later date for Marie N. Nolan, 74, of College Station. Arrangements are under the direction of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan.
Mrs. Nolan died Wednesday at her residence. Born in Tarrytown, N.Y., she had lived in College Station since 1997.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Nolan. Survivors include her sons, Tom Nolan Jr. of Houston and Brian Nolan of Avon, Colo.; her daughter, Paula Altieri of College Station; her brother, Ralph Ranieri of Boulder, Colo.; and seven grandchildren.
