Ruth Aline Gregg

SAN ANTONIO — Services for Ruth Aline Gregg, 81, of San Antonio and formerly of Bryan, are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Alexander United Methodist Church in Tabor. The Rev. David Green will officiate. Burial will be in the Bryan City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

Mrs. Gregg died Tuesday in San Antonio. She was born in Tabor. She lived in San Antonio since 1968. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Gregg was a member of the Alexander United Methodist Church in Tabor and St. Andrews United Methodist Church in San Antonio.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Gregg.

Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ed and Elaine Gregg of Bryan, Jim and Lennia Gregg of Phoenix, and Sid Gregg of Houston; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Sandra and James Kohler of Kyle, Paula Foerster of San Antonio, Dianne and Norman Lero of Bryan; a brother, Curtis Alexander of California; a sister, Fannie Maude Wright of San Antonio; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Alexander United Methodist Church, 5300 Alexander Cemetery Road, Bryan, Texas 77808.

Martha O. Fread

Nov. 15, 1910 — Jan. 23, 2002

NAVASOTA — Services for Martha O. Fread, 91, of Navasota are set for 10 a.m. Friday at Christ Our Light Catholic Church in Navasota. The Rev. Paul G. Felix will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home and from 6 to 9 p.m. at the church.

A parish vigil and rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Mrs. Fread died Wednesday at her home.

She was born in East Bernard. She lived in Navasota for 52 years. She retired from Holsom Foods in Navasota and was a member of Christ Our Light Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank George Fread.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Pauline Fread of Navasota; a daughter and son-in-law, Bernice and Wallace Bosse of Washington; a brother, Wilford “Bill” Srubar of Hungaford, Texas; four sisters, Bessie Cykala, Mary Dernak, both of El Campo, Texas, Matilda Stravinoha of Pearland, Texas, and Annie Meyer of Houston; five grandchildren; and nine-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Christ Our Light Catholic Church in Navasota or to Hospice Brazos Valley in Bryan.

Emma Jane Robinson-Nelson

May 1, 1926 — Jan. 20, 2002

HEARNE — Services for Emma Jane Robinson-Nelson, 75, of Hearne are set for 1 p.m. Friday at Old Elam Baptist Church in Hearne. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery. The Revs. F.C. Lewis III and E.W. Carter will officiate.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Funeral Home in Hearne.

Mrs. Nelson died Sunday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Robertson County.

She was preceded in death by her husband, L.J. Nelson.

Survivors include four daughters and a son-in-law, Jo Ann Edwards of Hearne, Shelia Williams of Hearne, Darlean Clay of Dallas, Ramona and Bobby Ray Johnson of Bryan; six sons and three daughters-in-law, Cecil Nelson, Kenneth and Rosie Nelson, Robert and Verna Nelson, Bobby Joe Nelson, all of Hearne, Donald Ray Nelson of Bryan, Leon and Clarissa Nelson of College Station; 25 grandchildren; one grandson-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Doris Elaine Braun

Aug. 16, 1950 — Jan. 23, 2002

BLACK JACK COMMUNITY — Services for Doris Elaine Braun, 51, of the Black Jack community and formerly of Rockdale, are set for 2 p.m. Friday at St. James Lutheran Church in New Wehdem, Texas. Burial will be in the St. James Lutheran Cemetery in New Wehdem.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. The Rev. Bob Myers will officiate.

Mrs. Braun died Wednesday in the Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale.

She was born in Brenham. She worked with preschool children at First Baptist Church in Rockdale, then McDonald’s in Rockdale. She then worked at Southwest Milam Water Supply. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in New Wehdem. She attended Brenham School System and Blinn College. She volunteered at Rockdale schools, Christmas Roundup, and was active in the Black Jack Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors include her husband, Calvin Braun of the Black Jack community; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Elan and Trish Braun, and Michael Bradford, all of College Station, Kase Braun of Rockdale; a brother and sister-in-law, Fritz and Diane Jaehne of Brenham; two sisters-in-law, Beverly Jaehne of Brenham, and Jewell Ellis of Austin.

Memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, 10362 New Wehdem Road, Brenham, Texas 77833.

Sara Cline Fincher

March 16, 1929 — Jan. 22, 2002

HOUSTON — Services for Sara Cline Fincher, 72, of Houston are set for 11 a.m. Friday at Foehner Funeral Home in Burton. Pastor Kay G. Johnson of First United Methodist Church in Fulshear will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Burton.

Mrs. Fincher died Tuesday in Houston.

She was born in Big Spring, Texas. She graduated from Brenham High School and attended Blinn College.

Survivors include her husband, Harold FIncher of Houston; a brother, John Victor Cline; two daughters, Carol Rodabaugh and Kay Fincher; a brother-in-law, Ray Fincher; and three grandchildren.

Kasper B. Skweres

Dec. 9, 1909 — Jan. 23, 2002

BRENHAM — Services for Kasper B. Skweres, 92, of Brenham are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brenham. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Brenham.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

Mr. Skweres died Wednesday.

He was born in Wesley. He was a retired foreman at Brentex Mills. He attended St. Mary’s Parochial School. Mr. Skweres was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Stegent Skweres.

Survivors include a daughter, Helen Mickie of Brenham; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Mary Derkowski of Brenham.

Margaret Virginia Porter

Jan. 24, 1916 — Jan. 23, 2002

A memorial service for Margaret Virginia Porter, 85, of Bryan is set for 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church of Bryan.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Hillier Funeral Home.

Mrs. Porter died Wednesday at her home.

She was born in Oklahoma. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Neighborly Sunday School Class, The Woman’s Club and Briarcrest Women’s Golf Association. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bryan.

Survivors include her husband, Holland Porter of Bryan; a son and daughter-in-law, Jarvis and Pam Porter of Bryan; three daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Joe Wilder of Bryan, Patsy and Bob Speed of Houston, Mary Sue Rabe and Royce Bordman of College Station; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Ella Free Miller

Aug. 31, 1926 — Jan. 23, 2002

Services for Dorothy Ella Free Miller, 75, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Bob Richers will officiate. Burial will be in the Bryan City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hillier Funeral Home and 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Mrs. Miller died Wednesday at home.

She was born in Brenham and was a receptionist for Brazos County Abstract. Mrs. Miller was a member of First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Adrian E. Miller.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Cliff G. and Marsha Miller of Grand Prairie, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Jacque and Hugh C. Barnett of Bryan; a brother and sister-in-law, Alvin Joseph and Ruth Free of Brenham; a sister, Pat Free of Bryan; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society or Hospice Brazos Valley.

August L. Kubacak

Aug. 10, 1929 — Jan. 22, 2002

ROCKDALE — A mass for August L. Kubacak, 72, of Rockdale is set for 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Taylor.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home in Rockdale, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m.

The Rev. Robert Herald of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale will officiate.

Mr. Kubacak died Tuesday at his home in Rockdale.

He was born in Cameron and was a resident of Rockdale since 1959. Mr. Kubacak was an atomizer operator at Alcoa in Rockdale, a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rockdale, SPJST, Rockdale V.F.W. Post #6525 and Knights of Columbus and a charter member of the Rockdale Order.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rita Jean Navair Kubacak.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene Kubacak of Rockdale; three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Cathy Kubacak of Lexington, Lawrence and Jeanne Kubacak of College Station and Kenneth and Lisa Kubacak of Beale Air Force Base, Calif.; a stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Sonya and Randy Mannes of Bedford, Texas; a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Bertha Kubacak of Angleton, Texas; a sister, Cecil Sparks of Muncy, Ind.; and 13 grandchildren.

Chelcy S. Cook

Nov. 30, 1914 — Jan. 20, 2002

CAMERON — Services for Chelcy S. Cook, 87, of Cameron are set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Lights Chapel Baptist Church in Cameron. Burial will be in the Cameron Rest Cemetery.

The Rev. O.J. Naylor will officiate.

Mrs. Cook died Sunday in the Central Texas Hospital in Cameron.

She was a lifetime resident of Cameron and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Cook.

Survivors include three brothers, Tom Melvin Simmons of Cameron, Haywood Simmons of Las Vegas, and Ralph Simmons of Los Angeles; and two sisters, Minnie Booze of Cameron and Mary Scott of Los Angeles.
