Topaz Harrell Hughes

Graveside services for Topaz Harrell Hughes, 88, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Bryan City Cemetery.
The Rev. J.W. Kornegay of the First Baptist Church in Bryan will officiate.
Visitation will be from 8 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.
Mrs. Hughes died Wednesday in San Jose, Calif.
She was born in Groom, Texas, and lived in Bryan since 1946. She volunteered with the Boy and Girl Scouts, P.T.A., and operated the “Clothes Closet” for 25 years. She served on the boards of many local agencies, including Planned Parenthood, MHMR and the Salvation Army. She was board president of the Girls Club and the State Child Welfare Board and served as secretary to the Twin City Mission Board.
Mrs. Hughes was a charter member of the Brazos Valley Rehab Center and was involved with the Brazos Valley Development Council.
She directed bingo for the residents of Sherwood while serving as president of volunteers and served as chairwoman of the Advisory Committee of the Area Agency on Aging and was appointed to the Citizens Advisory Council Committee at the state level. She was retired as executive director emeritus from the Brazos Valley Community Council after serving 30 years and was named Brazos County’s Outstanding Citizen of the Year in 1982. She was also a two-time recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship Award, a member of the First Baptist Church in Bryan and a member of the Luis Sunday school class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Frank Hughes.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Mary Hughes of Houston, John and Cynthia Hughes of Bryan and Donald Hughes and Linda Sleeper of Dallas; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Ed Nefflen of San Jose, Calif.; a brother and sister-in-law, Glynn D. and Sybil Harrell of Groom; a brother-in-law, Don Hughes of Amarillo; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Twin City Mission.
Edith Calbert
March 4, 1916 — Jan. 14, 2002
Services for Edith Calbert, 85, of Bryan are set for 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Hillier Funeral Home. The Rev. Kevin Randolph of Hillcrest Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Steep Hollow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Hillier Funeral Home.
Mrs. Calbert died Monday at St. Joseph Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Buena Vista, Ala. Mrs. Calbert lived in Bryan for nearly two years and was previously of St. Louis. She was a bookkeeper and school teacher and a member of Kappa Kappa Sigma and the Hillcrest Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Calbert of Bryan, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Enofre Yeppez
April 15, 1915 — Jan. 14, 2002
A family memorial service will be at a later date for Enofre Yeppez, 86, of Bryan.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.
Mr. Yeppez died Monday at his home.
He was born in San Marcos and was a farmer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Forntine Yeppez.
Survivors include his brother, Gabriel V. Yeppez Sr. of Houston; two sisters, Lupe Yeppez of Bryan and Dora Aguirre of Galveston; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Anthony Wayne Kirby
Aug. 11, 1961 — Jan. 13, 2002
BEAUMONT — Services for Anthony Wayne Kirby, 40, of Beaumont are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Cozart Funeral Chapel in Normangee. Brother Sam Manning of First United Pentecostal in Normangee will officiate. Burial will be in the Hopewell Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Kirby died Sunday in Beaumont.
He was born in Houston. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include a son, Anthony W. Kirby Jr. of Burkburnett; Texas, a daughter, Elizabeth Kirby of Livingston; five brothers, Robert Kirby of Humble, Danny Kirby of Normangee, Sammy Kirby of Cleveland, Jimmy Singletary of The Woodlands and Dale Singletary of Houston; six sisters, Julia Ann Currie, Virginia Ashbury and Deborah Wallin, all of Normangee, Cynthia Juarez of Madisonville, Jean Williams of Bryan and Lois Reed of Buna; and his mother, Viona Kirby of Normangee.
Velma Gilmore Anderson
Velma Gilmore Anderson, 74, was remembered by friends and family as an active participant in church, social and arts-related organizations.
“She was a lovely lady,” said friend and long-time neighbor Thyra Plass. “In her quiet way she added a lot to many different things.”
Anderson moved to Bryan in 1964 with her husband, Dr. Frank Anderson. The couple quickly began supporting efforts to establish a local performing arts scene.
Throughout the years Anderson served as member of the board of directors of the Opera and Performing Arts Society, as president of the OPAS Guild and a member of the board of directors of the Friends of the Sterling C. Evans Library at Texas A&M University.
Anderson also served as the president of Women of the Church at A&M Presbyterian Church and First Presbyterian Church in Bryan, where she was a deacon and elder.
“[Anderson] was interested in all sorts of things,” Plass said. “She was a backer of the arts but above all she was just a kind person with a lovely personality.”
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at College Station Cemetery. Dr. Philip McLarty of First Presbyterian Church in Bryan will officiate.
Survivors include her husband; her son and daughter-in-law, Frank Anderson III and Kathy Anderson of Houston; her daughter, Edith Anderson of College Station, a brother, Dr. John Frank Gilmore III of Beaumont; and three grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Bryan.
Dorothy V. Clore

CAMERON — Graveside service for Dorothy V. Clore, 84, of Cameron are set for 10 a.m. Friday at Oak Hill Cemetery.
The Rev. William L. Angel will officiate.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron.
Mrs. Clore died Tuesday in a Cameron Nursing Home.
She was born in the Hanover community near Cameron and was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Cameron.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Clore.
Survivors include two sons, Albert W. Clore of Cameron and Henry R. Clore of Pearland; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Shari Taylor White

PLANO — Graveside services for Shari Taylor White, 39, of Plano and formerly of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Friday at Evans Chapel Cemetery in Leon County.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan.
Mrs. White died Monday at a Dallas hospital.
A former resident of Bryan and graduate of Bryan High School, she lived in Plano the past three years. She was a mortgage processor at Power Mortgage.
Survivors include a son, Taylor Alexander White of Plano; a daughter, Natalie Brooke White of Plano; two brothers, Duncan and Robert A. Taylor, both of Bryan; three sisters, Georgia Ann Bishop and Peggy Dale Crane, both of Bryan, and Gari Lynn Strawn of College Station; her mother, Peggy Taylor of Bryan; two nieces and five nephews.
Trevor Allen Cook

BRENHAM — Services for Trevor Allen Cook, 18, of Brenham are set for 1 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Brenham.
Dr. Wesley Wellborn and the Rev. Fred Trevino will officiate. Burial will be in the Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.
Mr. Cook died Sunday in Houston.
He was born in Brenham and attended Brenham High School.
Survivors include his father, Robert A. Cook of Brenham; his mother and stepfather, Shawnee and Obren Djordjevic of Brenham; a sister, Kelsey Cook of Brenham; a stepsister, Nichole Djordjevic of Corsicana; a stepbrother, Brandon Djordjevic of Corsicana; his grandparents, Richard Nancy Coghlan of Brenham, Peggy and Red Grabarschick of Lyons and John Stafford and Shannon Trebus of Boaz, Wisc.; and many relatives and friends.

BREMOND — Services for Claudia Elmer Wiley, 100, of Bremond are set for 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Bremond. Burial will be in the White Rock Cemetery. Rev. Bill Agee of Waco will officiate.
Mrs. Wiley died Tuesday at Triumph Hospital in Channelview.
Born in Courtney, she was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church in Bremond.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Wiley.
Survivors include her son, Eldon “Buck” Wiley of Bremond; her two daughters and son-in-law, Katherine and Luke Sherrouse of Brenham and Alma Ruth Perkins of Pasadena; and numerous grandchildren and many other relatives.
Velma Gilmore Anderson

Graveside services for Velma Gilmore Anderson, 74, of Bryan are set for 1:30 p.m. Friday at College Station Cemetery. Dr. Philip W. McLarty of First Presbyterian Church will officiate.

Mrs. Anderson died Tuesday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center. Born in Dallas, she was a graduate of Hockaday School and received her bachelor of arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin. She moved to Bryan-College Station in 1964 and was an active participant in a number of local church, social and arts related organizations, including past president of Women of the Church of A&M Presbyterian Church and the Women of the Church of First Presbyterian Church of Bryan.
She was a deacon and elder at First Presbyterian Church of Bryan, a member of the board of directors of the Opera and Performing Arts Society, past president of the OPAS Guild and member of the board of directors of the Friends of Sterling C. Evans Library.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Frank G. Anderson Jr. of Bryan; her son and daughter-in-law, Frank G. and Kathy Hoekstra Anderson III of Houston; her daughter, Edith Anderson Wakefield of College Station; her brother, Dr. John Frank Gilmore II of Beaumont; and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Embra died Friday at her residence.
