CALDWELL — Graveside services for Charles Staley “Coach” Bijak, 54, of Sour Lake, Texas, were Jan. 9 at the family cemetery in Clarksville, Texas.
Mr. Bijak died Jan. 4 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
He was a defensive coordinator and track coach at Hardin-Jefferson High School.
Survivors include a son, John Bijak of Sour Lake; a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Bonnie Bijak of Houston; a sister and brother-in-law, Patti and Paul Stillson of Wichita Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Allen Henry Jernigan
July 7, 1917 — Jan. 13, 2002
Services for Allen Henry Jernigan, 84, of Del Rio and formerly of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the College Heights Assembly of God in Bryan.
The Revs. Tommy Thompson of College Heights Assembly of God and Tom Sutherland of Grace Community Church in Del Rio will officiate. Burial will be in Restever Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hillier Funeral Home and from 1 p.m. to the time of services Wednesday at the church.
Mr. Jernigan died Sunday at La Vida Serena Nursing Home.
He was born in Portales, N.M., and was a retired minister and carpenter. He served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II and was a member of College Heights Assembly of God.
Survivors include his wife, Iva Esther Jernigan of Del Rio; a son and daughter-in-law, Sheriff A. D’Wayne and Imelda Jernigan of Del Rio; a daughter and son-in-law, LaVerne Jernigan and James Sarter of College Station; four brothers, Wilbert Jernigan of Spokane, Wash., Edward Jernigan of Quartz Hills, Calif., Jack Jernigan of Roswell, N.M., and Paul Jernigan of Whitehouse, Texas; two sisters, Aline Jernigan Lee of Amarillo and Viola Jernigan Sustaita of Austin; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Lonnie Lee Bush

CENTERVILLE — Services for Lonnie Lee Bush, 92, of Lovelady, Texas, are set for 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Walters Funeral Home Chapel in Centerville.
The Rev. Larry Ashley of the First Baptist Church in Centerville will officiate. Burial will be in Creek Cemetery in Austonio.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 a.m. to the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Bush died Sunday in Crockett.
He was born in the Centerview area of eastern Leon County and lived most of his life in Grapeland, Lovelady and Centerville. He was a self-employed rancher and worked as a ranch foreman. He was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Bush.
Survivors include two sisters, Myrtie Langley of Italy, Texas, and Gracie Faye House of Centerville; Richard Nicholas and Patsy Vest, whom he raised; and three great-grandchildren.
Melba Elaine Dyer
May 24, 1917 — Jan. 13, 2002
BEDIAS — Services for Melba Elaine Dyer, 84, of Bedias are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Bedias Baptist Church.
The Revs. Jerald Brown and Clyde Copeland will officiate. Burial will be in Bedias Baptist Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Bedias.
Mrs. Dyer died Sunday.
She was born in Roans Prairie and was a lifelong member of the Bedias Baptist Church. She was also a member of the B.B.B.s and Dizzy Dozen and Happy Dots Domino clubs, the Bedias Civic & Women’s Club, Quilting Club and the Lions Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.K. “Bo” Dyer; and a son, Jimmie Dyer.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jerry and Joyce Dyer of Bedias and Wayne Dyer of Kingsville, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Jerry Hudson of Houston; a brother, James O. McIntyre of Bryan; a brother-in-law, J.C. Dyer of Navasota; two sisters-in-law, Myra Dyer of Bryan and Nina Dyer of Conroe; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pauline Gazda
April 18, 1925 — Jan. 13, 2002
SYLVANIA, Ohio — A Mass of Christian burial for Sister Pauline Gazda, 76, of Sylvania will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Queen of Peace Chapel in Sylvania.
A welcoming service will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Francis in Sylvania.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Thomas I. Wisniewski Funeral Home.
Sister Gazda died Sunday in Flower Hospital in Sylvania.
She was born in Minneapolis and entered the Sisters of St. Francis, Sylvania, Aug. 3, 1939. She took her final vows Aug. 18, 1945, and began a teaching career in Detroit, Mich., Riverview, Mich., and Sylvania. In 1988 she became the assistant coordinator of the Gold Medallion Program at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan and left in 1997 to return to the Rosary Care Center and Third Age Ministry.
Survivors include two sisters, Ernestine Maurek and Dorothy Birkenmeier, both of Rice Lake, Wis.; a brother, Joseph Gazda of Minneapolis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis, Sylvania or to the St. Joseph Foundation in Bryan.
Minnie Hermina Frances Petruy

CAMERON — Services for Minnie Hermina Frances Petruy, 104, of Georgetown and formerly of Buckholts are set for 1 p.m. Tuesday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.
The Rev. Henry Beseda will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Petruy died Sunday in a Georgetown nursing facility.
She was born in Burleson County and moved to Buckholts in 1919. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Buckholts Brethren Church and organized the first Christian Sisters at the church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Vince Petruy; a son, J.V. Petruy Jr.; and a daughter, Angie Peeler.
Survivors include a daughter, Marie Kelley of Georgetown; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
H. Louis Hecox

Services for H. Louis Hecox, 68, of College Station are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.
The Rev. Bruce Wood of Aldersgate United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the College Station Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 8:30 a.m. to the time of services Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Hecox died Saturday in Del Rio.
He was born in Baytown and lived in College Station since 1951. He was retired as president of Superior Contracting Services. He was a 1955 graduate of Texas A&M University and was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. He was a former senior vice president of R.B. Butler, Inc., past president of the Bryan Bass Club, College Station Little League, A&M Consolidated Tiger Booster Club and United Way. He served on the board of directors for Camp Creek Water Co. and the Brazos Valley Rehabilitation Center.
Survivors include his wife, Melba M. Hecox of College Station; two sons and daughters-in-law, H. Wesley and Pam Hecox of Port O’Connor, Texas, and Thomas L. and Penny Hecox of Katy; a daughter and son-in-law, Dena and Robert Joe “R.J.” Jackson of Ranger, Texas; his mother, Gladys Stone Hecox of Mesquite; and six grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity, the American Diabetes Association or St. Paul’s Food Pantry.

LARUE, Texas — Graveside services for Reagan F. Otts, 96, of Bryan and formerly of LaRue are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the LaRue Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home in Athens, Texas.
Mr. Otts died Sunday in a Bryan hospital.
He was born in Henderson County and lived in the Bryan-College Station area since 1987. He was a graduate of Lon Morris College in Jacksonville and was employed at Proctor & Gamble in Dallas for 42 years before his retirement. He was a member of the Wellborn Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Leona Otts; and a daughter, Sandra Otts Hall.
Survivors include six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Lasania Paulhill

Graveside services for Lasania Paulhill, 34, of Houston are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Midway Cemetery in Shiro.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.
Miss Paulhill died Sunday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.
She was born in Houston and was employed by a Texaco service station as assistant manager. She was a member of New Faith Baptist Church.
Survivors include her mother, Helen R. Paulhill of Houston; her stepmother, Mary Ann Pratt of College Station; a brother, Marcus Chenier of Houston; two sisters, Aisha Chenier and Robbie Paulhill, both of Houston; and two stepsisters, Shonda Chambers and Wanda Chambers, both of Bryan.
Elsa Leigh Gilmore Spurlin
April 26, 1940 — Jan. 12, 2002
Services for Elsa Leigh Gilmore Spurlin, 61, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home. The Rev. Tommy Garza will officiate. Burial will be in the Wixon Creek Cemetery.
Miss Spurlin died Saturday at her home.
She was born in McKenzle, Ala., and lived in Bryan the past two years. She was a retired certified public accountant and a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary in Mobile, Ala.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, John and Mari Jo Blackmon of Crosby, Texas, James and Marsha Blackmon of San Antonio and Dennis and Gail Blackmon of Greenville, Ala.; a daughter, Delilah “Dee” Blackmon of Bryan; three brothers, Henry, Malvin and Carl Gilmore, all of Alabama; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary and Massey Mosley, Myrtle Hensley, Jeanette Bennett and Sue Parker, all of Alabama; her foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Wooldridge; and eight grandchildren.
