Dr. Gamewell Alexander Lemmon

Aug. 26, 1922 — Jan. 1, 2002

HILTON HEAD, S.C. — Services for Dr. Gamewell Alexander Lemmon, 79, of Hilton Head, S.C. are scheduled for a later date.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station.

Dr. Lemmon died Tuesday at College Station Medical Center.

Dr. Lemmon was born in Sumter, S.C., and was a retired physician and surgeon, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and a member of Vestavia Country Club and Sea Pines Country Club. Dr. Lemmon was a marshal at the MCI Heritage Tournament and was a volunteer and medical adviser to Hospice of the Low Country. He served in the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Lemmon.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Susan and Edward Portis of College Station and Ann Lemmon of Atlanta; and three granddaughters.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of the Low Country, 20 Palmetto Parkway, #104, Hilton Head, S.C. 29926.

Joe Britton

Nov. 6, 1913 — Dec. 28, 2001

Services for Joe Britton, 88, of College Station are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at College Hills Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. L.B. Groce will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Hearne.

Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. Friday at Peoples Mortuary in Bryan.

Mr. Britton died Thursday at College Station Medical Center.

He was born in Fort Bend County and lived in College Station for 38 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Mae Britton.

Survivors include three sons, Norris Britton of College Station and James Britton and J.D. Britton, both of Houston; seven daughters, Eva M. Davis and Tommie D. Victor, both of Houston, Henrietta Harris, Helen Wells and Delores Britton, all of College Station, and Rosetta Davis and Joetta Murphy, both of Hearne; 24 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Rosa Annis Rosier Batten

Sept. 28, 1915 — Jan. 1, 2002

Services for Rosa Annis Rosier Batten, 86, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan. The Revs. Bruce Wood and Glen Conner will officiate. Burial will be in the Wixon Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and 8:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Batten died Tuesday at Sherwood Health Care Center.

She was born in Madison County and was a lifelong resident of Bryan. She retired from the Bryan Independent School District Food Service and was a homemaker. She was a member of Cottonwood Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W.L. “Punk” Batten.

Survivors include five sons and daughters-in-law, Billy Joe and Patricia Batten of Sugar Land, L.G. “Dicky” and Carolyn Batten of Huntsville, George and Kay Batten of Kurten, Henry and Jamie Batten of Huntsville and James Lee and Sandy Batten of Tabor; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Mary Nell South of DeCatur, Texas, Florence and Doug Richards of Bryan, Deborah and John C. Hicks of Franklin and Pat Batten of Bryan; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray Samuel and Stazie Rosier of Dalhart, Texas, Sigal and Ruby Rosier of Bryan and Glenn and Maryann Rosier of Woodville, Texas; two sisters, Amy Kurten of Kurten and Mackie Bell Mitchell of Bryan; two sisters-in-law, Hazel and Lena Rosier, both of Bryan; 29 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Cottonwood Baptist Church.

Jenettia Evelyn Jackson

Nov. 21, 1911 — Jan. 1, 2002

Services for Jenettia Evelyn Jackson, 90, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at McNabb Funeral Home Chapel in Pocahontas, Ark. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery in Pocahontas.

Arrangements are under the direction of J.M. Day Funeral Home in Madisonville.

Mrs. Jackson died Tuesday.

Mrs. Jackson was born in Pocahontas. She was a retired retailer and member of the Northside Free Will Baptist Church in Pocahontas. She spent most of her life in Arkansas and moved to Bryan in 1989, where she attended Central Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rector Jackson.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Harold Hogard of Bryan; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Jackie Jackson of Flint, Mo., and Don and Mary Alice Jackson of Madisonville; two sisters-in-law, Lois Jackson and Dela Williams, both of Pocahontas; ten grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Thomas A. McCleney

Nov. 22, 1914 — Jan. 1, 2002

ANGLETON, Texas — Services for Thomas A. McCleney, 87, of Angleton, Texas, are set for 7 p.m. Thursday at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton. The Rev. Billy Conners will officiate. Burial will be in the Lake Grove Cemetery in Iola at 2 p.m. Friday.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. McCleney died Tuesday.

Mr. McCleney was born in Iola. He was a resident of Angleton since 1941 and was retired from Dow.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Chris McCleney of Angleton; a son and daughter-in-law, Dickie and Sandra McCleney of Killeen; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Albert Parten and Kathy and R.L. Howard, all of Angleton; two sisters, Doris Ginglewood of Navasota and Jewel Garrett of Bryan; a brother-in-law, Roland Murchison of Iola; a sister-in-law, Mary McCleney of Bryan; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lillie Emshoff Franke

May 28, 1908 — Jan. 2, 2002

Services for Lillie Emshoff Franke, 93, of College Station and formerly of Bellville are set for 11 a.m. Friday at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Welcome, Texas. The Rev. Milroy Gregor will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday afternoon at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Mrs. Franke died Wednesday at Colton Inn Health Center in College Station.

She was born in Austin County. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter H. Franke.

Survivors include a daughter, Lou Jean Dockery of Bryan; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Jimmie Marie Batson

Feb. 18, 1919 — Jan. 2, 2002

NORMANGEE — Graveside services for Jimmie Marie Batson, 82, of Normangee are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Ten Mile Cemetery. The Rev. Bill Lanakin will officiate.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at J.M. Day Funeral Home in Madisonville.

Mrs. Batson died Wednesday in Normangee.

She was born in Grimes County.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Travis Vernon Batson Sr.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Vernon and Marsha Batson of Normangee; a daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Ronald Bandsuch of Austin; two sisters, Mavis Bosworth and Frances York, both of Houston; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Faye Pack

Sept. 28, 1924 — Jan. 2, 2002

WHEELOCK — Services for Faye Pack, 77, of Wheelock are set for 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Wheelock.

The Revs. Dale Wells and Ira A. Irvin will officiate. Burial will be in the Wheelock Cemetery.

Mrs. Pack died Wednesday in Bryan.

She was born in Robertson County. She was a resident of Wheelock for most of her life and was a member of First Baptist Church in Wheelock. She attended Franklin School and McKenzie Business College and was retired from Southwestern Bell, where she was employed as a bookkeeper.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warden Wallace Pack.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Luther Price of Bryan; a son and daughter-in-law, David R. and Jean Bolton of Austin; a son-in-law, Wallace Hickson of Caldwell; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Winnie Cobb of Wheelock, Artie Nedbalek of Wheelock, Louise Bolton of Franklin and Joyce and W.C. Scasta of Bryan; a brother, David Pruett of Louisiana; and five grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Wheelock or the Robertson County Library, c/o P.O. Box 1027, Franklin, 77856.

Edward Charles Foley

Nov. 6, 1963 — Dec. 29, 2001

HOUSTON — Services for Edward Charles Foley, 38, of Houston are set for 11 a.m. Friday at G.W. Tabernacle.

Bishop J.C. Ebbs Jr. of United Full Gospel Baptist Church in Bryan will officiate. Burial will be in the Cottonwood Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.

Mr. Foley died Saturday in Houston.

He was born in Bryan and lived in Houston for the past 19 years. He attended Bryan High School and was the manager of a men’s clothing store in Houston.

Survivors include his parents, Jim Jr. and Patsy W. Foley of Bryan; five brothers, Robert Foley, Nathan Foley, Eddie Wallace and Clifton Foley, all of Bryan, and Howard Hines of Lovelady; five sisters and a brother-in-law, Ester and Milton Walker, and Chandrell, Sheila, Cheryl, and Gwendolyn Foley, all of Bryan.

Mary B. Green

July 12, 1934 — Jan. 1, 2002

Services for Mary B. “Baby Sister” Green, 67, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Bryan.

Bishop Milton Gooden Sr. of New Testament Pentecostal Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Walker Settlement Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Jones-Washington Mortuary. A wake service will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the church on 1215 Lowery St.

Mrs. Green died Tuesday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

A longtime resident of Brazos County, she attended E.A. Kemp High School and was a member of New Testament Pentecostal Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oritz “Big Man” Green Sr.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Elder Oritz Jr. and Minister Annie Green of Bryan, Deacon Jesse D. and Calandra Kaye Green of Desoto and Ronald D. and LaShonda Green of Dallas; four daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Y. and R.Q. Neal of Bryan, Beverly Y. Green of Aurora, Texas, and evangelist Glenda R. Green and LaShonda R. Green of Dallas; three brothers, Phillip Beverly Jr., Alvin Beverly and James Beverly, all of San Antonio; four sisters, Robbie Thornton, Willie Joyce Mitchell and Doris Scott, all of Dallas, and Frankie Dunmon of San Antonio; and eight grandchildren.
