Addie Mae Lawrence
Addie Mae Lawrence passed away Monday, June 14, 2010 at the age of 76 years. Addie was born July 22, 1933 in Huxford, Alabama to the late Mulford D. and Mattie (Adams) Colbert.
Addie was a member of Townwood Baptist Church. She was an active participant of the Astro Nets and the Poarch Band of Creek Indians.
Addie is preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Bob Lawrence, a grandson, Brandon Tate Lawrence, and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Lawrence. She is survived by a loving family; her children, Hugh Bob Lawrence, Jr., of Pasadena, Terry Dwayne Lawrence, of Clear Lake City, Robin Lynn Brewton and her husband, Dana, of Deer Park, Sheri Ann Burton, of Baytown, and Mattie Sue Lawrence, of Houston; ten grandchildren, Matthew Lawrence and his wife, Rocio, of Houston, Jaime Lawrence, of Pasadena, Noel Lawrence, of Pasadena, Ashton Lawrence, of Houston, Kristen Lawrence, of Houston, Robert Crawford and his wife, Whitney, of Houston, Richard Crawford, of Deer Park, Courtney Johnson and her husband, John, of Cypress, Brooks Grado and his wife, Kate, of Charleston, SC, and Ciara Grado, of Oklahoma City, OK; 14 great-grandchildren; niece, Connie Thomas, of Freeport; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
Mom, your journey is complete from earthly woes, for your spiritual journey has begun. Travel well with Dad and with Christ.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, June 21, 2010, at Niday Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at Niday Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Houston National Cemetery. Daniel Jacob Weber
Daniel J. Weber passed away Friday June 11, 2010 after a six year struggle with Alzheimer’s. Dan was married to Elizabeth T “Betty” Weber for 63 years, having wed in Houston on July 5, 1947. While Dan was a native Houstonian and Betty immigrated to Texas from Oberlin, Louisiana, they have made their home in The Woodlands for the last two years.
Dan and Betty had eight children, but lost four of them to Cystic Fibrosis. The remaining four are Marian Schultea, Chris Weber, Susan Lott and Barbara Furber. All still grieve the loss of Daniel Jacob “Danny Boy” Weber ( 5/8/1948 – 4/1950 ), Robert Eugene Weber (11/13/1952 – 10/14/1984), Daniel Gerard Weber (11/3/1958 – 3/28/1960) and Theresa Ann Weber (9/29/1956 – 12/22/1962).
Marian resides in Bryan with her husband Tom Schultea. They have two children, Theresa Hall and Danny Schultea, who have supplied them with four grandchildren. Theresa is married to Doug Hall and they live in Austin, Texas with their children, Luke (5) and Kate (3). Danny has two children, Mia Schultea (12) and Natalie Schultea (9) and he resides with his wife Dana in College Station, Texas.
Chris lives in Houston along with his wife Lisa and their three children: Lauren (17), Gabriel (14) and Michael (12).
Susan and her husband Doug Lott live in Friendswood with their daughters Chelsea (17) and Hannah (12).
Barbara is married to Mark Furber of Cochrane, Alberta, Canada. They live in The Woodlands, Texas with their four daughters Samantha (10), Dallas (9), Evan (7) and Dawson (5).
Dan’s parents are the late Joseph D and Bertha E Weber. Being the oldest, Dan was affectionately known by his five siblings as “Big Un”, reflecting the respect that so many had for him both inside and outside the family. The other children, in birth order are Joseph T Weber, Harry W Weber, Bert L Weber, Thelma Ellison (“Sis”) and Robert W “Bob” Weber. Dan’s passing now leaves Thelma and Bob to carry the family torch.
Dan graduated from St Thomas High School in 1943 and was immediately drafted into the US Navy. He proudly served his country in the Pacific in WWII as a motor machinist on subMarines and submarine rescue boats. He was aboard the submarine rescue boat USS McCaw when it went down and was among the survivors. The ship’s Captain and four others lost their lives.
Dan served tirelessly in three Catholic churches: Mt Carmel, St Phillip Neri and St Helen and was a member of The Knights of Columbus. He also proudly served as a reserve deputy in the Harris county sheriff’s department.
Over his long career Dan distinguished himself working with the W.D. Haden Company and Lone Star Industries. Upon retirement, he and Betty built Weberville Storage Company and R&C Tractor Rental Company into thriving businesses. Through these various endeavors, Dan made life-long friendships that provided a deep satisfaction in his work.
Visitation will be held from 5 pm to 7pm, with a Memorial being offered at 7pm, Monday, June 14th, at Niday Funeral Home. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10am Tuesday, June 15th, at St. Helen Catholic Church, 2209 Old Alvin Rd, Pearland, TX 77581. Rite of committal will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family recommends that contributions be made in Dan’s name to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Alzheimer’s Association or a worthy charity of the donor’s choice.
Anthony “Tony” Joseph L’Abbate
Anthony “Tony” Joseph L’Abbate, 56, of Dickinson, Texas passed away June 8, 2010, at St. John’s Hospital in Nassau Bay, Texas. He was born on May 9, 1954 in Gainesville, Florida to Joseph Paul and Josephine Opacity L’Abbate. He graduated from the University of Florida in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts in Landscape Architecture. He married his devoted wife, Terri, on July 15, 2000.
Tony was a musician at heart, and has played in rock bands since High School. He also loved nature with a passion, and had a deep appreciation and respect for all that is green and beautiful. He moved to Houston, Texas in 1997 to jump start his second career as a Senior Designer with Lynn’s Landscaping of League City, Texas, where he was privileged to work with his closet friend, Greg Gripon, and Greg’s father, Lynn Gripon, who was like a father to Tony. Lynn Gripon was instrumental in guiding Tony into his wonderful relationship and marriage to Terri, as demonstrated in the pointed man-to-man talk, “When are you going to marry that girl?!”
Tony was gifted in the training and guidance of his adopted dogs, especially Katie and Lucy, who brought great love and companionship, to him and all who encountered them.
Tony is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Paul L’Abbate. He is survived by his wife, Terri, his mother, Josephine L’Abbate of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, his sister, Joanne L’Abbate of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and his sister, Cynthia L’Abbate Darby, her husband and his brother-in-law, Kevin Darby, his nephew John Darby and his niece, Kelly Darby, all of Athens, Georgia. Tony is also survived by his loving in-laws, Verner Hamilton Jones and Dorothy G. Jones, of Miami, Florida and his sisters-in-law, Dorothy Quallo and Sandra Shields.
The family will receive friends from 6:00pm-8:00pm Friday, June 11th, and the service celebrating Tony’s life will be at 11:00am Saturday, June 12th, all held at Niday Funeral Home. The family will be hosting a reception at Tony and Terri’s home in Dickinson immediately after the Saturday service.
Rex Nolan Dyson
“God wouldn’t bring you to it if He couldn’t pull you through it.”
Rex Nolan Dyson, of Pearland, TX, passed from this world to live eternally in Glory on June 6, 2010. He was born on October 5, 1971 in Wichita Falls, TX.
A faithful follower of Christ, Rex believed with all his heart “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). He leaves many behind who will hold him in their hearts.
Toni Lin Dyson, his devoted wife of 10 years, and sons Dakota, Zackary, and Hunter will carry on his legacy of love and faith.
Rex is preceded in death by his grandparents Bruno and Gisela Hinke and Harvel Dyson; grandfather Harold Bolyard; grandmother Ola Mae James, and Uncle Willard Bolyard.
He is survived by grandmother Alice Rice and her husband Coy; parents Terry and Carolyn James, and Stanley and Anita Dyson; brothers Russell Dyson and Derek James; parents-in-law Les and Alma Fenter, and Anthony and Brenda Redd; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and so very many friends who will miss him deeply.
Rex was an active church member, encouraging friend, and devoted employee. With a Master’s Degree in Administration of Justice and Security, he worked as a Juvenile Probation Officer with Harris County, providing hope and guidance to countless teens and their parents.
He loved his country and served 7 years of active duty in the United States Air Force. Rex graduated with the Class of ‘89 from C. E. King High School.
An avid sports fan, Rex enjoyed both real ball games as well as fantasy leagues.
Rex is remembered as a gentle, strong man who loved truly and deeply.

The funeral service honoring his life will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, June 11, 2010, at Bay Area Christian Church, 14550 Hwy. 3, in Webster. Graveside services and interment will follow at 1:30 PM, at South Park Cemetery, in Pearland.
Jeannette Faye Wick Thorson
Jeannette Faye (Wick) Thorson, 70, of Clear Lake City, went to be with her Lord and Savior June 5, 2010 at her home, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on May 12, 1940 in Lucien, Oklahoma, and was a member of Sagemont Church in Houston.
Jan is preceded in death by her husband Richard Allen Thorson and her parents Earl Wick, Sr. and Minnie Mae Griffith Cook.
She is survived by her brother Earl Wick, Jr.; sister Wynona Ellison; four children: Marvin Earl Tate, Jr., Debra Dianne Seidel, Sandra Dee Allyn, and David Lee Tate, Sr. and wife Connie; five grandchildren: Steven Pringle, Joshua Tate, Ashley Allyn, Jeremy Wentzel, and David Tate, Jr.; three great-grandchildren: Alyssa Pringle, Ashley Tate, and Alexander Kempton.
The family will receive friends from 4:00pm to 6:00pm Sunday, June 13th, at Niday Funeral Home. The service celebrating Jan’s life will be held at 10:00am Monday, June 14th, in the chapel of Niday Funeral Home, with Dr. Denny Autrey officiating. A private interment will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery.

Rev. Joe C. Cantu
On June 5, 1930, Joe Cadena Cantu was born in San Antonio, TX. The proud son of Ramon and Luz Cantu, Bro. Cantu was the youngest of seven siblings; Lydia Riojas, Samuel Cantu, Maggie Gonzalez, Daniel Cantu, and David Cantu whom all precede him in death, and a surviving sister, Raquel De Leon. On July 25, 1953 he married his “ojos borados”, Magdalena Menchaca. They have four children; Ruth Cantu, Dahlia Torres and her husband, R. Max Torres (preceding in death), Leroy Cantu (preceding in death), and Yvonne Espinosa and husband, Elias Espinosa. He also has eight grandchildren; R. Michael Torres, C. Sean Torres and his wife, Nickii, Joel M. Torres, Erik B. Torres, Valerie Espinosa, Veronica Espinosa, Christina Espinosa, and Elias Espinosa.
Bro. Cantu and his family were migrant sharecroppers. His father got him his first job working at a local corner store, where he learned to count in Chinese. Bro. Cantu accepted the Lord as his savior in April of 1945 at the age of 14 in Templo Sion. He worked with different departments of the church, such as Vice-President and President of Embajadores de Cristo and Assistant Superintendent of Sunday school. He attended L.A.B.I. in Ysleta, Texas in October of 1948. There, he began to preach in missions and churches in the area. Upon graduation of L.A.B.I. in 1951, he preached two campanas; one in Laredo, Texas – Pastor S. M. Menchaca, and another in Kingsville, Texas – Pastor Josue Garza. From June 5, 1951 to Dec. 31, 1953, Bro. Cantu pastored Templo Gethsemani, then the only Hispanic church in Ft. Worth, Texas. Following, he pastored in Lubbock, Texas from January of 1954 to August of 1956. From Lubbock, he headed to Houston for what we now call his home church, El Tabernaculo Assembly of God, which was located at 4306 Chapman St. In March of 1977, Bro. Cantu led his thriving congregation to a new home, now located at 10020 Bauman Rd. He pastored his congregation of “Tab” for 54 years.
Bro. Cantu received his Bachelor of Theology from Latin American Theological Seminary (La Puente, California) on May 28, 1983. He received his Master of Sacred Theology from Miami Theological Seminary on May 20, 1989. Bro. Cantu served in varies areas held several positions in the Houston Section of the Gulf Latin American District, The General Council of the Assemblies of God, and The International Broadcasting Network.
As of 10:06 p.m. on June 2, 2010, another soldier has gone home.
A wake service will be held at 6:30 PM Sunday, June 6, 2010, at El Tabernaculo Assembly of God, 10020 Bauman Rd. in Houston. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, June 7, 2010, at El Tabernaculo Assembly of God. Interment will follow at Brookside Memorial Park.
Fannie Louise Enloe Brown
Fannie Louise Enloe Brown was born September 12, 1926 and passed away June 2, 2010. Fannie was born in Los An- geles, California and later lived in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Fannie graduated from the high school division of Southwest- ern Assemblies of God University. She was also a graduate of the American School of Banking. Fannie worked for Schlum- berger and Brown and Root. While at Brown and Root, Fannie earned the award of top Expeditor of the year. She also received the outstanding alumnus award at Southwestern University. Fannie is preceded in death by her husband Charlie and their son John. She is survived by her sons James Eugene and wife Donna and their children Robert and Amanda, Charlie Lee and wife Karen and their children Sarah and her husband Alex, and Rachael, and Don and wife Susan and their son Jason. She is also survived by brothers, Floyd Enloe, CW Yates and their families, sister’s Georgia Enloe Clauder, Elsie Dewitt and their families and by many friends.
Fannie was a member of Christian Temple Church. She was known for having a big heart for missions, helping others, and a great love of Southwestern A/G University. She helped many stu- dents achieve their dreams of attending Southwestern by supporting them financially through scholarships.
Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5:00pm-8:00pm at Niday Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be Monday at 10:00am at Christian Temple As- sembly of God, 9701 Almeda Genoa, Houston. Interment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale.

John W. Beavers, Jr.
John W. Beavers, Jr. (J.W ., Rev., Pastor, Captain, Mr. John) was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 19, 1928 to John Sr. and Ronette Beavers.
John was loved by his parents, siblings, wife, children, other family members, parishioners, customers and friends.
John was educated in the Chicago public school system. He served in the United States Army during WWII, after being honorably discharged from service , he pursued his Theological calling and attended Garrett Theological Seminary.
John became the youngest Presiding Elder in the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church . He was a radio prayer line minister during the sixties. John was a CME church historian, many of his findings were documented in the Christian Index a CME Church publication. He served diligently for over fifty(50) years in the CME church.
John was active in the Civil Rights Movement during the sixties, were he encouraged and urged people to register to vote . He became director of one of the first Head Start Programs in the South, these were some of his proudest moments.
John attended Cleveland State University, and held many positions in his lifetime. He served as president of the United Paper Workers Union of America (United Steelworkers Union) .
John was appointed as Presiding Elder of the NE Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia District where he served until his retirement.
In his later years he was a member of the staff of Family Affairs Dining this became his joy interacting with his customers and vendors .
John was preceded in death by his parents John Sr. and Ronette Beavers, his brothers Earnest (Edwina), Ronald (Sandra), his first wife Ulean.
He leaves to cherish his memories , his loving wife Blanche; his children, Debrah (Jarvie) Holman, Jeffery (Maggie) Beavers, Wilma (Danny) Martin, Chuck Beavers, Wendy (Sed) Freeman, his grandchildren; Brother Robert (Kathy) Beavers, Sisters Grace and Gwen Beavers; Sisters in Laws Ruth (Marty) Cobb, Grace (David) McNeill and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends Saturday, June 5th, from 11:00am – 12:00pm at Niday Funeral Home, with the Funeral Service starting at 12:00pm.
Capt. Lawrence Thomas Nixon
Capt. Lawrence Thomas Nixon, 59, of League City, passed from this life into the next Thursday, May 27, 2010.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his father, Walter C. Nixon, and mother, Dorothy Nixon, and a nephew, Ricky Hilzendager.
He is survived by his daughter, Nicole L. Nixon & her fiancé, Miguel Jorge, of League City; two sons, Shane Nixon and his wife, Rachel, and Devon Nixon and his wife, Elvia, all of Pearland; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Walter C. “Chris” Nixon, and Steven E. Nixon and his wife, Priscella; sister, Pamela A. Nixon; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, as well as a host of dear friends.
Capt. Nixon was a parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church in League City and was a graduate of Mt. Carmel High School in Houston. He was a Merchant Marine Officer and Captain for Amoco Transportation.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 3:30 PM Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1612 East Walker St., in League City, with Msgr. Eugene Cargill celebrating. Rite of Committal will follow at Fairview Cemetery, in League City.
The family will receive friends before the Mass from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM, at the Church.
Francis Thien “Lee” Dang
Francis Thien “Lee” Dang, a resident of the South Belt Area of Houston, passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2010 in Pasadena at the age of 29 years. Lee was born in Vietnam, February 10, 1981 to Thanh Dang and An T. Nguyen.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 28, 2010, from 12:00 Noon to 8:00 PM, at Niday Funeral Home. A Mass of Resurrection will be Celebrated at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 29, 2010, at Vietnamese Martyrs Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will follow at Forest Park East Cemtery, in Webster.
Lasca Elaine McArthur Johnson
Lasca Elaine McArthur Johnson, a resident of Houston, passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at the age of 93 years. Mrs. Johnson was born May 6, 1917 in Hineston, Louisiana to the late James and Iola Barton McArthur.
A former resident of Alexandria, Louisiana, Mrs. Johnson resided in the South Belt Area for the past ten years and was a member of Sagemont Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Roy Johnson, and her sister, Lorena M. Lafayette. Mrs. Johnson is survived by a loving family; four children, Kaye J. Benson and her husband, Richard B., of Houston, Kearnie K. Johnson and his wife, Geraldine, of Boyce, Louisiana, Koy M. Johnson and his wife, Sherry, of Alexandria, Louisiana, and Wm. Kent Johnson and his wife, Elizabeth, of Houston; twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
