July 14, 1918 — March 13, 2002

ROCKDALE — Graveside services for Mary Tate, 83, of Rockdale are set for 1 p.m. Monday at Moore Memorial Garden in Arlington.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Mrs. Tate died Wednesday at Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale.

She was born in Flat Creek, Texas, and lived in Rockdale since 1976. She was a hairdresser.

Survivors include her husband, J.T. Tate of Rockdale; a son, James T. Tate of Hockessin, Del.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Louise and Roy Yates of Arlington, and Johnnie M. and Danny Dows of Crowley, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.

Dolores Martha Kissel

Jan. 10, 1925 — March 16, 2002

BRENHAM — Services for Dolores Martha Kissel, 77, of Brenham are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Salem Lutheran Church in Salem, Texas.

The Rev. Bill Derrick will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

Ms. Kissel died Saturday in Trinity Medical Center.

She was born in New Ulm and was a graduate of La Grange High School. She was retired as administrator of the Sweetbriar Nursing Home. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, the Brenham Bowling Association and the Sons of Hermann.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Glenda Sue and Ronnie Neutzler of Brenham; and a son, Grady E. Kissel of Brenham.

Memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church of Salem.

Courtnie Nicole Roebuck

Sept. 5, 1993 — March 14, 2002

NAVASOTA — Services for Courtnie Nicole Roebuck, 8, of Navasota are set for 2 p.m. Monday at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.

The Rev. Charles Tompkins of Salem House of Blessings will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Courtnie died Thursday in Grimes St. Joseph Health Center.

She was born in Bryan and was a student at John C. Webb Elementary School.

Survivors include her parents, Dale Wayne and Pam Batson of Leander, Texas, and Tracie Roebuck of Navasota; grandparents, Martha Herschell Roebuck of Navasota, Jerry L. Batson of Nacogdoches and Allene Beneke of Las Vegas; four brothers, Zachery Batson and Jesse Batson, both of Cushing, Texas, J.D. Purdy and Michael Purdy, both of Leander, Texas; three sisters, Chaney Kirby, Caitlin Kirby and Cristy Kirby, all of Navasota; and great-grandmothers, Ruthie Roebuck of The Woodlands and Edna Batson of Lufkin.

James H. Torres

May 14, 1939 — March 15, 2002

NAVASOTA — Services for James H. Torres, 62, of Katy, Texas, are set for 10 a.m. Monday at Christ Our Light Catholic Church in Navasota.

The Rev. Paul Felix of Christ Our Light Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota and from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the church.

A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Mr. Torres died Friday in Lewisville, Texas.

He was born in Navasota and was a retired supervisor for Cyclone Cylinders.

Survivors include his wife, Teresa Torres of Katy; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Sharon Torres of Kingwood, Texas, and Stevie Torres of Katy; three daughters and a son-in-law, Annette and Jack Hamlyn of Portland, Texas, Sheli Torres of Timpson, Texas, and Amy Torres of Katy; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Pete and Alice Torres of Baytown, Texas, George and Mary Torres of Houston, Charlie and Mary Torres of Big Wells, Texas, Sies and Teresa Torres of San Antonio and Felix and Gloria Torres of College Station; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Ruby Vega of Navasota, Grace and Nick Hernandez of Bryan and Ruth Cedillo of Austin; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Bernice G. Schleider
Nov. 21, 1923 — March 16, 2002

Services for Bernice G. Schleider, 78, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in College Station.

The Rev. Erich Schaefer of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mrs. Schleider died Saturday in the College Station Medical Center.

She was born in Brenham and lived in Bryan 45 years. She was a retired bookkeeper and member of the Business and Professional Women’s Association and WELCA. She was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her husband, Herb Schleider of Bryan; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Paul and Lyla Schleider of Bryan and Skip Schleider of Brenham; a sister, Velma Faithauer of Brenham; two sisters-in-law, Alice Marie Holle of Brenham and Margie Darrah of Quartzsite, Ariz.

Memorials may be made to Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 315 Tauber, College Station, Texas 77840.

Carol Henry Hendrix

May 4, 1933 — March 17, 2002

Services for Carol Henry Hendrix, 68, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in College Station.

The Rev. Erich Schaefer of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

Mr. Hendrix died Sunday at his home.

He was born in Grimes County and lived in Bryan most of his life. He worked for the Texas Department of Transportation for 37 years and served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, where he made all of the stained-glass windows.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Hendrix of Bryan; two sons, David Hendrix of Missouri City, Texas, and Glen Hendrix of Sugar Land, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Cheri and Dean Blankenship of Missouri City; his mother, Alice Hendrix of Bryan; and a granddaughter.

Memorials may be made to Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 315 Tauber, College Station, Texas 77840, or to a charity of choice.

Angel Star Gomez

March 18, 2002 — March 18, 2002

HEARNE — Graveside services for Angel Star Gomez, infant, of Hearne are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Greater Riverside Cemetery in Hearne.

Arrangements are under the direction of Heartfield Funeral Home in Hearne.

Angel died Monday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was a Baptist.

Survivors include her mother, Ashley Gomez of Hearne; a sister, Vanity Gomez of Hearne; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Williams of Hearne.

Anna Lee Gresham

Nov. 9, 1921 — March 16, 2002

CENTERVILLE — Services for Anna Lee Gresham, 80, of Centerville are set for 1 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Centerville.

Her son-in-law, the Rev. Jarvis Streeter, will officiate. Burial will be in the Centerville Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., and from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Walters Funeral Home in Centerville.

Mrs. Gresham died Saturday in a Crockett nursing home.

She was born in Jacksonville, Texas, and lived in Centerville since 1941. She was a member of the Leon County Genealogical Society, the Leon County Historical Society and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was past president of the Centerville Cemetery Association and helped reorganize the cemetery in the early 1980s. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Centerville and served as church treasurer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Gresham Jr.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gilbert III and Jill Gresham and Robert L. Gresham, all of Centerville; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Jarvis Streeter of Camarillo, Calif.; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Centerville Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 340, Centerville, Texas 75833, or to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 433, Centerville, Texas 75833.

Roy G. Grimes Sr.

Dec. 2, 1926 — March 17, 2002

JEWETT — Services for Roy G. Grimes Sr., 75, of Marquez are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home in Jewett.

The Rev. Ray Payne of Ephesus Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Marquez Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., and from 8 a.m. to the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Grimes died Sunday in the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Temple.

He was a lifelong resident of Marquez and was a carpenter and rancher. He served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Grimes of Marquez; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Wayne Spivey of Huntsville, Shirley and Jimmy McCune of Marquez and Gwen and Robbie Robins of Jewett; two sons, Roy Grimes Jr. and Ronny Grimes, both of Marquez; a brother and sister-in-law, Druey Lee and Evelyn Grimes of Concord; two sisters, Polly Sanders of Waco and Iva Cabeen of Houston; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
