Bertha Jo Summerlin

ROCKDALE — Services for Bertha Jo Summerlin, 71, of Gause are set for 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.
Buddy Morton of the Gause Baptist Chapel will officiate. Burial will be in the Gause Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Summerlin died Friday in the College Station Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of Gause and was a member of the Gause Baptist Chapel. She was a store manager for Circle K convenience stores in Rockdale and Hearne.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Summerlin; and a son, Franky Dee Summerlin Sr.
Survivors include her mother, Ida Bartlett of Gause; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Dr. Domingo “Doc” Jesus Cabrera
1929 — 2002
Domingo “Doc” Jesus Cabrera passed away Saturday evening at his residence at the age of 73. Dr. Cabrera was born in Havana, Cuba. He married his sweetheart, “Cuqui”, in 1955 and came to the U.S. in 1970 to start a new life. They moved to Bryan in 1974. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and the Brazos-Robertson County Medical Association. “Doc” practiced medicine for over 45 years.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 pm Monday and from 8:30-9:30 am Tuesday in the Hillier Funeral Home.
A rosary will be recited at 7 pm Monday in the Hillier Funeral Home by Monsignor John Malinowski. The Funeral Mass will be at 10 am Tuesday in the St. Anthony Catholic Church with Monsignor John Malinowski, officiating. Interment will follow in the College Station Cemetery.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Stephen Tseng, Rhonda Cain, Kim Sheffield, Judy Comeaux and Jodi Kothman, for their loving care.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary “Cuqui” Cabrera of Bryan, Texas; four daughters and sons-in-law, Mary & Brett Whitten of Snook, Texas, Martha & Rob Zimmerman of Edmond, OK, Carmen & Jim Sheffield of Austin, Texas, and Teresa and Brad Wyatt of Bryan, Texas; one cousin, Emilio Crespo of Miami, FL; nine grandchildren, Buster Whitten, Cherry Whitten, Gilly Whitten, Dulce Whitten, Jonathan Callaway, Travis Sheffield, Camille Sheffield, Michael Zeke Sheffield and Dominic Wyatt.

A Mass for Domingo “Doc” Jesus Cabrera, M.D., 73, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Bryan.
Monsignor John Malinowski will officiate. Burial will be in the College Station Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Dr. Cabrera died Saturday at his home.
He was born in Havana, Cuba, and was retired as a doctor and surgeon. He was a member of the Brazos-Robertson County Medical Association and St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

Fred Sherwood Thorndyke Sr.

JEWETT — Services for Fred Sherwood Thorndyke Sr., 77, of Leon County are set for 2 p.m. Monday at the Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home Chapel in Jewett.
The Rev. E.B. Gillen of the Assembly of God Church will officiate. Burial will be in Sardis Cemetery.
Mr. Thorndyke died Friday in the Buffalo Nursing Home.
He was born in San Antonio and was a Baptist. He was a heavy equipment dealer.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Fred Thorndyke Jr. and Billy Wayne Smith.
Survivors include seven sons and a daughter-in-law, Donald and Diane Thorndyke, Robert Thorndyke and Troy Thorndyke, all of Oakdale, La., Michael Thorndyke of Amarillo, Jeffery Thorndyke, Wesley Thorndyke and Jerime Thorndyke, all of Porter, Texas; three daughters, Cassie Reynolds of Buffalo, Christie Thorndyke and Tanya Thorndyke, both of Porter; and numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Cathleen ‘Jack’ Wallin
Nov. 22, 1906 — March 9, 2002
Services for Cathleen “Jack” Wallin, 95, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Callaway-Jones Chapel in Bryan.
Burial will be in the Bryan City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Wallin died Saturday at her home.
She was a lifelong resident of Bryan and was a member of Central Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Buster Wallin.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Judy Wallin of Houston; two daughters, Rosemary Moore and Doris Wallin, both of Bryan; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Nina Bardwell, Judy and Leon Bustin and Betty Milton, all of Houston; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mary Ann Hejny

NAVASOTA — Services for Mary Ann Hejny, 45, of Anderson are set for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Plantersville.
The Rev. Edward C. Kucera Jr. of St. Mary’s Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Navasota.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.
Mrs. Hejny died Saturday in Memorial Health Center in Houston.
She was born in Port Washington, Wis., and was a substitute teacher for the Anderson schools.
Survivors include her husband, David Neal Hejny of Anderson; three sons, David Allen Abramowski of Memphis, Tenn., Douglas Joseph Hejny and Clinton Keith Hejny, both of Anderson; a daughter and son-in-law, Jessica Ann and Jason Vaughan of Montgomery, Texas; six brothers and five sisters-in-law, Myron and Victoria Graff and Davis Michael and Peggy Graff, all of Port Washington, Thomas Lee and Maura Graff of Jackson, Miss., John Paul and Sylvia Graff of Friendswood, Texas, James Howard Graff of Houston and Robert Michael and Renee Graff of Horn Lake, Tenn.; her mother, Dorothy Ann Graff of Port Washington; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Bessie Cortinas Lugo
Feb. 27, 1929 — March 10, 2002
ROCKDALE — Services for Bessie Cortinas Lugo, 73, of Rockdale are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rockdale.
The Rev. Robert Herald of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.
A rosary will be recited by Deacon Don Simms at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Ms. Lugo died Sunday at Scott & White Hospital in Temple.
She was born in Bartlett, Texas, and lived in Rockdale for 30 years. She formerly lived in Taylor, Texas, and was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She worked for the housekeeping and janitorial departments for the city of Rockdale.
She was preceded in death by a son, Raymond Tovar.
Survivors include three sons, Rudy Tovar and Alvin Cortinas, both of Longview, and Gilbert Cortinas of Rockdale; two daughters, Dora Zapata of Killeen and Rose Mary Sanchez of Taylor; a sister, Ruth Buckalew of Taylor; 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Norman Lowell McCarver Jr.
Dec. 30, 1935 — March 10, 2002
HEARNE — Services for Norman Lowell McCarver Jr., 66, of Hearne are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Heartfield Funeral Home in Hearne.
The Rev. Roland Cole of College Station will officiate. Burial will be in Norwood Cemetery.
Mr. McCarver died Sunday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.
He was born in Marlin and was a longtime resident of Hearne. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of St. Phillip’s Episcopal Church in Hearne.
Survivors include numerous cousins.
