Otto Flentge Jr.

BRENHAM — Services for Otto Flentge Jr., 77, of Brenham are set for 2 p.m. Monday at the Salem Lutheran Church in Salem.
The Rev. Bill Derrick will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.
Mr. Flentge died Friday in Trinity Medical Center.
He was born in the Wesley community of Washington County and retired in 1987 after 40 years with the Washington County Road and Bridge Department. He served in the military during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 48. He was also a member of Salem Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Schulz Flentge of Brenham; a son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Cindy Flentge of Brenham; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharion Ann and Willie Leiber of Pasadena; a brother and sister-in-law, Milton and La Ruth Flentge of Brenham; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Alma Wensel, Helen Dannhaus and Mary and Monroe Tockhorn; a brother-in-law, William Felscher; and five grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Salem Lutheran Church of Salem.
Ruby A. Rackel
June 6, 1916 — Feb. 28, 2002
ROCKDALE — Services for Ruby A. Rackel, 85, of Rockdale are set for 11 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings.
The Rev. Wilbern Michalk of Immanuel Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Giddings City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.
Mrs. Rackel died Thursday in Burleson, Texas.
She was born in Lexington and lived in Rockdale since 1974. She was a homemaker and formerly lived in Houston.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles M. Rackel.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Jr. and Myra Sue Rackel of Spring; three daughters and sons-in-law, La Vern and Edward Pampell of Giddings, Charlene and Marvin Beisert of Conroe and Carol and Ken Crowley of Cleburne; a brother and sister-in-law, Milton and Verna Petzold of Smithville; two sisters, Isabel Schroeder and Louise Luedke, both of Tomball; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
James Owen Adams
April 19, 1913 — March 3, 2002
Memorial services for Mr. J.O. Adams, age 88, of Bryan, Texas, will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2002, 11:00 am, at the First Presbyterian Church of Bryan.
Mr. Adams was born in Porum, Oklahoma and moved to Bryan from Houston in 1967. He came to Texas A&M University as an early retiree from The Dow Chemical Co., having served in various technical and administrative positions for 20 years in Freeport and Houston, TX and Baton Rouge, LA. At Texas A&M University, he was Director of Facilities Planning and Construction from 1967 until he retired in 1978.
He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma. He held memberships in several professional organizations including American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Professional Engineers of Texas, Louisiana and Minnesota, and Tau Beta Pi, honorary Engineering fraternity.
Mr. Adams was an avid golfer and served two three-year terms on the Board of Directors of Briarcrest Country Club and as President of Briarcrest in 1972. He also served as a member of the Advisory Drainage Committee for the City of Bryan.
He was a member and Elder in First Presbyterian Church of Freeport, Texas, First Presbyterian Church of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church of Houston, and First Presbyterian Church of Bryan, Texas.
Mr. Adams is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Jean Hall Adams. He is survived by three daughters, Margaret Adams Madeley and husband Foster of Conroe, TX, Clare Adams Kittle of Seattle, WA., and Annette Adams Hartwig and husband Eric of Fall Church, VA.; three grandchildren, Mark, Daniel Owen and Mary Clare Madeley; and sweetheart, Sibyl D. Gill.
The Reverends Philip McLarty and Bob Leslie are officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Hillier Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1100 Carter Creek Parkway, Bryan, Texas 77802 or Hospice Brazos Valley, 205 East 29th Street, Bryan, Texas 77802.
Merriman Claude Bass

Graveside services for Merriman Claude Bass, 90, of Houston are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Bryan City Cemetery.
The Rev. Billy Johnson will officiate.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.
Mr. Bass died Sunday in Houston.
He was born in Bartlesville, Okla., and was retired as senior oil scheduler for Shell Oil Company. He was a member of the College Avenue Baptist Church in Bryan. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and as a PFC in the 8th Air Force and was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Mamie Lee Bass of Houston; two sons and daughters-in-law, Howard and Betty Bass and Johnny Lee and Margie Bass, all of Houston; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Norma and James Mintz and Bonnie Bass, all of Houston, Marian and George “Skip” Leibensperger of Plano and Deborah and the Rev. Billy Johnson of Belton, Texas; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Arthur Buchanan

NAVASOTA — Services for Arthur Buchanan, 95, of Navasota are set for 11 a.m. Monday at Greater New Hope Baptist Church in Navasota.
The Rev. Roosevelt Rogers will officiate. Burial will be in Little Flock Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Monday at Jones Funeral Home Chapel in Navasota.
Mr. Buchanan died Wednesday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.
He was born in Grimes County and was a lifelong resident of Navasota. He was a retired farmer and was a member of Green Valley Baptist Church in Navasota.
Survivors include his wife, Lizzie Buchanan of Navasota; two sons, George Ellis of Houston and James Buchanan of Navasota; three daughters, Leslie Black and Ada Allen, both of Houston, and Evelyn St. Luce of Baytown, Texas; 24 grandchildren; and 45 great-grandchildren.
James C. ‘J.C.’ Carroll
Oct. 7, 1943 — March 2, 2002
NAVASOTA — Services for James C. “J.C.” Carroll, 58, of Navasota are set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Navasota.
The Rev. Karl Choate, interim pastor at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, will officiate.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.
Mr. Carroll died Saturday in Navasota.
He was born in Tulsa, Okla., and was a computer specialist for the Bryan Police Department. He was a member of the Navasota Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Marla S. Carroll of Navasota; a daughter and son-in-law, Jaime and Trey Wright of College Station; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Kitty and Sam Sampson of Ottawa, Kan., and Vicki Eicher of Paradise Valley, Ariz.; his mother, Florence Carroll of Ottawa; a granddaughter; and numerous other relatives.
Edna Thomas McDaniel
July 8, 1922 — March 2, 2002
NAVASOTA — Services for Edna Thomas McDaniel, 79, of Montgomery, Texas, are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.
The Rev. Ross Poteet of the First United Methodist Church in Navasota will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Monday and from noon to the time of the services Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. McDaniel died Saturday in Montgomery.
She was born in Dahlgren, Ill., and worked as an office clerk for the Navasota Medical Center. She was chairwoman for the Society of St. Stephen’s Ministry, worked for the food pantry at Grace Methodist Church and was a hospital volunteer at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown, Texas. She served as Yeoman 2nd Class in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of Grace Methodist Church in Baytown.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Scott McDaniel.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John Scott and Kim McDaniel of Montgomery; two daughters, Dixie Callihan of Montgomery and Janice Floyd of Spring, Texas; two brothers, Perry Thomas of Bluford, Ill., and Bob Thomas of Woodland, Ill.; a sister, Betty Minson of Benton, Ill.; and four grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Emma Hegefeld Addicks

BRENHAM — Services for Emma Hegefeld Addicks, 86, of Brenham are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Christ Lutheran Church in Brenham.
The Rev. Blair Lundborg will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.
Mrs. Addicks died Sunday in Brenham.
She was born in the Sandy Hill community of Washington County and attended William Penn and Sandy Hill schools. She was retired as custodian at Brenham High School and was a member of Christ Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Addicks.
Survivors include a brother-in-law, August Lampe; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
