Mary Kathryn ‘Mickey’ Bruner

April 15, 1927 — March 31, 2002

A Mass for Mary Kathryn “Mickey” Bruner, 74, of Bryan is set for 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan. Monsignor John McCaffrey will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at the Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Hillier Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Bruner died Sunday at Bryton Inn.

She was born in Houston and lived in Bryan for 48 years. She was a homemaker and attended Lady of the Lakes and Southwestern University. Mrs. Bruner was a volunteer for St. Joseph Hospital for many years, a member of the Woman’s Club, a past Girl Scout leader and an election chairwoman for several years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry L. Bruner.

Survivors include a son, Paul Bruner of Tallulah, La.; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Henry Tatem of Vicksburg, Miss.; a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Alberta Ross of South Bend, Ind.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Jimmie Norene Keith

Aug. 9, 1918 — April 1, 2002

FRANKLIN — Services for Jimmie Norene Keith, 83, of Franklin are set for 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Henry Prairie Baptist Church. The Rev. Brent Ballew of the First Baptist Church in New Baden will officiate. Burial will be in the Henry Prairie Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at McCauley Funeral Home in Franklin.

Mrs. Keith died Monday in Franklin.

She was born in Franklin and attended school in Calvert. Mrs. Keith was a resident of Franklin for 20 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in New Baden.

Survivors include her husband, John H. Keith of Franklin; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Daniel Cochran of Pasadena, Texas; a sister and brother-in-law, Juanita and Jack Sanders of New Baden; two daughters-in-law, Minnie and Sue Page; 11 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.

Brenda René Hayes Holce

Jan. 31, 1967 — March 30, 2002

ARLINGTON — Services for Brenda René Hayes Holce, 35, of Arlington are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lawson Funeral Home in Meridian, Texas. Burial will be in the Meridian Cemetery.

Ms. Holce died Saturday in an automobile accident in Walnut Springs, Texas.

She was born in Fort Worth and was raised in Everman, Texas. She was a 1985 graduate of Everman High School and a 1991 graduate of Texas A&M University, where she received a bachelor’s degree in sociology and English.

Survivors include a daughter, Rebecca Anne Holce of Fort Worth; her parents, Elsie and Jim Moews of Forth Worth; a grandmother, Eva Heartsill of Walnut Springs; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and relatives.

Memorials may be made to The Warm Place in Fort Worth, M.D. #Anderson Children’s Project, 1-800-231-1580, or a children’s charity of choice.

Lovell Randolph

Nov. 24, 1920 — March 30, 2002

Services for Lovell Randolph, 81, of College Station are set for 1 p.m. Friday at Calvary Hill Funeral Home in Houston. The Rev. Robert Wilson of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Calvary Hill Cemetery in Houston.

Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at Calvary Hill Funeral Home in Houston.

Arrangements are under the direction of Sutton-Sutton Mortuary in San Antonio.

Mr. Randolph died Saturday in San Antonio.

He was born in Bryan and lived in College Station for many years. Mr. Randolph graduated from Kemp High School, served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Estalene Randolph.

Survivors include a son, Victor Randolph of College Station; two daughters, Veril Hughes of Houston and Veronica K. Jones of San Antonio; a brother, Roosevelt Randolph of San Francisco; and four grandchildren.

Gertrude Kocian

Oct. 30, 1930 — April 2, 2002

ROCKDALE — Services for Gertrude Kocian, 71, of Rockdale are set for 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rockdale. The Rev. Robert Herald will officiate. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday and a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home.

Mrs. Kocian died Tuesday at her home.

She was born in Bremond and was a sales clerk at Kid’s World Clothing in Rockdale and a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Victor Kocian of Rockdale; a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Donny Marek of Rockdale; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie and Frank Kubiak of Rockdale, Joan and Johnny Stzlecke of Magnolia, Texas, Barbara “Bobbie” and C.M. Kloss of Bremond and Patsy and Bernard Hopcus of Bryan; and two grandchildren.

Karl Shepard

March 30, 1912 — March 30, 2002

NAVASOTA — Services for Karl Shepard, 90, of Navasota are set for 11 a.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home Chapel in Navasota. The Rev. John Sanders will officiate. Burial will be in the High Point Cemetery in Stoneham, Texas.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Shepard died Saturday at Grimes St. Joseph Health Center.

He was a lifetime resident of Grimes County and was a farmer and a bus driver, a deacon of High Point Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving an honorable discharge.

Survivors include two nephews, Karl Butler and Ronald Butler, both of Houston.

Gus Merchant

Dec. 25, 1935 — March 30, 2002

MADISONVILLE — Services for Gus Merchant, 66, of Madisonville are set for 11 a.m. Thursday at the J.M. Day Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Dexter Henderson will officiate. Burial will be at the West End Cemetery in Madisonville.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Barbara Scott and Kathy and Aaron Doughty, all of Glen Burnie, Md.; two sisters, Lois Marie Henderson of Texas City and Ocie Jones of Ennis, Texas; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one cousin.

Charles Stephens

June 25, 1944 — April 2, 2002

ANDERSON — Services for Charles Stephens, 57, of Anderson are set for 3 p.m. Friday at the J.M. Day Funeral Home Chapel in Madisonville. The Rev. Larry Andrews will officiate. Burial will be in the Jozye Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Stephens died Tuesday at his home.

He was born in Madisonville. He served in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Stephens of Anderson; his mother, Mildred Stephens of Madisonville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Annette and Timothy Byrne of Houston and Stacy and Jason Pullin of Buffalo; a son, Dustyn Stephens of Iola; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Stephens of Palestine; two stepsons, Spencer Brown of Houston and William Brown and his wife, Kelley, of Iola; a stepdaughter and her husband, Traci and Jerry Reynolds of Splendora, Texas; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Donald and Sue Stephens of Alamogordo, N.M., and Larry Stephens of Pasadena, Texas; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Molly Wells of Conroe and Elaine and Robert Rosier of Danbury, Texas; two grandchildren; and numerous relatives and friends.

Joy D. Alexander

Aug. 22, 1953 — March 30, 2002

CAMERON — Services for Joy D. Alexander, 48, of Cameron are set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Harlin Chapel Baptist Church in Jones Prairie. Burial will be in the Mount Zion Cemetery in Baileyville.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Mrs. Alexander died Saturday in an Austin hospital.

She was a lifetime resident of Cameron and a homemaker.

She was a member of Harlin Baptist Church of Jones Prairie.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Ray Alexander.

Survivors include her mother, Cillerstean Evans of Ben Arnold; a son, Luther Ray Alexander Jr. of Temple; four daughters and a son-in-law, Keshay Alexander, Veronica Alexander, Felicia and James Dubose and Christopher Alexander, all of Cameron; three brothers, Frank Evans Jr. of Stockton, Calif., Charles Evans of Cameron and Roy Evans of Lawton, Okla.; four sisters, Novella Evans of Vallejo, Calif., Etta Evans of Cameron, Christine Sterling of Austin and Priscilla Tindle of Rockdale; a mother-in-law, Jewel Alexander of Rosebud; 11 grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Joseph Wesley Miller

Nov. 21, 1912 — April 2, 2002

HILLTOP LAKES — Services for Joseph Wesley Miller, 89, of Hilltop Lakes are set for 11 a.m. Friday at Hilltop Lakes Chapel. Dr. Chuck Isbell and Dr. Bob Kristensen will officiate.

Inurnment will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio at 10:30 a.m. Monday.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mr. Miller died Tuesday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Saratoga, Texas, and lived in Bryan for the past 36 years. He was a member of Hilltop Lakes Chapel and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in Africa and Europe.

Survivors include his wife, Laurice Miller of Hilltop Lakes; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Kent Anderson of Dallas; and a sister, Vannie Dzilsky of Baytown.
