Romanita Nita Vaca Barrera

Romanita Vaca Barrera, loving wife, sister, aunt, mother and grandmother, departed this earth on November 29, 2002. She was one of the first Hispanic businesswomen of Bryan starting her own beauty shop in the 1950s and practicing her trade for 40 years. Her small shop was a social gathering place for many local women.
Romanita Vaca was born August 9, 1930 in Hearne, Texas, and was a resident of Bryan for over 65 years. She was the oldest of six daughters to Secundino Vaca and Maria Herrera Vaca. Her early education was cut short due to helping support her family and serve as a migrant farm worker as a youth. While still a teen, she attended beauty school in Waco, Texas, graduating in 1950. At the age of twenty she was required to heavily assist with family expenses for a house of eight including her parents. She was very creative and was always working on projects. She was an avid seamstress and crafter all of her life and at the age of 70, she taught herself to paint.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Secundino Vaca and Maria Herrera Vaca; and two sisters, Suzie Alvarez and Dora Lopez.
Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Victor Barrera; daughters, Teresa Barrera of Bryan and Mary Ann Vaca-Lambert and her husband Mark Lambert of Houston; her grandson, James Barrera; and her sisters, Alice Pena of Austin, Gloria Vasquez and her husband George Vasquez of Austin and Maria Garrison of Houston; and nephews, Moses Alvarez Jr. of Bryan and his family, Phil Alvarez of Fort Worth and his family; and other close relatives including 11 other nieces, nephews and their families.
A memorial service will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, December 2, 2002 at the Sanctuary of Praise, 1216 Beck, Bryan, Texas. Pastor Jose P. Alaniz, Jr. officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Sanctuary of Praise Church.
Romanita died as she lived, always wanting to give to others, her body being willed to science.
Bennie Ray Davis

Bennie Ray Davis, 55, of Rockdale died Thursday in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Temple.
Arrangements are under the direction of Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. No services are planned.
Mr. Davis was born in Hamilton, Ala., and lived in Rockdale for two years. He formerly lived in Hondo and was a telephone repairman with Southwestern Bell Telephone, retiring after 32 years of service. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Elois Davis of Sabinal; two daughters, Dare Jean Davis of Belton and Melissa Davis of Thorndale; two step-daughters, Jennifer Hammond of Rockdale and Amanda Hustus of Sabinal; a step-son, Dayton Hustus of Gause; his parents, Leslie and Edrith Davis of Rockdale; three sisters, Jo Ann Hammond, Leslie Karen Beck and Kimberlie Sue Jones, all of Rockdale; and two grandchildren.
Ida Ruth Harris

Services for Ida Ruth Harris, 62, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Bryan.
Elder Ray C. Lang of the Church of the Living God will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.
Mrs. Harris died Monday at her home. She was born in Burleson County and was a lifelong resident of Bryan. She attended Lincoln High School and was a member of the Church of the Living God.
Survivors include her husband, Odie Harris Sr. of Bryan; a son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. Odie Jr. and Wendy Harris of Desoto; four daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon Diane and Rathers Norwood of Austin, Gwendolyn Ann and Clifford Martin and Shanta Yvette and Lonnie Goosby Jr., all of Bryan, and Barbara Jean and Helree Robinson Searcy Jr. of College Station; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Doris Jean and Velmont Jones of Austin and Kuristeen and Preston Turner of Stafford; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Glenn Edward Holleman

BUFFALO Services for Glenn Edward Holleman, 62, of Jewett are set for 11 a.m. Monday at the Ephesus Baptist Church in Jewett.
The Rev. Ray Payne will officiate. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Buffalo Funeral Home.
Mr. Holleman died Friday at the Parkview Regional Hospital in Mexia.
He was born in San Juan and lived in Jewett since 1995. He was retired from the Houston Fire Department and was a member of Ephesus Baptist Church. He was a member of the Jewett Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 624.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Holleman of Jewett; a daughter, Cindy Lynne Holbrook of Spring; two brothers and a sister-in-law, John and Bonnie Holleman of Damon and Steve Holleman of Katy; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Muriel and Robert Persky of San Antonio, Peggy Hutton, and Jayne and Joe Morrison, all of Copperas Cove; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sally and Norvin Froehling of Houston; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Evelyn Mae Loftin

CAMERON Services for Evelyn Mae Loftin, 89, of Cameron are set for 2 p.m. Sunday in the Kathryn W. Green Chapel of Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron.
The Rev. Gary Maroney will officiate. Burial will be in the Corinth Cemetery in Buckholts.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Loftin died Friday in a Temple nursing home.
She was born in Yarrellton and was a homemaker. She was a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hallie B. Loftin.
Survivors include a son, Bobby Gene Loftin of Temple; a daughter, Margie Wells of Cameron; four brothers, Edwin Mann Gandy of Buckholts, Willard Gandy, Kenneth Gandy and Nicholas Gandy, all of Temple; a sister, Myrtle Hill of Brownwood; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Robert R. Mooney

Private services for Robert R. Mooney, 69, of College Station will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station.
Mr. Mooney died Saturday in the College Station Medical Center.
He was born in Lake Charles, La., and was an engineer working in Houston and Saudi Arabia building power plants and refineries. He received his bachelors degree in mechanical engineering in 1956 from Texas A&M University and was a member of the 12th Man Foundation, Century Club and Quarterback Club.
Mr. Mooney served on the Wolf Pen Creek Development Board, Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals, Building Standards Commission and the Rail Advisory Committee of the Metropolitan Planning Organization in Brazos County. He served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Signal Corps.
Survivors include his wife, Paulene Roeder Mooney of College Station; a daughter and son-in-law, Kelley Mooney and Ronnie Naramore of College Station; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard Michael and Bonnie Mooney of Arizona; a sister, Marion Jones of Houston; six sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; a granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jimmy Lee Peavy Sr.

NAVASOTA Services for Jimmy Lee Peavy Sr., 61, of Navasota are set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Holland Baptist Church in Navasota.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at Jones Funeral Home in Navasota.
Mr. Peavy died Tuesday at his home.
He was born in Grimes County and was a laborer for a steel plant.
Survivors include his wife, Dorine Peavy of Navasota; four sons, Tommy, Andrew, Larry and Jimmy Jr., all of Navasota; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Brian Didlake of Richmond, Ga.; five sisters, Evelyn Gaines, Elsie Mae West, Johnnie Dorsey, Georgia Marie and Josie Marie; and his parents, Jessie James and Willie Lee Peavy.
Eleanora Dahmann Schulze

BRENHAM Services for Eleanora Dahmann Schulze, 72, of Brenham are set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in William Penn.
The Rev. Eldor Harmann will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.
Mrs. Schulze died Friday in Trinity Medical Center.
She was born in the William Penn community of Washington County and attended William Penn School. She was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and taught Sunday school for 10 years. She was a member of the L.W.M.L. She retired from Wallace Computer in 1993.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elroy Schulze.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Pat Schulze of Houston; and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to William Penn Lutheran Church.
Elida Serna

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Heartfield Funeral Home in Hearne.
A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Serna died Thursday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.
She was born in Lockhart and was a longtime resident of Hearne. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Pentecostal Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Serna Sr.; and a son, Louis Serna Jr.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Fidel and Margaret Serna of Hearne; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Jose Rubio of McAllen and Debbie and Joseph Aguillon of Hearne; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
