John C. ‘Jake’ McManus Sr.

TEXARKANA — Services for John C. “Jake” McManus Sr., 82, of Texarkana are set for 1 p.m. Wednesday at East Memorial Chapel in Texarkana.
Bishop H.J. Platt will officiate. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio with full military honors.
Arrangements are under the direction of East Funeral Home in Texarkana.
Mr. McManus died Monday in a Texarkana hospital.
He was born in Humble, and retired from the U.S. Army as a command sergeant major after 32 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II and a survivor of prisoner of war camps for 22 months. He was also a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a Shriner.
Survivors include his wife, Winnie Mae McManus of Texarkana; two sons and a daughter-in-law, John McManus Jr. of Arlington and Jim and Patsy McManus of Texarkana; a brother, David James McManus of Jeffersonville; a sister, Mary Taylor of Duncan, Okla.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Gary W. Scott

CALDWELL — A memorial service for Gary W. Scott, 55, of Caldwell is set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Caldwell.
Bob Owens, pastor of Providence Baptist Church will officiate.
Mr. Scott died Sunday in Temple. He was born in Beaumont. He was a fire safety inspector.
Survivors include his former wife, Cathy Scott of Caldwell; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Shannon Herrmann of Bryan; a daughter, Ruey Cherie Underhill of Bryan; a brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Linda Scott of Caldwell; a sister, Melanie Scott of Bryan; and three grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Beverly Brown
Sept. 20, 1943 — Nov. 18, 2002
HOUSTON — Services for Beverly Brown, 59, of Houston are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Walters Funeral Home in Centerville.
Burial will be in the Centerville Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Brown died Monday.
She was born in Portsmouth, Va., and attended high school in Victoria before graduating from Centerville High School in 1961. She was employed by Mobil Oil Company in Dallas for four years.
Mrs. Brown received her bachelor of arts degree from Sam Houston State Teachers’ College in 1965. She moved to Houston and worked at the headquarters of Cooper Industries Inc. where she was director of personnel services until her retirement in 1997.
Survivors include her mother, Margaret C. “Margie” Brown of Centerville; and a sister and brother-in-law, Marsha and Thomas B. Taylor of Houston.

Kaye W. Rittman
Oct. 15, 1937 — Nov. 18, 2002
Services for Kaye W. Rittman, 65, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Bishop Carl McNeeley will officiate. Burial will be in the Forest Park Cemetery in Fort Smith, Ark.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hillier Funeral Home and from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Forest Park Cemetery in Fort Smith.
Mrs. Rittman died Monday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.
She was born in Helena, Ark., and lived in Bryan for 30 years. She attended Fort Smith Junior College and the University of Arkansas. She was a homemaker and member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Survivors include her husband, Mason C. Rittman of Bryan; four sons; a daughter; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
B.J.“Buck” Zubik
Aug. 14, 1905 - Nov. 18, 2002
Funeral services for B.J. “Buck” Zubik, age 97, will be held at 10:00 am Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan. Msgr. John McCaffrey of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Rev. Michael Sis of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in College Station will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday and 8:00 am to 9:30 am Friday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.
A Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home. B.J. “Buck” Zubik was born to Frank and Anna Zubik in La Grange, Texas August 14, 1905. He has been a resident of Brazos County for 92 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan, and the K.J.T. He was retired from Zubik and Sons Military Tailors and Suppliers of North Gate in College Station.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances A. Zubik; his parents Frank and Anna Zubik; an infant brother; his sister Mildred Sebesta and a brother, Frank Zubik.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Jerry Dusek of Bryan; his granddaughter and her husband, Vickie Lynne and Chris Rodriguez; one great-granddaughter, April Martin; two great-grandsons, Collin Ray and Christopher Rodriguez; one step-great-grandson Michael Rodriguez, all of Highland Village, Texas; one brother, Jerome “Jack” Zubik of Bryan, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph School Trust Fund or to the St. Joseph Catholic Church Building Fund.
Mary E. Friedrick
October 22, 1920 – November 17, 2002
Mary E. Friedrick, 80, of Cedar Park, died Sunday night at a local hospital.
She was born in Pittsburgh PA on October 22, 1920. After graduating high school, she went into nursing school and served in the Army Nurse Corps in the Philippines during WWII with the rank of 1st Lieutenant. After WWII, on May 21, 1947, she married John Friedrick. They went on to have 8 children.
She worked as a nurse at St. Francis and John J. Kane hospitals between the
years of 1946 -1979.
They moved to Snook TX in 1979 and she worked as a lab technician at Texas A&M University. She retired while living in Snook. They moved to Cedar Park in 2001 where she resided until her death on November 17, 2002.
She was a beloved mother, grandmother, wife, sister and aunt. She has survived by her husband, 8 children, 22 grandchildren, 1 great
grandchild, 2 brothers and 1 sister. The viewing will be held from 12 pm to 8 pm, Wednesday, November 20, at All Faiths Funeral Home, 8507 N. IH 35 in Austin Texas. The service will be held at 10 am, Thursday, November 21, at Church of The Hills, 3502 Hatch Rd., in Cedar Park.
Louise W. Crank
July 25, 1901 — Nov. 19, 2002
MADISONVILLE — Services for Julia Louise Wakefield Crank, 101, of Midway are set for 11 a.m. Friday at the Midway Church of Christ.
Arrangements are under the direction of J.M. Day Funeral Home in Madisonville.
Mrs. Crank died Tuesday at the Riverwood Nursing Home in Madisonville.
She was born in the Wakefield homestead and grew up in Madison County. She was a pianist and a member of the Midway Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Crank.
Survivors include her two sons and daughters-in-law, John W. and Bobbie Crank of Austin and Albert B. and Carol Crank of Lumberton; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Midway Community Development Program.
Joseph Childs

Services for Joseph Childs, 86, of Bryan are set for noon Friday at New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Bryan.
The Rev. S.E. Taplin will officiate. Burial will be in the Smetana Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.
Mr. Childs died Monday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan.
Mr. Childs was a lifelong resident of Brazos County. He was a laborer, a member of the New Jerusalem Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Willie Mae Childs of Bryan; a stepdaughter, Bennie L. Bell of Bryan; a brother, A.B. Childs of Oakland, Calif.; four stepgrandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Modest O. Glass

KILGORE — Services for Modest O. Glass, 94, of Kilgore are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Somerville.
The Rev. Ralph Powers will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Somerville.
Mrs. Glass died Monday in the Heart of Texas Nursing Home in Kilgore.
She was born in Haywood, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Barham, and her second husband, John W. Glass.
Survivors include a daughter, Virginia Vick of Kilgore; a son and daughter-in-law, Ernest and Patricia Barham of Bullock; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
Billie Nell Gray
May 25, 1954 — Nov. 20, 2002
FRANKLIN — Services for Billie Nell Gray, 48, of Franklin are set for 10 a.m. Friday at McCauley Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin.
Karl Whitworth of Bremond will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery near Franklin.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m., and from 9 a.m. to the time of services Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Gray died Wednesday at her home in Franklin.
Mrs. Gray was born in Clarksville and had been a resident of Franklin for the past 20 years, having previously lived in Chillicothe, where she attended high school. She was employed at Ellisons Western Wear in Franklin and was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Franklin.
Survivors include her husband, Johnny Gray of Franklin; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Kari and Ronnie Rowan, Amber and Jason Clay and Evana Campbell, all of Franklin, and Christine and Vince Rodriguez of Bryan; four sons and three daughters-in-law, James and Wendy Ross and Randall and Holly Cobb, all of Franklin, Mark and Ginny Gray of Bryan and Randy Gray of College Station; her mother, Minnie Campbell of Vernon; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Virginia Hunter of Clarksville, Alice and Don Light of Childress, Eva and Roy Fisher of Chillicothe and Kay Roberts of Vernon; six brothers and two sisters-in-law, Tommy and Irene Campbell of Boyd, Jesse Campbell of Greenwood, La., Ray Campbell of Vernon, Derrell Campbell of Clarksville, Glenn and Mary Campbell of Vernon and Kent Campbell of Chillicothe; and 13 grandchildren.
