Sanford H. ‘Bob’ Davis
April 4, 1912 — Nov. 14, 2002

NAVASOTA — Services for Sanford H. “Bob” Davis, 90, of Iola are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Carlos Missionary Baptist Church.

The Rev. W.H. Richards of Bright Light Freewill Baptist Church in Harvey will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home in Navasota and from 1 p.m. to the time of services Sunday at the church.

Mr. Davis died Thursday at Colton Inn Health Center in College Station.

He was born in Brazos County and was a lifelong resident of Grimes County. He was a retired dairy farmer and was a member of United Free Will Baptist Church in Bryan.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Frances Glass Davis of Iola; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby Joe and Barrie Sue Davis of Thomaston, Sanford H. Jr. and Myrle Davis of Shreveport, La., and Danny Ray and Nancy Davis of Bryan; a brother, Bubba Butts of Carlos; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Charlotte Merryman
Sept. 22, 1951 — Nov. 11, 2002

Services for Charlotte Merryman, 51, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Grace Bible Church in College Station.

Mr. Chip Howard will officiate. Burial will be in the Rest-Ever Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mrs. Merryman died Monday in Illinois.

She was born in Bridgeport and lived in Bryan since 1985. She was a sales representative for OMC Industries.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Billie Chanda Merryman.

Survivors include her husband, Jim Merryman of Bryan; two sons and daughters-in-law, Casey and Jessica Jones of College Station and Jimi and Elizabeth Merryman of Bryan; a brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Terri Young of Fort Worth; and a grandchild.

Adelle Jones Murphy
April 5, 1923 — Nov. 14, 2002

Services for Adelle Jones Murphy, 79, of Bryan are set for 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Callaway-Jones Chapel in Bryan.

The Rev. Gary Bagley of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Latexo Cemetery in Crockett.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Murphy died Thursday in Temple.

She was born in Crockett and was a real estate broker. For many years she owned GlenDelle Realty in College Station with her first husband, Glendon Jones. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Glendon Jones and Harold Murphy; a daughter, Candice Jones; and two sons, Glynn Don Jones and Sandy Dean Jones.

Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Doris Luce of Temple; a sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Perry Barkley of Fairfield; and four grandchildren.

Harold Eugene ‘Smokie’ Swarthout
Jan. 21, 1927 — Nov. 14, 2002

BUFFALO — Services for Harold Eugene “Smokie” Swarthout, 75, of Buffalo are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Siloam Baptist Church in Buffalo.

The Rev. Kenneth Stone will officiate. Burial will be in the Siloam Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Buffalo Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Swarthout died Thursday.

He was born in Norphlet, Ark., and lived in Buffalo since 1976. He formerly lived in Houston and was a machinist for Humble Tooling. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Aileen Ridenour Swarthout of Buffalo; two sons, Larry Eugene Swarthout of Buffalo and Michael Dean Swarthout of Marquez; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Kerry Burks of Buffalo and Sandra Jean and Gary Asbridge of Waco; a brother and sister-in-law, Billy Lee and Bernice Swarthout of Franklin; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mildred and Morris Platt of Grapeland, Dorothy Murchison of Jewett and Judy and Ricky Mitschke of Splendora; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.

A. Modene Clemmer
1917 – 2002

Funeral Services for Modene Clemmer, 85, of College Station, TX will be held at Lawton-Ritter-Gray Funeral Home in Lawton, OK on Saturday, November 16, 2002 at 2:00pm.

Mrs. Clemmer, a 50 year resident of Lawton, died at her home in College Station, TX Wednesday, November 13, 2002.

She was born Annie Modene Pinkston on April 23, 1917 in Teague, TX to Thomas Jesse and Martha Pinkston. She was married to D.L. Clemmer on November 25, 1938 in Burkburnett, TX. They made their first home in Walters, OK and moved to Lawton in 1943. Mr. Clemmer died in 1993.

Mr. Clemmer was a longtime member of the Ellen H. Richards Ladies Homemaking Club. She was a member of the Lawton First Baptist Church and taught children’s Sunday School for many years.

She is survived by two daughters Beverly Clark & husband John of Minco, OK and Martha Banks and her husband Philip of College Station, TX, a son Bob Clemmer and his wife Sue of Lawton, eight Grandchildren and nine Great-Grandchildren, two sisters Gladys Teal of Ft. Worth, TX and Lela Mae Kehl of Yuma, AZ, many nieces and nephews in addition to her beloved caregivers.

A sister and a grandson, as well as her husband of 55 years preceded her in death.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of America.

Gertrude Marie Huf-Krise
April 24, 1917 — November 15, 2002

Services for Gertrude Marie Krise, age 85, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Monday November 18, 2002 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan, with Msgr. John McCaffrey officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Mission Park South in San Antonio, Texas.

Mrs. Krise was born April 24, 1917 in Wiesbaden, Germany, and has lived in Bryan since 1952. She was the former owner of Black Forest Inn in Carlos and later opened Black Forest Confection Connection in Bryan. Gertrude graduated from Texas A&M University with her bachelor’s degree in Modern Language. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan.

Gertrude is survived by her husband, George Krise of Bryan; son and daughter-in-law, Michael Klaus and Ursula Adam of Killeen, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Bill Mains of San Antonio, Texas; sister, Rose Marie Schafer of Bad Abling, Germany; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Hans Adam; and a son, Hans John Adam.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan.

William Ellison
May 11, 1919 — Nov. 16, 2002

FRANKLIN — Services for William Ellison, 83, of Franklin are set for 3 p.m. Monday at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church near Franklin.

C.E. Barnett will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 5 to 8 p.m., and from 9 a.m. to noon Monday at McCauley Funeral Home in Franklin.

Mr. Ellison died Saturday in Bryan.

He was a lifelong resident of Franklin and was retired from GATX after 30 years of service. He served in the Italy/European theaters during World War II and was a member of the VFW. He was a Baptist.

He was preceded in death by a son, James Ellison.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Connie Ellison and Carlton Scott of Pflugerville; a son and daughter-in-law, Henry and Elaine Ellison of Hearne; two sisters, Hilda Merryman and Melba Coe, both of Bryan; two brothers, Norman Ellison of Bryan and A.J. Ellison of Hearne; and two grandchildren.

Ruth Pipes
May 9, 1934 — Nov. 14, 2002

CENTERVILLE — Services for Ruth Pipes, 68, of Concord are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Walters Funeral Home Chapel in Centerville.

The Rev. Cliff Lamb will officiate. Burial will be in the Concord Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to the time of services Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Pipes died Thursday in Weatherford.

She was born in Dallas, grew up in Lovelady and attended Sam Houston State University. She was a school teacher and taught in Bellvile, High Island, Beaumont, Palestine, Madisonville and Tennessee Colony. She retired in 1989. She was a Methodist and served as pianist for many of the churches she was a member. She also taught piano lessons for many years. She was also a member of a square dance club.

Survivors include her husband, Billie Cale Pipes of Concord; two daughters and sons-in-law, Perri Pipes and William Pool of Plano and Kelly Pipes and Jack Bruner of Millsap; and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Ima Batson Tomlinson
April 18, 1903 — Nov. 16, 2002

NORMANGEE — Services for Ima Batson Tomlinson, 99, of Normangee are set for 1:30 p.m. Monday at Harmony Baptist Church in Normangee.

Bro. M.L. Magee of Harmony Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Ten Mile Cemetery in Madison County.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Cozart Funeral Home in Normangee.

Mrs. Tomlinson died Saturday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in the Mecca community of Madison County and was a lifelong resident of Normangee. She was retired from the grocery business and was a member of Harmony Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Tomlinson.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bill T. and Marie Tomlinson of Bryan; a daughter and son-in-law, Ima Jeane and Charles Franklin of Austin; a sister, Ruth Martin of Normangee; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
