James W. ‘Sandy’ Sanders

Graveside services for James W.“Sandy” Sanders, 80, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at College Station Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.
Mr. Sanders died Monday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.
He was born in Crews and lived in Bryan for 13 years. He was a retired iron worker.
Mr. Sanders was a member of the Iron Workers Union, the Scottish Rite Free Masonry for more than 50 years, Adam Royder Lodge No. 778 and the Reagan Lodge No. 1037. Mr. Sanders also was a member of the Houston Arabia Temple. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Callie J. Sanders of Bryan; a brother and sister-in-law, Monroe and Joyce Sanders of Lake Jackson; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Charles and Beverly Sanders of Fort Worth and Larry and Alice Cothran of Dallas; a sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Tommy Brown of Houston; and a sister-in-law, a Minnie Chapman of Midland.

Billie Raymond

Graveside services for Billie Raymond, 87, of Bryan and formerly of Houston are set for 11 a.m. Thursday at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.
The Rev. Bob Richers of First United Methodist Church in Bryan will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.
Mrs. Raymond died Wednesday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan.
She was born in Houston and was a secretary for Harris County commissioners for 34 years. She lived in Bryan for the past 21 years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church there.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W.H. Raymond.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Andrea Raymond of Rockdale; and three grandchildren.

Vernon Davis Anderson
March 17, 1934 — Nov. 5, 2002
ODESSA — Services for Vernon Davis Anderson, 68, of Odessa are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at West University Church of Christ in Odessa.
Roy D. Jones will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
Mr. Anderson died Tuesday.
He was born in Hyman and graduated from Grandfalls-Royalty High School in 1952, and earned a bachelor of science degree from Texas A&M University. Most of his adult life was spent in Bryan, where he was a CPA serving as the treasurer of General Security Life Insurance Co.
He was an active member of West University Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sisters, Anita Love of Odessa and Helen Black of Grandfalls; and one brother, William Ellis Anderson of Mesquite.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to Odessa Christian School or West University Church of Christ.
Lonnie E. Turner Sr.
Aug. 31, 1948 — Nov. 1, 2002
NAVASOTA — Services for Lonnie E. Turner Sr., 54, of Navasota are set for noon Friday at Brosig Auditorium in Navasota.
The Rev. Robert Marshall will officiate. Burial will be in the Rest Haven Cemetery in Navasota.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday at Jones Funeral Home in Navasota.
Mr. Turner died Friday at his home.
He was born in Burleson County and graduated from Freeman High School, class of 1966. He attended Blinn College and Commmonwealth College of Mortuary Science of Houston.
Mr. Turner was a member of Old Melton Lodge No. 369, the Knights of Pithus, the Grimes County Progressive Association, Navasota Rattlers Booster Club, the Navasota NAACP, Christian Homeworkers Society and the Awareness Club. He was president of Freeman High Alumni Associaton, an honorary member of FFS and served on the boards of the Navasota school district, St. Joseph Hospital, the Navasota-Grimes County Lions Club, the Navasota Chamber of Commerce, First Bank of Navasota, the Community Love Society, Independent Funeral Directors Association of Texas, the Texas Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Mortician Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pattye Burrell Turner.
Survivors include his son, Lonnie E. Turner Jr. of Navasota; a daughter and son-in-law, MaCheryl and Joseph Armstrong of Angleton; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Lawson L. Turner Jr. and his wife Nan of Dallas, Westley L. Turner and Bobby G. Turner, both of Fort Worth, and Willis S. and Carolyn Turner of Duncanville; five sisters, Aquilla Turner Matthews of Fort Worth, Priscilla Turner Tolbert of Lumberton, N.C., Chauncy L. Turner of Mesquite, Frankie Turner Manning of Bellevue, Wash., and Lillie A. Turner of Dallas; his mother, Mary Elizabeth Noble Turner of Caldwell; and one grandchild.
Dora Mae Franks

HOUSTON — Services for Dora Mae Franks, 72, of Houston are set for 11 a.m. Friday at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Somerville.
The Rev. Don Laird will officiate. Burial will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery in Somerville.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 8:30 a.m. to the time of services Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Franks died Tuesday at her home.
She was born in Somerville. She was retired from Texas Instruments and was a member of the Sons of Hermann Edelweiss Lodge.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Howard Franks.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Sonny Skinner of Katy; two sisters, Doris Baker and Pauline Thomas; and two grandchildren.
Julia Bass Wallace

Services for Julia Bass Wallace, 85, of College Station are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in College Station.
Dr. Bruce Wood will officiate. Burial will be in the College Station Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station.
Mrs. Wallace died Monday at Denton Community Hospital. She was born in Whitesboro and lived in College Station since 1983. She was a resident at Colton Inn Geriatric Center. After attending Texas Wesleyan College in Fort Worth, she attended the Metropolitan Business College in Dallas. She was a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William Robert Wallace.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Bill Hedderman of College Station; a sister-in-law, Janice Bass of Whitesboro; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church Prayer Garden Fund or the American Cancer Society.
Bobby Joe Phillips

Services for Bobby Joe Phillips, 56, of Bryan are set for noon Saturday at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
Rev. James Williams of Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday at Daniel & Son Funeral Home and 8 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. A wake service fwill be conducted at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday.
Mr. Phillips died Saturday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.
A lifelong resident of Bryan, he attended Texas Southern University and belonged to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He served in U.S. Army and was a member of the Disabled American Veteran Association.
Survivors include three daughters, Dr. Tanyanika Phillips Reine and husband Brian of Nashville, Tenn., and Minister Stephanie Love and Kimberly Reed, both of Bryan; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Leroy and Rose Sterling of Huntsville, Ala., Willie and Luberta Phillips of Houston, Dr. Calvin Phillips of Madison Heights, Mich., Charles and Emma Sterling of Bryan and James and Ruth Sterling of Indianapolis, Ind.; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Lisa Phillips Moore of Lubbock, Willie Mae Jenkins-Gregg and husband Curtis of Bryan, Eddie Mae Phillips Council and husband Thomas of Bryan, Rosetta Phillips Thomas and husband LaVaughn of Caldwell and Alberta Phillips Peterson and husband, J.C. of Fort Worth; his mother, Mattie Lee Phillips of Bryan; and three grandchildren.

Larey Nelson Kieke

BRENHAM — Services for Larey Nelson Kieke, 91, of Brenham are set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Brenham. Dr. Wesley Wellborn will officiate. Burial will be in the Prairie Lea Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.
Mr. Kieke died Wednesday in Brenham.
He was born in Burton and retired after 43 years of teaching at the Harmon & Greenvine Schools, Burton High School and Blinn College. He graduated from Blinn and received a bachelor of science degree from Sam Houston State University and master of education degree from Texas A&M University. He was a member of the First United Methodist Chureh in Brenham, where he was active in United Methodist Men and Wesley Sunday school class. He was also a member of La Bahia Turn Verein and Retired Teachers of Texas.
Survivors include his wife, Ida May Fuchs Kieke of Brenham; a son, Llewellyn Kieke of Brenham; a son and daughter-in-law, Mauriello and Peggy Lynn Kieke of Monroe, N.J.; a sister, Bernice Kay of Brenham; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
Rev. John Henry Smith
July 12, 1912 - November 2, 2002
CENTERVILLE — Services for Rev. John Henry Smith, 90, of Centerille are set for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Regular New Home District Association Tabernacle in Centerville.
Rev. Herman West, moderator for the New Home District Association will officiate. Burial will be in the Burton Cemetery in southeastern Leon County. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Walters Funeral Home in Centerville and from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Rev. Smith died Saturday in Centerville.
He was born in Flynn and lived in Wichita Falls for 20 years before moving back to Leon County. Rev. Smith worked in the construction business for many years, helping to build Interstate 45. He was employed as a bridge constructor for Mr. Joe Lee Thomason in Centerville.
Rev. Smith was a pastor for four churches during his life: Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Leona, Mt. Oliver Baptist Church in Jewett, Cedar Baptist Church in Buffalo and Bloom of Life Church in Madisonville. Rev. Smith was a member of the Mt. Calm Pine Top Baptist Church in Centerville and served as a missionary in the Leona District Association.
Survivors include his wife, Josie Lee Smith of Leona; two stepsons, Theoda Rinehart of Dallas and Pharoah Rinehart of Whichita, Kan.; a stepdaughter, Doris Nell Wynn of Dallas; six step-grandchildre and a host of step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren.
