Charles Arthur Tisdale

MADISONVILLE — Services for Charles Arthur Tisdale, 65, of Madisonville are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Evans Chapel Methodist Church in Leona.
Dr. Jerry House Sr. of the First United Methodist Church in Crockett, the Rev. Anthony Cecil of First United Methodist Church in Centerville and Dr. Morris House, retired Methodist minister, will officiate. Burial will be in the Evans Chapel Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Madisonville Funeral Home.
Mr. Tisdale died Wednesday at his residence.
Mr. Tisdale was born in Leona. He graduated from Centerville High School, attended Texas A&M University and graduated from Sam Houston State University. Mr. Tisdale worked at Houston Packing Co., Lone Star Packing Co. and Hygrade Food Products as a cattle buyer for many years.
He was a real estate broker and land developer for more than 30 years and owned Tisdale Development and Tisdale Real Estate Company. Mr. Tisdale was a life member of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo and was on the calf scramble committee for many years.
Survivors include his wife, May Tisdale of Madisonville; his mother, Johnnie Rhae Tisdale of Leona; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Kent Harger of Huntsville, Connie and Frank Kelly and Carolyn and Paul Bailey, all of Madisonville; a brother, Walter Ray Tisdale of Leona; a sister, Frances Frenzel of Madisonville; five grandchildren and nine nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Evans Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund, c/o Lou Ellen Hassold, 8167 C.R. 410, Normangee, Texas 77871; the American Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
Anita Kerbow
Feb. 27, 1916 — Dec. 17, 2002
SOMERVILLE — Services for Anita Kerbow, 86, of Somerville are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville.
Burial will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 8:30 a.m. to the time of services Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Kerbow died Tuesday at her residence.
She was born in Houston and was the owner of a retail orthopedic shoestore until her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her husband, F. Leonard Kerbow. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Larry Childers of Somerville.
Richard Q. Foote

NAVASOTA — Services for Richard Q. Foote, 76, of Navasota are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.
The Rev. Fred Seay of First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Foote died Wednesday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.
Mr. Foote was born in Caddo. He was a retired geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Surve and a member of the Navasota Kiwanis Club and American Association of Petroleum Geologists. He was an aviation cadet and served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Lynn Foote of Navasota; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Paulette Dunigan of Tampa, Fla.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jan and Kurt Foote Richter of Missourii City and Jill and Adiel Foote Eshkenazi of Bellaire; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Frederick Foote III and John Thurman Sr. and Dorothy Foote; a sister, Wallace Daniel of Turnersville; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Janet Lane Jahnsen
Feb. 7, 1957 — Dec. 13, 2002
A memorial service for Janet Lane Jahnsen, 45, of Bryan is set for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Bryan.
The Rev. Neil Bockelmann will officiate. Burial was Monday in Kneupper Cemetery.
Mrs. Jahnsen died Friday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.
She was born in Johnson City and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, David Jahnsen of Bryan; her parents, Olan and Dolly Kneupper of Kendalia; a brother and sister-in-law, Wray Olan and Diana Kneupper of New Braunfels; a sister, Nola Kneupper of Johnson City; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Mary Jane Jahnsen of Bulverde; a father-in-law, Earl Jahnsen and his wife, Zada, of Bulverde; two nephews; and three nieces.

Melvin R. “Shorty” Sheffield

Melvin R. “Shorty” Sheffield, 74, passed away on December 16, 2002 in Bryan, Texas. Mr. Sheffield was born on September 6, 1928 in Normangee, Texas. He served as Corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War. In 1960, he moved his family to Houston and retired from Brown & Root after over twenty years of service. In 1986 he went to work for the MSC Bookstore and retired from Texas A&M after ten years.
Mr. Sheffield is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jean Sheffield of Bryan, son & daughter-in-law, Larry & Nary Ann Sheffield of Austin, two Grandchildren, Joseph and Jason Sheffield of Bryan, sister & brother-in-law, Glynora & Pete Pachall and Maurine West all of Bryan, brother & sister-in-law, Vivian C. “Skip” & Lucille L. Sheffield of Houston and sister-in-law, Corena Sheffield of Bryan, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation is scheduled from 5-9pm Wednesday in the Hillier Funeral Home, Bryan, Texas and from 12:30-1:30pm Thursday in the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Deanville.
Funeral Services will be at 1:30pm Thursday in the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Deanville with Reverend Terry Bage officiating. Interment will be at 3:30pm Thursday in the Vogelsang Cemetery in Milam County.
August A. Lenert, Jr.
Lt. Col., U.S.A.F., Retired
August A. Lenert, Jr., 80, of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida died Sunday, December 15, 2002 in a local hospital. He was born on April 21, 1922 in Bryan, Texas to Dr. August A. and Isobel Vaughn Lenert, Sr. He was an Aeronautical Engineer, and graduated from Texas A&M University. He was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Ft. Walton Beach, and retired from the United States Air Force and Civil Service. He lived in Ft. Walton Beach since 1943, and was one of the first individuals of the original group of ordained deacons at the First Baptist Church. He served both as Sunday School Superintendent and church training director for a number of years.
Mr. Lenert was also actively involved in the Choctaw Baptist Association, having served as Associational Moderator as well as Annuity Advisor. He was a member of the Ft. Walton Beach Lions Club where he served as past president. He was honored by the club for his 40 years as Secretary and Treasurer, and was awarded the Melvin Jones Award by the Lions International Club. He held membership in the Playground Mutual Concert Association, serving as president for several years. He was active in the organizational years of the Guidance Clinic, now known as Bridgeway Center. Growth of Camellias was a special interest to him and he served as president of show chairman at various times of the Camellias Society. He was a veteran of WWII, and Korea.
Survivors include his wife Cleota Lenert, of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; daughter Earl Ann Bumpus and her husband Dr. Mark Bumpus of Mineral Wells, TX; sister Mary Frances Swatzell of Graham, TX. He is also survived by grandchildren Katy and Marshall Bumpus of Mineral Wells, TX and several nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Rosemary Anderson.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 6:00 pm Wednesday at McLaughlin Mortuary. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm Thursday, December 19, 2002 in the First Baptist Church, with Dr. Howard Gates, and Dr. Mark Bumpus officiating. Burial will be in the Brooks Cemetery with full Military Honors. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lions Club members and deacons of the First Baptist Church. Flowers are welcomed, or memorials may be made to The Lions Club Foundation for the Blind, or the First Baptist Church of Ft. Walton Beach, FL.

Mary Ella Pope

CALVERT — Services for Mary Ella Pope, 66, of Calvert are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Calvert.
The Rev. Robert Wilson of St. Mark Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Mount Olive Baptist Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Peoples Mortuary in Bryan.
Mrs. Pope died Tuesday at Calvert Nursing Home.
A lifelong resident of Calvert, she was a nurse’s aide and a member of the choir and mission board at Mount Olive Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Charles and Willie Pope of Calvert; two daughters, Ethel Washington of Wellborn and Beatrice Pope of Newport News, Va.; two brothers, Leonard Pope of Dallas and Roger Davis of Hearne; and five grandchildren.
Cassie Robertson

BENCHLEY — Services for Cassie Robertson, 89, of Benchley are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Zion Baptist Church.
The Rev. J.T. Evans will officiate. Burial will be in Walker Settlement Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Jones-Washington Mortuary.
Mrs. Robertson died Monday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.
She was born in Robertson County and lived in Benchley for 20 years. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Robertson.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, R.L. and Martha Robertson of Benchley; two daughters, Velma Dunn and Elizabeth Mitchell of Bryan; a sister, Willie Taylor of Bryan; 15 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Audrey Swann

Services for Audrey Swann, 45, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Wesley United Methodist Church in Bryan.

Mrs. Swann died Sunday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.
She was born in Houston and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Jerome Ciolino of Bryan; a daughter, Christy Clark of Humble; two sons, Ian Velarde of Fort Worth and Grant Velarde of Bryan; and two sisters, Sheila Mills and Sherly Eaton of Bryan.
Herbert Lee Midkiff

BILOXI, Miss. — Services for Herbert Lee Midkiff, 67, of Biloxi, Miss. are set for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Madisonville Funeral Home.
The Rev. Mike Midkiff will officiate. Burial will be in the Bedias Baptist Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to the time of services Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Midkiff died Tuesday in Mississippi.
Born in Bedias, he was a career serviceman with the U.S. Air Force, and served more than 20 years. After his retirement he moved to Mississippi. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Bobby Zangarine of Rochester, Minn.; a son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Su Midkiff of Lufkin; a sister and brother-in-law, Hilda and Floyd Adams of Centerville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Harlin R. and Joan Midkiff of Hawkins and Harold G. and LaJuana Midkiff of Yantis; two aunts; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
