Uda Maud (Bichard) Carre

Uda Maud (Bichard) Carre passed away on March 7, 2005 at Happy Harbor Methodist Home in La Porte, TX. She would have been 100 years old on March 14. She was most recently a resident of Page Mobile Village, Fort Myers, FL and was also a resident of Princeton, NJ for over 40 years. Born on the island of Guernsey, Channel Islands, England in 1905, she was the daughter of John and Edith (Martin) Bichard. She came to the United States in 1927 with her husband, Harry Carre, to begin a life of dairy farming with Guernsey cows. They ultimately settled in Princeton, NJ with their two daughters.

She was proud of her family, her Guernsey heritage (she never lost her British accent), her membership in Trinity Episcopal Church in Princeton for 40 years, and her volunteer work at Merwick Nursing Home in Princeton from the time it opened until 1976. She enjoyed tending her beautiful vegetable and flower gardens. She also developed a talent for oil painting. In her later years, especially after her husband passed away in 1976, she enjoyed spending as much time as possible in Florida. She spent the last 25 years with her special friend and partner, T. Merl Kincaid of Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada, who predeceased her in November 2004. Up until July 2004, they divided their time between Florida and Canada, an arrangement made possible through the special efforts of her daughter, P.C., other family members, and many wonderful friends.

One of the secrets to her longevity was her sense of humor, which she maintained throughout her life, despite enduring her share of heartbreak and tragedy. In addition to her parents, her husband, and her partner, she was predeceased by her daughter, Betty Carre, in 1953, her sisters Anne LeParmentier and Lillian Brouard, and her brother, John Bichard.

She is survived by her daughter, P.C. and husband Chris Christensen of Baytown, TX; granddaughter Amy Christensen and husband Bill Meehan of Tyrone, NY; grandson Timothy and wife Melissa Christensen of Baytown, TX; great-grandson Kyle Meehan Christensen of Tyrone, NY; great-grandchildren Hannah, Dylan and Kara Christensen of Baytown, TX; niece Dorothy and husband Dudley Haines of Fort Myers, FL; niece Eileen Keen of Guernsey, C.I., England; nieces Jan and husband David Mauger of Guernsey; Sadie and husband Peter Morgan of Guernsey; Carol and husband Peter Stewart of Lions Head, Ontario, Canada; special friends Jean Losby and Chuck Frion of Fort Myers, FL; May Childs of Richmond Hill, Ontario; and Greg and Betty Smith of Richmond Hill, Ontario.

Her family is grateful for the wonderful care she received in the last year and a half of her life from home health aides in Fort Myers and Richmond Hill and from the staff at Happy Harbor Methodist Home. Funeral service and burial at Princeton Cemetery will be private. Arrangements are by Kimble Funeral Home, Princeton.

Memorial donations may be made to the local Salvation Army or to Trinity Episcopal Church, 33 Mercer St., Princeton, NJ 08540.
