Raymond J. Vajdak

SNOOK —Raymond J. Vajdak, 78, of Snook are set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Caldwell.
The Rev. John Gantt of Hope Evngelical Free Church in College Station will officiate. Burial will be in the Snook Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to the time of services Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Vajdak died Wednesday in Sugarland.
Born in Snook, he was a member of the Burleson County Czech Heritage Museum and Marion Mays Post No. 455 of the American Legion and was a Mason. Mr. Vajdak was a member of Hope Evangelical Free Church in College Station.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes Hanacik Vajdak of Snook; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Gale Beardmore of Houston; and one granddaughter.Death Notice
Helen Davis, 94, of Bryan died Thursday.
Arrangements are pending with Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.

Services for Helen Davis, 93, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Monday at the Allen Chapel AME Church in Bryan.
The Rev. Fred Blair of Allen Chapel AME Church will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.
Mrs. Davis died Thursday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.
She was a lifelong resident of Bryan and was a member of Allen Chapel AME Church, where she was on the steward’s board. She worked as a domestic.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Campbell.
Survivors include a brother, Merion Ellis of Bryan; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Jacob Lance Holstine

ROCKDALE — Memorial services for Jacob Lance Holstine, 29, of Rockdale are set for 1 p.m. Sunday at the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.
The Rev. Rick Spencer will officiate.
Visitation will be from noon to the time of services Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Holstine died Wednesday in the North Austin Medical Center.
He was born in Sandwich, Ill., and lived in Rockdale for 22 years. He worked as a sales clerk at the Wal-Mart in Rockdale for nine years and was a Boy Scout.
Survivors include his parents, Bernie L. and Susan Ann Holstine of Rockdale; a brother and sister-in-law, Jason and LaBonna Holstine of Rockdale; 15 aunts and uncles; three nieces; a nephew; and numerous cousins.

Robert Eugene ‘Gene’ Lummus

BUFFALO — Services for Robert Eugene “Gene” Lummus, 74, of Buffalo are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Buffalo Funeral Home Chapel.
The Rev. Kenneth Stone, pastor of the Flo Community Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Lummus Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to the time of services Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Lummus died Thursday in the Buffalo Nursing Home.
He was born in Keechi and was a lifelong resident of Buffalo. He was a janitor in the Buffalo public schools and was a member of the Flo community Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Lummus.
Survivors include a son, Robert Lummus of Buffalo; a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and John Lapcsik of Buffalo; a sister, Martha Milton of Buffalo; and two grandsons.
Clifford ‘C.L.’ Utsey Jr.

CARROLLTON — Services for Clifford “C.L.” Utsey Jr., 71, of Carrollton are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Valwood Baptist Church in Farmer’s Branch.
Burial will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Tryon Cemetery in Kurten.
Arrangements are under the direction of Metrocrest Funeral Home in Carrollton.
Mr. Utsey died Thursday.
He was born in North Zulch.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Utsey; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Rex Utsey, Morris and Julie Utsey and Russell and Cindy Utsey; a daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and John Lendo; special family members, Clint Whatley and Denise Cervenka; a sister, Marie Richards; a brother, Cecil Utsey; seven grandchildren; a great-grandson; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Norman Joel Smith
Jan. 12, 1937 — Jan. 17, 2003
Services for Norman Joel Smith, 66, of Arnold, Md., are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Astin Chapel of the Bryan City Cemetery.
The Rev. Morris House will officiate. Burial will be in the Bryan City Cemetery.
Local arrangements are under the direction of Hillier Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith died Jan. 17 at his home.
He was born in Stephenville and graduated from Texas A&M University in 1959 with a degree in electrical engineering. In 1966 he earned his master’s degree in electrical engineering from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. He was a lieutenant in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1962.
He worked 35 years as an engineer and engineering manager at Westinghouse Electric Corp. in Linthicum. In September 2002 he earned the level of life master from the American Contract Bridge Association.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine “Kakey” Griffin Smith of Arnold; a son and daughter-in-law, Davis and Amanda Smith of Cottage Grove, Ore.; a daughter, Stephanie Smith of Aiken, S.C.; his mother-in-law, Francis Griffin Foster of Bryan; and a sister, Mariella Smith Morgan, of Temple.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Valley.
Lillie ‘Lady’ Cook
March 9, 1914 — Jan. 23, 2003
Services for Lillie “Lady” Cook, 88, of Sugar Land and formerly of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Monday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.
The Rev. Philip McLarty of the First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Bryan City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to the time of services Monday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Cook died Thursday in Sugar Land.
She was born in Benchley and lived most of her life in Bryan before moving to Sugar Land. She was a homemaker and was a charter member of the Robert Henry Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the L.S. Ross Chapter of U.D.C, the Active Circle Bible Club and the Evening Study Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Benton Cook.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Shelia Cook of Beaumont; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Tyrrell Buckley of Houston; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
Lydia Siptak Rode

CALDWELL — Services for Lydia Siptak Rode, 86, of Austin are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the New Tabor Brethren Church near Caldwell.
The Revs. Henry Beseda and John Baletka will officiate. Burial will be in the New Tabor Cemetery.

Mrs. Rode died Friday in Treemont Healthcare Center in Houston.
She was born in Caldwell and lived in Austin 60 years. She earned a bachelor of science degree in Elementary Education from the University of Texas in Austin and taught in Burleson County and Austin 31 years. She was a member of University United Methodist Church in Austin.
Survivors include her husband, Leonard J. Rode of Austin; a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Steve Schaeffer of Houston; two sisters-in-law, Gerry Siptak and Betty Siptak, both of Caldwell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
