DALLAS — Services for Edward Wadsworth Douglas III, 52, of Dallas are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Ruby’s Chapel at Jones-Washington Mortuary.
The Rev. Larry T. Hall of Shiloh Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.
Mr. Douglas died Friday at his home. He was born in San Francisco and lived in Dallas for three years. He worked for Resource Concepts Computer Salvaging Co. He attended Berkeley High School and Contra Costa College. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include a daughter, Nicole Douglas of Oakland, Calif.; a sister, Valerie Douglas of Dallas; his mother, Virginia P. Douglas of Dallas; his grandmother, Willie Mae Douglas of San Francisco; and two grandchildren.
Willie Lee Brown II

Memorial services for the Rev. Willie Lee Brown II, 35, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Ruby’s Chapel at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.
The Rev. Dr. W.W. Jackson Jr. of Mount Paran Missionary Baptist Church in Texas City will officiate.
The Rev. Brown died Friday in Bryan.
He was born in Austin and lived in Bryan for the past three years, where he was employed by The Greenery. He graduated from Austin public schools.
The Rev. Brown was a gospel radio announcer in Austin, Dallas and Bryan and was a member and road manager of the Original Soul Invaders of Brenham. He was a member of the Texas Gospel Announcers Guild and belonged to Mount Paran church.
Survivors include his wife, Ondria Latriece Mitchell-Brown of Bryan; a son, Willie Lee Brown III of Austin; a sister, Glenda Jean Brown of Bryan; and his parents, Dr. Willie Lee Brown Sr. and Ethel Brown of Dallas.
Maralyn Newbanks
March 21, 1933 — Jan. 7, 2003
Services for Maralyn Newbanks, 69, of Bryan will be held at a later date in Illinois.
A memorial gathering will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Chicken Oil Co., 3600 S. College Ave., in Bryan.
Mrs. Newbanks died Tuesday. Born in Pana, Ill., she was a clerk for Lancome Cosmetics. She was a Presbyterian.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Sylvester.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bradley and Carleen Newbanks of Niantica, Ill.; two daughters, Lu Davidson of Roanoke, Va., and Bunni Longwell of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two sisters, Katie Miles of Pana, Ill., and Barbara LaDuke of Chicago; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Willie F. Mahaffey

Graveside services for Willie F. Mahaffey, 72, of Bryan are set for 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Wheelock Cemetery.
The Rev. Kenneth Rosier will officiate.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.
Mr. Mahaffey died Thursday at Sherwood Health Care.
He was a lifelong resident of Brazos County and was a rancher and member of VFW Post No. 4692. He served in the U.S. Marines and was a member of Wheelock Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Mahaffey of Bryan; four daughters, Ann Freeman of Fort Worth, and Carolyn Francis, Norma Johnston and Linda Francis, all of Bryan; two sons, Jerry Johnston, and Thomas Johnston, both of Bryan; a brother, Russell Mahaffey of College Station; a sister, Lois Overall of College Station; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Stacy Lorenzo Mendez

HOUSTON — Services for Stacy Lorenzo Mendez, 27, of Houston and formerly of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Monsignor John McCaffrey will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Mendez died Tuesday in Houston.
He was born and lived most of his life in Bryan. He was an altar boy at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in his youth. He played soccer in city league and for Bryan High School. He was the owner of S.L.M. Construction in Houston. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include his fiancee, Samantha Valle of Houston; two stepsons, Nicolas and Jay Valle of Houston; his parents, Robert and Lupe A. Mendez of College Station and Theresa Alvarez Mendez of Bryan; a brother, Steven Patrick Mendez of Conroe; two stepbrothers and a sister-in-law, Julian Sanchez Jr. and Samuel and Lisa Sanchez, all of Navasota; a stepsister and brother-in-law, Jennifer and David Ramirez of Navasota; his grandmother, Guadalupe Mendez of College Station; and one nephew.
Bernice Virginia Gerke

HEARNE — Graveside services for Bernice Virginia Gerke, 74, of Hearne are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Norwood Cemetery.
The Rev. Larry Blackmon of First Baptist Church in Hearne will officiate.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Heartfield Funeral Home in Hearne.
Mrs. Gerke died Wednesday in Deer Park.
She was born in Milam County and was a longtime resident of Hearne. She was a housewife.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fritz Gerke.
Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Otis Cleveland and Kathy Gallaway of Deer Park, Robert Carl and Carlon Gerke of Bryan, and Ralph Lee Gerke of Minnesota; a daughter and son-in-law, Bruce and Evelyn Kaye Murphy of Minnesota; two brothers, Thomas Jackson Rogers of Cuero and Benny Earl Rogers of Rockdale; a sister, Betty Lou Brown of Rockdale; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Woodie Bonita Jones

NAVASOTA — Services for Woodie Bonita Jones, 92, of Navasota are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Friendship Baptist Church in Navasota.
The Rev. Alvertise Bowdre of Church of Christ in Navasota will officiate. Burial will be in the Rest Haven Cemetery in Navasota.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home Chapel.
Mrs. Jones died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
She was born in Mexia and was a retired funeral director and school teacher. She was a graduate of Dunbar High School in Mexia and Bishop College in Marshall with a bachelor of arts degree in education. She also studied at Colorado A&M University at Fort Collins., Colo.
She was the founder of Jones Funeral Homes and taught school at Kate Long School in Mexia from 1930 to 1939 and Freeman High School in Caldwell. She was a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Associaton, the Christian Homeworkers Assocation, the NAACP and the Church of Christ on Texas 6 in Navasota. She was president of the Grimes County Progressive Association and founder of Bonita Burial and Madison Mutual Burial Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gus Jones.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Alice Ford of Beaumont; and two nephews.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Moore Sr. of Independence; three daughters, Mary Moore and Cora Lott, both of Brenham, and Anna Lott of Dickerson; six sons, Jerry Moore Jr., Howard Moore, Earnest Moore, Mark Moore and Darrel Moore, all of Brenham, and Eddie Moore of Fort Worth; one sister; three brothers; 25 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.
