Herschel Joseph Simmons

Services for Herschel Joseph Simmons, 89, of College Station are set for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Rogers-Atkins Funeral Home in Salem, Ill. Burial will be in the Memorial Garden in Mount Vernon, Ill.
Local arrangements are under the direction of Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.
Mr. Simmons died Tuesday at Bryton Inn Health Center.
He was born in Texaco, Ill., and was a retired nurseryman. He was of the Southern Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Myra Simmons, and his second wife, Helen Simmons.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Ray Woodward of College Station; a brother and sister-in-law, Chester and Dot Simmons of Jacksonville, Fla.; three grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Marion Beran

CALDWELL — Graveside services for Marion Beran, 75, of Caldwell are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
The Rev. Dimitrij Colankin will officiate.
Visitation will be from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell. Mr. Beran died Tuesday at his home.
A lifelong resident of Burleson County, he was retired from Coca-Cola Distributing. He was a U.S. Army veteran and member of VFW Post No. 4458 and was also a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Don and Mary Beran of Hawaii; a sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Forest Fortenberry of Texas City; and one niece.
Mattie Ella Wallin
Sept. 15, 1908 — Jan. 8, 2003
Graveside services for Mattie Ella Wallin, 94, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Friday at Carr Cemetery in Cooks Point.
The Rev. Chris Osborne of Central Baptist Church will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan.
Miss Wallin died Wednesday at Sherwood Health Center.
She was born in the Steele Store community in Brazos County. Miss Wallin earned her master’s degree in primary education at Southwest Texas State in San Marcos. She was a first-grade teacher, starting her career in the Steele Store community and later teaching for many years in the Alvin school district. She moved back to Bryan following her retirement. She was a member of Central Baptist Church.
Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Pauline Wallin of Terrell; numerous nieces; and a nephew.
Memorials may be made to the Central Baptist Church, 600 S. Coulter Drive, Bryan, Texas 77803 or to a charity of choice.
Arlene Steed Nixon
1910 – 2002
Arlene Steed Nixon went to be with her Lord and Savior December 30, 2002. Her family requests the presence of friends for a Graveside Service at 11:00 am Saturday in the Restever Memorial Park with Dr. Tim Owens of First Baptist Church of Bryan officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hillier Funeral Home.
She was born in Van Zandt County, Texas to Lee & Florence Taylor Steed of Canton, Texas and the granddaughter of Mr. & Mrs. Jess Taylor of Van Zandt County and whose parents came to Texas in the 1830’s.
Arlene was a graduate of Canton High School and North Texas State Normal College. She lived in Denton, Texas for 25 years and in Bryan for the past 67 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bryan for 60 years and a Sunday School and Choir member for over 40 years. She was a member of the Woman’s Club for fifty years and held the office of President in 1957 & 1969, Bryan Garden Club (Past President 1953), and was instrumental in the establishment of The Girls Club of Brazos County, served as Past President and was on the Board of Directors for over 20 years. She earned the “Outstanding Older Texan Award” of recognition from Governor Clements in the 1980’s.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Angus Gray “Nick” Nixon. Her survivors include a daughter & son-in-law, Sharlene Nixon Allday and husband Jack Allday, a sister, Marcy Allen Toalson of Bryan and two Grandchildren, angus Taylor Allday and wife Brynn Allday of Dallas and Meridith Allday Spence and husband Andrew Spence of Atlanta, Georgia, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Paul Allen Edwards

Services for Paul Allen Edwards, 72, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Bruce M. Wood will officiate. Burial will be in the Rest-Ever Memorial Park.
Mr. Edwards died Tuesday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.
He was born in Indianapolis and lived in Bryan for the past 12 years. He was an electrician.
Mr. Edwards was a member of the American Legion Post No. 159, American Disabled Veterans and Aldersgate Church. He retired as a master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force after 21 years, serving during the Korean and Vietnam wars.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Edwards of Bryan; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Tami Edwards Jr. of Caldwell; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Donald Holder of Fairland, Ind., and Pamela and Thomas Beltrand of College Station; a brother, Raymond Eugene Edwards of Greenwood, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Rodger Q. Williams

LINDALE — Services for Rodger Q. Williams, 76, of Lindale are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.
The Rev. David Powell will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home in Lindale.
Mr. Williams died Wednesday in Tyler.
He was born in Graham and was a Realtor and broker. He was a member of the Mount Sylvan T. R. Bonner Masonic Lodge and Lindale First United Methodist Church. He served in the Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Marie Williams of Lindale; a son, Chris Williams of Lindale; a brother, Roy Whatley Williams of Conroe; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Wadie B. Young Williams

NAVASOTA — Services for Wadie B. Young Williams, 93, of Navasota are set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Lee Tabernacle United Methodist Church in Navasota.
The Rev. Kamamba Kiboko will officiate. Burial will be in the Dennis Bryant Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home in Navasota.
Mrs. Williams died Friday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.
She was born in Navasota and lived there for the past 15 years. She was a clerical secretary for the federal government and attended Navasota public schools and Houston Business College. She was a member of the Lee Tabernacle United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nolan Williams. Survivors include a daughter, Doris M. Johnson of Navasota; and four great-grandchildren.
Merle Arnold Evans

BRENHAM — Services for Merle Arnold Evans, 97, of Brenham are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church in Brenham.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.
Mrs. Evans died Wednesday in Brenham. She was born in Houston and was a retired secretary. She attended Draughon’s Business College in Houston and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Brenham.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Temple Evans.
Survivors include a sister, Louise Arnold Jones of Brenham; a daughter-in-law, Marion Hamilton Evans of Houston; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Frankie Lou Mason Magness

BEDIAS— Services for Frankie Lou Mason Magness, 87, of Bedias are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Bedias.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Magness died Wednesday.
She was born in Lawsonville and was the head cashier for the Rice Hotel in Houston for 30 years until retiring. She was a longtime member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary Post No. 84 of Madisonville and Post No. 146 of Iola.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Sherriee Magness of Iola; a daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Nick Nichols of Bryan; a daughter-in-law, Lavon Westbrook of Smithville; and a sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Troyce Roarke of Nacogdoches.
Celia Marie Rayford

Services for Celia Marie Rayford, 56, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church.
The Rev. S.E. Taplin will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.
Mrs. Rayford died Tuesday at her home.
She was a lifelong resident of Bryan and member of New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Tommie Lee Rayford of Bryan; two sons and a daughter-in-law, David Rayford of Bryan and Thomas Al and Jenita Rayford of Bryan; four brothers, James Tates of Hearne, Bobby Tates of Bryan, Eddie Tates of Lubbock and Augusta Tates of Lubbock; four sisters, Princess Nutall of Bryan and Ella Ruth Roberts, Lula M. Griffin and Bertha Sheppard, all of Lubbock; and one grandchild.
