BURTON Services for Howard Herbert Matthies, 90, of Burton are set for 3 p.m. Friday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Greenvine.
The Rev. Pamela Werrell will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Foehner Funeral Home in Burton.
Mr. Matthies died Tuesday at Trinity Medical Center in Brenham.
Born in La Bahia community near Burton, he was a retired teacher at Hohenwalde School and owner and operator of Matthies Grocery in Burton. He attended Boundary School, Brenham High School, Blinn College and Sam Houston State University.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Olefa Koerth Matthies.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Jerald Jerri and Glenn Linke of Houston; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Olita Prenzler of Brenham and Felba and Otto Schatz of Rosenberg; two sisters-in-law, Bertha Koerth of Brenham and Johanna Matthies of Beasley; one granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Burton Cotton Gin and Museum, the Burton Fire Department or Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Greenvine.
Woten T. Richardson

NAVASOTA Services for Woten T. Richardson, 79, of Navasota are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Lee Tabernacle Methodist Church in Navasota.
The Rev. Kabamba Kiboko will officiate. Burial will be in the Rest Haven Cemetery in Navasota.
Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home in Navasota. A wake service will be conducted from 7 to 9 p.m.
Mr. Richardson died Sunday at College Station Medical Center.
He was born in Texarkana, graduated from Dunbar High School in Texarkana and attended Wiley College in Marshall. Mr. Richardson taught radar at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss. and at Fort Monmouth, N.J., before retiring in 1984.
He had a 27-year career as a technical writer with General Electric in Utica, N.Y.. He served in the U.S. Army and Air Force and was a member of the Lee Tabernacle Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Willie Marie Wesley Richardson of Navasota; two sons, Robert Charles Chuck Richardson of Frankfort, Ill., and Wesley Eugene Richardson of Harrison, N.J.; two daughters, Deborah Gail Richardson of Houston and Joycelyn Marie Williams of Baltimore; five brothers; one sister; and five grandchildren.
Laura Whitfield

Services for Laura Whitfield, 72, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Daniel & Son Funeral Home Chapel.
The Rev. Samuel Taplin of New Jerusalem Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Old Brewer Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to the time of services Saturday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Whitfield died Tuesday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.
She was born in Caldwell and was a lifelong resident of Bryan. She was a cook. She attended high school and one year of college.
Survivors include a brother, Boyd Whitfield Jr. of Bryan; and one grandchild.
Billy Lothringer

KINGSVILLE Services for Billy Lothringer, 58, of Kingsville are set for 3 p.m. Saturday at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home in Navasota.
The Rev. Jack Jeter will officiate. Burial will be in the Independence Cemetery in Shiro.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home. Mr. Lothringer died Wednesday at Spohn Kleberg Memorial Hospital.
He was born in San Antonio and was a retired master mechanic and carpenter. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include a daughter, Angela Kim Lothringer of California; a brother and sister-in-law, Skeeter and Eraena Lothringer of Cypress; and a sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Rusty Wade of College Station.
John H. Ruiz Sr.

TEMPLE Services for John H. Ruiz Sr., 83, of Rockdale are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Rockdale.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m Friday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
The Rev. Robert Herald will officiate.
Mr. Ruiz died Wednesday at Scott & White Hospital in Temple.
He was born and raised in Milano and lived in Rockdale for the past 51 years. He was a machine operator for Santa Fe Railroad, where he retired after 38 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of member of the Rockdale VFW Post No. 6525.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carmen Gonzales Ruiz.
Survivors include a son, Hector V. Ruiz Sr. of Mesquite; a daughter-in-law, Lydia Ruiz of Mesquite; and four grandchildren.
Gary Allen Penuel

SUGAR LAND Services for Gary Allen Penuel, 36, formerly of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Jeter Funeral Home in Friendswood. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Penuel died as a result of a motorcycle accident.
He was born in Irving and worked for Conoco in Houston.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry (Qiuni He) Penuel of Sugar Land; his mother, Barbara Cravens of Alvin; his father, Victor B. Penuel of Alvin; a sister, Tracy Menn of Alvin; a brother and sister-in-law, Justin and Mikki Cravens of Alvin; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Tonia He and Gary Zhang of Sugar Land; a grandmother, Selma Dotson of Bryan; and five nieces and two nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Conoco for a Texas A&M scholarship.

He was a lifelong resident of Navasota and was a farmer and member of New Hope Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Fannie B. Haywood.
Survivors include two brothers, Johnnie Jefferson of Dallas and Albert Graves of La Porte.

Zachary died Wednesday at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin.
He was born in College Station.
Survivors include his parents, Nicki and Jimi Fischer of Caldwell; three brothers, Chance, Frank and John Fischer, all of Caldwell; his grandparents, Mike and Carolyn Temple of Rockdale and Marvin and Judy Beseda of Caldwell; his great-grandparents, Ray and Beth Robison of Rockdale, Bessie Beseda of Caldwell, and Frances Taylor of Caldwell.

Mr. Kleiber died Wednesday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan.
He was born in Schulenberg and lived in Calvert for more than 50 years. He was an installer for Southwestern Bell Telephone and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a Catholic.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ricky and Charlette Kleiber of Gause and Alan Kleiber of Easterly; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Bernie Huckaby of Hearne; a brother and sister-in-law, Ervin and Dorothy Kleiber of Schulenberg; four sisters, Della Sims and Olivia Williams, both of Houston, and Helen Marek and Florine Ohnheiser, both of Schulenberg; and eight grandchildren.
