MADISONVILLE — Services for Electra Brown, 78, of Madisonville are set for 1 p.m. Friday at the Shiloh Baptist Church in Madisonville.
The Rev. S.L. Morris will officiate. Burial will be in the West End Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Madisonville Funeral Home.
Mrs. Brown died Tuesday.
Born in Madison County, she lived most of her life in Madisonville and was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church. She worked as an usher with the Greater New Home District in Centerville and was a certified nursing assistant in Madisonville and Fort Worth. She was involved with the Greater New Tabernacle.
Survivors include a daughter, Helen Jones of Madisonville; a sister, Quincy Terrell of Madisonville; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Homer Leroy Thomas, Jr.,
Homer Leroy Thomas, Jr., 68, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2003. Visitation for Mr. Thomas will be from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm Tuesday, March 4, at Cozart Funeral Home, Normangee. Funeral Services will be held Wednesdaym, March 5 at 2:00 pm at Hilltop Lakes Chapel. Bro. Chuck Isbell and Bro. Bob Kristensen (retired) will officiate. Graveside services will be held March 6 at 2:00 pm at the Ft. Sill National Cemetery, Lawton, OK.
Mr. Thomas was a retired Chief Warrant Officer (4) in the United States Army, with 27 years of service. He served two tours of duty in Korea and two in Vietnam. During his career he served as a Flight Instructor, Air Traffic Specialist, and Instrument Flight Examiner. Medals he received were the Vietnam Service Medals with five Service Stars; Army Commendation Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster; Bronze Star; Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster; National Defense Medal; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm; four Overseas Service Bars; Air Medal with 41 Oak Leaf Clusters; Master Army Aviator Badge and Marksman. He retired in 1980 with 10,000 plus hours of flight time; 5,000 fixed wing and 5,000 helicopter with 1,700 of these for combat hours in Vietnam.
Mr. Thomas was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge and the Hilltop Lakes Golf Association.
Survivors include wife Paula J. Thomas of Hilltop Lakes, TX; sons Robert and wife Linda Thomas of Waupun, WI, Randall Thomas and Russell Thomas of Springfield, VA; step-son Stanley and wife Kim Golden of Durant, OK; step-daughters Susan Golden of Durant, OK and Rebecca Meckel of Waco TX; brother William and wife Karen Thomas of Enid, OK; sister Elizabeth and husband John Taylor of Lawton, OK and eight grandchildren.
Ida Bell “Mickey” Cooley
Ida Bell “Mickey” Cooley, 95, was promoted to heaven Sunday, March 2nd, 2003 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Graveside services will be held 1:00 PM, Tuesday, March 4th, 2003 at College Station Cemetery with Dr. Bob Waters officiating. Mickey was born November 20, 1907 in a covered wagon in the state of New Mexico to Melvin and Pearl Akins. She had resided in Wichita Falls for the past year. She was a lifelong resident of College Station and in 1957 she built the Sabre Inn at the east gate of Texas A&M University.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers. Survivors include three sons, Dr. Matt Cooley of Bossier City, LA, Bill Cooley and wife Frances of College Station and Ret. Lt. Col. Johnny Cooley and wife Sue of Wichita Falls; niece, Barbara Jean Sims of College Station; nephews, Sammie Akins, Dickey Doyle Hollingshead, Norman Glen Hollingshead, Lanny Bob Hollingshead and Bennie Basham. She has eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a special friend, Edith Watts of Bossier City.
Honorary pallbearers are Bucky Cooley, Lynea Hollis, Gail Barzilla, Sonya Colley, Johna Nicklas, Brenda Conrady, Shari Evans and Terri Torres.

Services for Barbara L. Dunlap, 74, of Bryan will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan.
Mrs. Dunlap died Sunday at her home.
She was born in Newark, Ohio, and lived in Bryan the past six years. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami.
Mrs. Dunlap was a member of the St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church.
Survivors include her husband, James A. “Jim” Dunlap of Bryan; a son, James M. Dunlap of Bryan; two daughters, Patricia J. Armitage of Pasadena, Calif., and Julie A. Oppenborn of Spring; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Robert Preuss Sr.
Sept. 27, 1910 — March 4, 2003
BRENHAM — Services for Robert Preuss Sr., 92, of Brenham are set for 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham.
The Revs. Lawrence Bade and Kim Little-Brooks will officiate. Burial will be in the Prairie Lea Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.
Mr. Preuss died Tuesday.
He was born in Washington County and was a retired farmer and rancher. Mr. Preuss was a member of the St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham and the Sons of Hermann Lodge No. 6.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frieda Hermann Preuss.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Jr. and Jeanette Preuss of Brenham; a daughter and son-in-law, Gloria Jean and Merle Toomes of Pearland; a brother, Alvin Preuss of Houston; a sister, Dorothy Preuss of Houston; a brother-in-law, Fritz Hermann; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Richard (Clara) Hermann; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Steve J. Nemecek

ROCKDALE — Graveside services for Steve J. Nemecek, 84, of Rockdale are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at the New Tabor Cemetery on F.M. 166 in Caldwell.
Rev. Henry Beseda will officiate.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell.
Mr. Nemecek died Monday at Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale.
He was born in Burleson County and lived in Caldwell for many years before moving to Rockdale. He was a retired transportation worker. Mr. Nemecek served in the U.S. Army-Air Force.
Survivors include a brother, Frank Nemecek of Snook; and two sisters, Jean Maddox of Caldwell and Gabriella Sebesta of League City.
Lawrence Arthur Schmidt
May 22, 1919 — March 3, 2003
BURTON — Services for Lawrence Arthur Schmidt, 83, of Burton are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Greenvine.
The Rev. Pamela Werelle will officiate. Burial will be in the La Bahia Cemetery near Burton.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Foehner Funeral Home in Burton.
Mr. Schmidt died Monday in Bryan.
A lifelong resident of Burton, Mr. Schmidt was a retired farmer, rancher and carpenter. He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Greenvine, the La Bahia Turn Verein, La Bahia Cemetery Association, the Burton Sons of Hermann, the Burton Fire Department and the Washington County Fair swine committee.
Survivors include his wife, Elvera Schmidt of Burton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Delbert and Peggy Schmidt and Roy and Carol Schmidt, all of Burton; a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Fred Rau of Brenham; two sisters-in-law, Emma Neutzler and Erna Mae Neutzler; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Eddie and Velma Penkert and Elmer and Lillie Neutzler; two brothers-in-law, Oren Neutzler and Wilbert Neutzler; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Edward W. Dorman
May 18, 1927 — March 4, 2003
MADISONVILLE — Services for Edward W. Dorman, 75, of Madisonville are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Madisonville Funeral Home.
The Rev. Dean Ferguson will officiate. Burial will be in the Rock Prairie Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Mr. Dorman died Tuesday in Houston.
He was born in Madison County and was a retired heavy equipment operator in highway construction. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Dorman of Midway; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jerry and Vivian Dorman of Alvin and Randal Dorman of El Segundo, Calif.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Phyllis and Glen Nevill of Humble, Debra and Marty Towle of Sulphur, La., and Glenda Kentolall of Houston; two sisters, Glyn Hoffman of San Antonio and Betty Jane Cook of Jacksonville; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Ida Bell ‘Mickey’ Cooley

Graveside services for Ida Bell “Mickey” Cooley, 95, of Wichita Falls are set for 1 p.m. Tuesday at the College Station Cemetery.
The Rev. Bob Waters, Pastor Emeritus of A&M United Methodist Church, will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan.
Mrs. Cooley died Sunday in Wichita Falls.
She was born in New Mexico and lived in Wichita Falls for a year. She lived most of her life in College Station and built the Sabre Inn at the east gate of Texas A&M University in 1957.

Muggie Olean Morgan

Services for Muggie Olean Morgan, 70, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Greater Tabernacle Baptist Church in Bryan.
The Rev. D. N. Jones of the Greater Tabernacle Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Daniel & Son Funeral Home in Bryan.
Mrs. Morgan died Thursday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.
She was born in Leon and was a longtime resident of Bryan. She was a nursing assistant and attended at E.A. Kemp High School in Bryan. She was a member of Greater Salem Baptist Church, where she was on the Mission I Board, was a member of the Minister’s Wives Conference Bible Study and attended Sunday school.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. M.D. Morgan of Bryan; two sons, Levi Hazeley III and Gregory Hazeley, both of Houston; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Berlinda and Johnie Jackson, Lillie Holt, Shelia and Paul Sweeney Jr. and Venus and Albert Greggs, all of Houston; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.
