Gerald Lynn Vann
1944-2003
MADISONVILLE — Services for Gerald Lynn Vann, 59, of Cartersville, Ga., are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Evans Chapel Methodist Church in Leona.
The Revs. Morris House, Jerry House and Anthony Cecil will officiate. Burial will be in the Evans Chapel Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Madisonville Funeral Home.
Mr. Vann died Friday at his home.
He was a former resident of Austin and Durango, Colo., and was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School in Austin. He attended the University of Texas and spent most of his career in the telecommunications industry in Texas and Georgia.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth “Liz” Vann of Cartersville; a stepdaughter, Katie of Cartersville; a son, Chris Vann; a daughter, Amy Vann of La Grange; his mother, Pearl “Betsy” Vann of Austin; two brothers and a sister-in-law, David and Connie Vann of Austin and Mick Vann of Dripping Springs; and numerous other family.
John Solon Griffith
1910 — 2003
John Solon Griffith passed away Saturday, March 8, 2003 in the Sherwood Nursing Home, Bryan, Texas. Mr. Griffith was born in the Reliance Community of Brazos County. Following the loss of his father, he moved to Bryan, Texas, with his mother and brothers. There he attended school and was active in several sports.
In the late 1930’s, he began working for the Texas Highway Department. He then moved to Hempstead as the first Waller County Engineer, later returning to the Department until his retirement in 1975 after 38 years with the Texas Department of Highways. He moved to Bellville and returned to Bryan in 1995.
Mr. Griffith enjoyed golf, photography and traveling. He was a Past Elder of Bellville Church of Christ and a member of Central Church of Christ in Bryan.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lynn Griffith and Ralph Griffith; and his wife of 69 years, Margaret Emily Hopper.
Survivors include his daughter & son-in-law, Sarah Lou & Calvin Chamberland; three granddaughters and their spouses, Lois & Dave Brokenbourgh, Lisa & Rick Palmer and Laurie & Gary Gerke. Five Great Grandchildren, Frances Palmer, Bryan Palmer, David Nolen, Jason Gerke and Claire Gerke.
A visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at the Hillier Funeral Home, Bryan, Texas. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Hillier Funeral Home with Mr. Bob Wolfert officiating. Interment will follow in the Reliance Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Central Church of Christ or to a charity of one’s choice.
Mary Eleanor Watson
March 5, 1913 — March 7, 2003
Mary Eleanor Watson, 90, died March 7, 2003 surrounded by her family at St. Joseph Regional Health Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Watson, an infant son, five brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jay Don and Diana Watson of Bryan; her daughter and son-in-law, DeAnn and Jodie Keilberg of Giddings; two brothers, Mervin “Bud” Cross of Caldwell and Pat Cross of Oklahoma City, OK; one sister, Mille Simpson of El Campo; two grandsons and their wives, Jay Davis and Molly Watson and Whitney and Brandy Keilberg; and two great-grandchildren, Kamyree Keilberg and John Davis Watson.
A lifelong resident of Burleson County, she attended Mary Hardin Baylor and began teaching school at age 18. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Caldwell.
Services will be held at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2003. Family visitation will be held Saturday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Strickland Funeral Home.

Joel Cummings
HOUSTON — Services for Joel Cummings are set for 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home in Houston.
Entombment will be in the Mission Memorial Mausoleum.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Cummings died Friday.
Charles R. Franklin
Dec. 28, 1962 — March 5, 2003
Services for Charles R. Franklin, 40, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Monday at Dabney Hill Baptist Church in Snook.
The Rev. Tyree Workman Jr. of Dabney Hill Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Carven Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.
Mr. Franklin died Wednesday in Galveston.
He was born in Burleson County and was a lifelong resident of Bryan. He attended Snook public schools and was a cook. He was also a Baptist.
Survivors include a daughter, Lawanna Hawkins of Caldwell; four brothers, Robert Franklin of Bryan, Bennie Franklin of Tunis, Ronald Miller of Italy and Clyde Franklin of Fort Worth; six sisters, Patsey Davis of Caldwell, Brenda Davis and Daisy Hornsby, both of Bryan, Reba Pool of Clay, Dorothy Swain of College Station and Vera Mae Bullard of Fort Worth; and two grandchildren.
John Griffith

Services for John Griffith, 92, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Monday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

NAVASOTA — Services for Lela May Hines, 91, of Navasota are set for 10 a.m. Monday at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.
The Rev. Richard Lee Dugger, a Baptist minister, will officiate. Burial will be in Brushy Cemetery in Buffalo.
Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Ms. Hines died Friday at her home.
She was born in Leon County and was a member of the Buffalo Baptist Church. She was a first- and second-grade school teacher prior to her retirement.
Survivors include three sisters, Mary Josephine Moore, Joyce Cathrine Hines and Olivia Hixon, all of Navasota; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Hubert E. Homeyer

NAVASOTA — Services for Hubert E. Homeyer, 68, of Navasota are set for 3 p.m. Sunday at Zion Lutheran Church in Anderson.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.
Mr. Homeyer died Friday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.
He was born in Anderson and was retired from Texas A&M University. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Lions Club.
Survivors include three sisters, Selma Nusth of Nebraska, Hattie Prieve of College Station and Evelyn Hemann of Navasota.
Rosie Kopech
Aug. 14, 1910 — March 7, 2003
NAVASOTA — Services for Rosie Kopech, 92, of Plantersville are set for 10 a.m. Monday at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church in Hempstead.
The Rev. James Burkart of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Stanislaus Church Cemetery in Chappell Hill.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home in Navasota and from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church.
A rosary and vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Mrs. Kopech died Friday at Bryton Inn Health Center.
She was born in Lockhart and lived in Plantersville 16 years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Kopech.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Henry and Mary Kopech of Houston, Steve and Lucy Kopech of Monaville and Harry and Theresa Kopech of Bellville; a son-in-law, Benny Bagwell of Trinity; five daughters and sons-in-law, Martha and Joe Bronikowski of East Bernard, Pauline and Pete Mazurkiewicz of Chappell Hill, Rose and Joe Mock of Plantersville, Louise and Wolfgang Holke of Chicago and Lucille and Michael Pavlock of Navasota; a daughter-in-law, Lucy Kopech; three sisters, Bernice Kubeczka, Helen Grifno and Julia Kopycinski, all of Houston; 34 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
