Ely McDonald Sr., age 75 of Breckenridge, died on Saturday, August 9, 2008 at his residence.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, August 13th, in the Breckenridge Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.
Burial will follow under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.
Visitation will be held Tuesday evening, August 12th, from 6 to 7 p.m.
Ely Weldon McDonald Sr. was born on October 13, 1932 in Breckenridge to parents, Ely Washington “Babe” McDonald and Dessie Marie Harris McDonald.
He grew up in Breckenridge and graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1951.
He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Hamburg, Germany during the Korean War.
Following his honorable discharge from the military, Ely married Mary Shirley Land on August 27, 1955 at Rose Avenue Baptist Church in Breckenridge.
Ely worked as a heavy machine operator most of his life until his retirement in 2005.
He had also worked as a drilling rig operator for Magnolia Oil and a marine mechanic for Carey’s Marina.
Ely was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Estelle Rodriguez.
Ely is survived by his wife, Shirley McDonald of Breckenridge; two sons, Ely McDonald Jr. and wife, Karen of Coppell and James McDonald and wife, Norma of Breckenridge; one daughter, Brenda McDonald of Breckenridge; four grandchildren, Jeremy Bibby and wife, Tanya of Breckenridge, Billie Gail Hight of Fort Worth, Callan Solis and husband, Monte of Coppell and Jamie McDonald of Breckenridge; and three great grandchildren, Zaryn Maples of Fort Worth, Jacob Bibby of Breckenridge and Hunter Solis of Coppell.

Lois Marie Cummings, “Grandma Lois,” died August 10, 2008 at her home in Breckenridge, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 12th, at Morehart Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Charles West officiating.
Burial will follow in the Hopewell Cemetery in Bowie, Texas under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.
Visitation will be held Monday evening, August 11th, from 7 to 8 p.m.
Born on November 30, 1923 in Fort Worth, Texas, she was the third child of Ollie and Fern Williams.
The family moved to Montague County after Lois’ birth where she attended the Stoneburg School.
Lois was a member of the elite Stoneburg Gophers Volleyball team of 1940.
In 1940 she married Kenneth Wade Roland.
They had four children: Michael Roland and wife, Shirley of Bellevue, Texas, Stanley Rater and husband, Johnny of Buffalo Springs, Texas, Roy Wade Roland and wife, May of Fort Worth, Texas and Randi Teel of Breckenridge, Texas.
Lois moved to Breckenridge, Texas in 1966, where she owned and operated Jack’s Coffee Shop for twenty-seven years.
In December 1967 Lois married B.T. Cummings.
They resided in Breckenridge, Texas until B.T.’s death in 1985.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, one granddaughter, Tammy Hight, and two brothers, Dub Williams and Roy Williams.
Survivors other than her children include four sisters: Leona Shaw of Bowie, Jo Lowe and husband, Bobby of Wichita Falls, Doris Reed of Bowie and Bettie Johnson and husband, Jimmy of Fort Worth; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and many nephews, nieces and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Necessity Baptist Church, where Lois was a longtime, faithful member.
Memorials may be left at Morehart Mortuary.

HORATIO LEIGH BUNKLEY JR.

Mr. H.L. Bunkley Jr. passed away, August 14, 2008.
At the time of his death he was a resident of Cedar Crest Care Center in Breckenridge, Texas.
Visitation and viewing will be held on Saturday, August 16th, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Morehart Mortuary.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 30th, at Bethany Baptist Church with Rev. Don Bearden and Kevin Mitchell officiating.
Services have been entrusted to Morehart Mortuary.
Horatio Leigh Bunkley Jr., the oldest of six children, was born on July 4, 1921 in Waxahachie, Texas to the late Horatio Leigh Bunkley Sr. and Tempie Ann Morris Bunkley.
His family moved to Breckenridge when he was a young child.
Shortly after graduating from Breckenridge High School in 1939, Mr. Bunkley joined the United States Army where he was in Cannon Company and fought in World War II. After returning home to Breckenridge he also served as Commanding Officer of the National Guard, retiring as Captain.
He helped start the Company L. Reunion and served as officer for many years.
During his 87 years, Leigh worked briefly for Warren Petroleum, and retired from the United States Postal Service after 40 years.
He also was the Stephens County Courhouse Bailiff for a number of years.
Mr. Bunkley was a charter member of Bethany Baptist Church, serving as a deacon, song leader and Sunday School teacher for area nursing homes for over 45 years. He also coached Little League Baseball, and started a church basketball league in the late 50’s and early 60’s.
There was never a more loyal Buckaroo, Texas Rangers or Dallas Cowboys fan to be found in Breckenridge.
He married Claudine Ellis on January 10, 1942 in Breckenridge. They were married 63 years and had two children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother, Bob Bunkley, two sisters, Josephine Myers and Alice Tipton, one son, Richard Bunkley, one son-in-law, Billy Mitchell and one grandson, B.J. Mitchell.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Mitchell of Breckenridge; one brother, Tom Bunkley and wife, Edith of Houston, one sister, Margie Tipton and husband, John of Rockford, IL; one brother-in-law, H.L. Gunlock of Breckenridge; three grandsons, Kevin Mitchell and wife, Tresa of Midland, Marty Mitchell and wife, Penny of San Antonio and Michael Mitchell of Breckenridge; one granddaughter-in-law, Juliet Mitchell Stevens of Little Rock, AR; eight great grandchildren; two uncles, one aunt and many nephews and nieces; as well as, a host of Citizens National Bank coffee-drinking buddies.

Glenn Lacy, age 95 of Breckenridge, died Saturday, August 16, 2008, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.
Graveside funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Monday, August 18th, in the Breckenridge Cemetery with Jack Morehart officiating.
Burial will be under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.
Visitation will be Sunday evening, August 17th, from 6 to 7 p.m.
Money Glenn Lacy was born on March 26, 1913 in Throckmorton, Texas to parents, Money Lacy and Rachel Elnora Morris Lacy.
He moved with his family to Friona, Texas as a young child and graduated from Friona High School in 1931.
Glenn married Glennis Pearl Pennington on March 5, 1939 in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
They made their home in Maxwell, New Mexico where the Lacys owned and operated Lacy Feed Mill.
While in Maxwell, Glenn served as the town mayor for 8 years.
Later they moved to Hartley, Texas where Glenn managed the Feed Co-Op.
Following retirement, Glenn and his wife moved to Breckenridge, Texas.
Glenn was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the New Mexico Feed Producers Association.
He was the proud owner of a 1913 Model T car and he and Glennis enjoyed toting it to many antique car shows.
He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, J.W. Lacy, Morris Lacy and Samuel Lacy, and two sisters, Frances Crow and Marjorie Wallace.
He is survived by his wife, Glennis Lacy of Breckenridge; three sisters-in-law, Minnie Copeland and husband, Toad of Breckenridge, Danny Pennington of Menard and Ann Lacy of Hemmet, CA; and many nephews, nieces and their families.

Sam Huffman Sr., age 82 of Breckenridge, died Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at Abilene Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, August 21st, at Morehart Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Rex Boggs officiating.
Burial will follow in the Breckenridge Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening, August 20th, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Sam Refate Huffman Sr. was born on March 9, 1926 in Crystal Falls, Texas to parents, Carl Lee Huffman and Mae Belle Durossette Huffman.
He married Armenta Lee “Mincy” Boggs on April 29, 1950 in Odessa, Texas.
After 36 years of marriage and raising a family together, Mincy preceded him in death in 1986.
Sam later married Shirley May Risler on January 21, 1995 in Breckenridge.
He worked for over fifty years as a dozer operator for Turner Seed Company.
Sam loved to fish and spend time with his children and their families.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Harold Huffman and two sisters, Faye Henson and Eunice Smart.
Sam is survived by his wife, Shirley Huffman of Breckenridge; one son, Sam Huffman Jr. and wife, Cindy of Breckenridge; two daughters, Vicky Fisher and husband, Joe and Beverly Grissom, all of Breckenridge; four brothers, Jack Huffman, Pete Huffman and wife, Sue, Calvin Huffman and wife, Clara and Billy Huffman and wife, Effie, all of Breckenridge; four sisters, Verna Roberson and husband, Billy and Millie Lawler and husband, Jimmy, all of Breckenridge, Louise Cox of Abilene and Virginia Lusk and husband, Robert of Hector, AR; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
