George Warren Harris
George Warren Harris, Jr., of Boerne, passed away April 16, 2003. He was born September 14, 1916, the son of Florence Schliek Harris and Col. George Warren Harris. George was a graduate of Albany High School, N.Y. in 1935 and entered Cornel University. He was initiated into Alpha Sigma Phi in Feb., 1936. He left Cornel in 1938 and entered Flying School in Tulsa, OK. His dream was to be a pilot. He entered the U. S. Air Force in 1940 and began an instructors course at Randolph AFB. He was sworn in as a
1st Lieutenant in April, 1942 and promoted to Captain in November of that year. He was a B-17 instructor before being assigned as Squadron Commander for the 546 Bomb Squad. After 19 missions and 20 months overseas, he was promoted to Major and holds the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with two oak leaf clusters. He retired as a Lt. Col. He continued his education and received his BA degree from Gonzaga University.
He was Operations Manager for Whirlpool for a number of years. He retired and pursued many interests. He was Justice of the Peace for Kendall County from 1978 thru 1982. He loved farming and ranching, was an avid square dancer and served as president of the Boerne Bunch Square Dance Club, as well as being a member of many clubs in San Antonio. He also belonged to the Kendall Amateur Radio Society as KC5HRP. George was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Rosenberger, and is survived by Norma Jeanne Harris, his devoted wife of 37 years; Son, George Warren Harris, III, and his wife, Carol, and their three children, Mark Harris, Jennifer Shuford and her husband, Clark, Randal Harris and wife, Angela and their daughter, Madeleine Adele, all of Dallas, two daughters, Jeri Ann Striegel and Lisa Marie Kingsford, both of California. He is also survived by his beloved stepdaughter, Vonda Jeanne Lowe and her husband, James Richard and their two daughters, Natasha Marie and Jeanna Rashele. The family wishes to express their appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Erika J. Struble, Maj. and to all the nurses and aides of the Hematology Clinic at Wilford Hall Medical Center . Visitation was held Monday, April 21, from 6pm to 8pm at Vaughan's Funeral Home of Boerne.
The Funeral Service was held Tuesday, April 22, at 11 a.m. at St Helena's Episcopal Church in Boerne, with Rev. David Read, Officiating. A private family Graveside Service was held in the Boerne Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to charity of choice.
Ann Pritz
Ann Pritz, age 97, a San Antonio resident for 4 years, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2003. Born in Springfield, Illinois, on March 23, 1906, she was the Daughter of Nathan and Vashti Foster. Originally from Denver, Colorado, before moving to Boerne she had lived in Plano, TX, for over 25 years where she was a member of the Ascension Lutheran Church of Garland, TX. She was also a member of the Order of the Easter Star. Preceded in death by her Husband, Dr. Robert W. Pritz, Sr. in 1961, Mrs. Pritz is survived by her Son, Dr. Robert W. Pritz, Jr. and his wife, Freda of San Antonio; Grandson, Robert W. Pritz, III and his Wife, Yvonne, of Houston; Great Grandchildren, Blake Pritz and his Wife, Mary, and Allison Pritz; Great Great Grandchildren, Madison, Parker, and Kaylee Pritz. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
Bryan Kelly
Bryan Kelly, age 30, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2003. Born in Tupelo, Mississippi, on February 14, 1973, he was the son of James and Lynda King Kelly. Employed by Oak Hills Pest Control, Bryan also attended the Oak Hills Church of Christ. Mr. Kelly is survived by his Wife, Crystal Kelly; Son, Kevin Aedan Kelly; Parents, John T. and Lynda Leeson of Fair Oaks Ranch; Grandmother, Jewel Kelly of Chesterville, Mississippi;Grandfather Bill King of Diamond Head, Mississippi; Sisters, Jinnifer Connell of Paducah, KY, Betsy Kelly of St. Louis, MO, Stephanie Mann, Dr. Shannon Little, and Stacy King;
Brothers, John Leeson, IV and James Leeson; Uncle, Morris King. Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 15, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. The Funeral Service was on Wednesday, April 16 at 1:00 P.M. at the Vaughan Funeral Home with Dennis McDonald, Officiating. Burial followed in the Boerne Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jesse Vicknair, Chris Gentry, Jay Sexton, James Leeson, John Leeson,IV, and Morris King. Lee Roy Spriggs, Jr.
Lee Roy Spriggs, Jr., age 55, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2003. He was born on September 20, 1947, in Crockett, TX, the son of Lee R. Spriggs, Sr. and Opal Tullis Spriggs. A lifelong resident of Boerne, he was a Veteran of the U. S. Army serving during Viet Nam. Preceded in death by his Grandparents, Lee and Leona Spriggs as well as his Mother, Opal Treadway, Mr. Spriggs is survived by his Wife, Patsy Curtis Spriggs; Father and Step Mother, Lee R. Spriggs, Sr. and Lizzie Spriggs; Son, Bobby Spriggs; Daughter, Debbie Kay Spriggs Page and her husband, Jason; Step Son, Roy Lee Shook and his wife, Amanda; Step Daughter, Brenda Ann Shook; Grandchildren, Skyla Kay Page, Alexis Shook, and Hayden Shook; Brothers, Ricky Spriggs and his wife, Jean, David Spriggs, and Gary Spriggs; Sister, Denise; Aunt and Uncle, Eva and Alfred Newman; Many cousins, Numerous nieces and nephews. Emilie Wolf (nee Hentschel), loving mother and grandmother, was born in Philadelphia, PA on February 24, 1905 and died on December 13, 2002 in Boerne, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband Max Wolf. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Thompson; Grandchildren, Stacee Thompson, Jill Miller, and Troy Thompson; Great Grandchildren, Austin and Karli Miller; Brother, Edwin Hentschel of Bunnell, FL; Nieces and Nephews. Annie Sparck
Annie Sparck, age 85, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2002. She was born on June 30, 1917, in Inez, Texas, the daughter of John and Lula Kutcha Prukop. A member of the Catholic Church, she had been a resident of Boerne for 4 years and was a former resident of New Orleans, Louisiana and Portland, Texas. She volunteered at the Rainbow Senior Center and the Seasons Thrift Shop. Preceded in death by her husband, George Sparck and son, Johnny D. Sparck, Mrs. Sparck is survived by Niece, Helen Jessop; Grandaughters, Jennifer Sparck and Margaret Ellen Sparck Causey, both of New Orleans; Daughter in law, Peggy Wilson Sparck; numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, December 17, at 2:30 P.M. at Vaughan’s Funeral Home, with Dr. David B. Vaughan, Officiating. Seba H. Hennessy
Seba H. Hennessy, age 87, of Boerne, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2002. She was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on January 22, 1915, the daughter of James Richard and Bertha Porter Colston. A member of the Boerne Turn Verein and the Antlers Dance Club, she had lived in Boerne for over 50 years. Preceded in death by her husband, William J. Hennessy in 2002, Mrs. Hennessy is survived by Daughter, Billy Jean Loflin and her husband, Ben, of Bedford, Texas; Two Grandchildren; Two Great Grandchildren; Brothers, Lee Colston and Jay Colston; Sister, Laura Parker; Niece, Julie Pendleton, as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Visitation was held on Sunday, Dec. 22, from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. The Graveside Service was held on Monday, Dec. 23, at 11:00 A.M. at the Boerne Cemetery, with Dr. David B. Vaughan, Officiating.
Dr. Jack Hayes
On December 20, 2002, the angels came to take Jack home to his Lord in heaven after a courageous battle against cancer. Jack was born on April 28, 1937 in Findlay, Ohio to Ted and Barbara Hayes. He served in the U.S. Army in Europe in ’55-’56 and returned to the US to earn his Master’s Degree at Southern Illinois University. He married the former Janice Vaughn of Harrisburg, Illinois on December 19, 1964.
In 1968, Jack and Jan moved to Houston, Texas where he earned his Ph.D. in Medical Entomology. He received an appointment to the faculty of the Medical School at Texas Tech University in 1973. He was a professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine for 20 years. While in Lubbock, Dr. Hayes was instrumental in establishing the Presbyterian Medical Center, one of the nation’s first clinics to combine church and federal funding to hire physicians to provide health care services for the community. During his tenure at Texas Tech, Jack developed a consulting business, working with international corporations doing health risk assessments. He traveled throughout Central and South America, Africa and the Middle East.
Dr. Hayes took a sabbatical from teaching at Texas Tech to do Research at INPA, an international research center in the Brazilian Amazon. His wife and two young children lived with him in Manaus, Brazil during his two-year leave.
After retiring from Texas Tech, Jack and Jan moved to Boerne,Texas in 1993 where Jack was a professor at the University of Texas School of Public Health in San Antonio, Texas. One year after arriving in Boerne, on Christmas day 1994, Jack was blessed with the gift of a life-saving liver transplant at the University Hospital in San Antonio. A consummate scientist, Jack used his transplant to further forensic science research by using his own liver in a study which further expanded the list of sources of DNA evidence by showing that mtDNA analysis may potentially be used to associate a maggot with a human corpse.
He retired from the UTHSC at San Antonio in December 1999 to develop vector-ecology consultation work with the cities of Brownsville and McAllen.
His research concentrated on Dengue ever and West Nile Virus.
The city of McAllen honored him for is work with the Texas A & M School of Rural Health in McAllen, for the establishment of a vector control program for the city McAllen and the surrounding communities, and for his time, effort and support for public health for all individuals by declaring November 22, 2002 as “Dr. Jack Hayes Day” in McAllen, Texas.
Preceding him in death were his father Ted(1953) and his mother Barbara(December 24, 2001).
He is survived by his brother, Robert L. Hayes, of Monument, Colorado; his three oldest children from a Previous marriage: Tamblyn Rae Hayes Mileski of Marquette, Michigan; Jack Kevin Hayes of Lubbock, Texas; and Tiffany Dianne Hayes Moore of Findlay, Ohio; his wife Jan of Boerne, Texas, and their two children: Jodi Lynn Hayes Spoor of San Antonio, Texas; and Jarrod deMeillon Hayes of Houston, Texas.
Jack was especially devoted to his grandchildren who affectionately called him “Daddy Jack”: Dillon Hayes Ybarra, Jacklyn Montana Hayes, Emma Christiana and Eileen Walker Spoor, Jillian Elaine and Jenna Elisabeth Hayes.
Jack was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Boerne.
Friends and loved ones are invited to celebrate his life at a memorial service being held at the church on Friday, December 27, 2002 at 11:00A.M.
His body has been cremated.

Deborah Patton Macomber, age 50, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2003. She was born on September 25, 1952, in El Paso, Texas, the Daughter of Clifford F. and Barbara Anne England Macomber. Preceded in death by her Mother and Brother, Clifford E. Macomber, Jr., Deborah is survived by her Father and Step Mother, Clifford and Georgia Macomber; Children, Kristin Coughlin and her husband, Kevin, Justin Patton and his wife, Kim, Julie Tetzlaff and her husband, Ricco, and Clayton Patton; Grandchildren, Samantha Patton, Hagen Tetzlaff, Sarah Tetzlaff, Chancey Tetzlaff, Jenna Coughlin, and Kacey Patton; Brothers, Robert Macomber and his wife, Janis and John Macomber and his wife, Kathy. Richard K. Gregory
Richard K. Gregory, April 28, 1930 - June 25, 2003. Isaiah 40: 31, "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." Beloved husband, father and grandfather entered into his heavenly rest on June 25, 2003. Richard was born in Chicago on April 28, 1930 to Josephine and Kasmir Gregory. He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Janet; Children, Judy (Jim) Gleason, Robert (Cindy) Gregory, Sandra (T. J.) Faust and Susan (Ronnie) Andrade; Grandchildren, Steven, Ricky, Robbie, Melissa, Eric, Amanda, Gabriel, and Christina; Sister, Irene Krupa of Sarasota, Florida; Numerous Nieces, Nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daughter, Diane, and Granddaughter, Megan. Richard was an example of Christian love and was an active member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, The Equestrian Order of the Holy Seplecur, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus; and Alhambra, Carmelite Order of the Little Flower. Richard started his career in the grocery industry at the age of 14, working his way up from a stock boy in Chicago and after a long successful career retired from HEB as Vice President of Pantry Marketing. He was known as one of the most knowledgeable people in the grocery industry and mentored many people during his career. He was a Veteran serving in the U. S. Air Force for 4 years. While in military service, he met Janet Whelan who was also serving in the Air Force Nurse Corps. They married one year later. Richard will be deeply missed by his family, having provided them with a loving home and deep faith. A Rosary will be recited Friday, June 27 at 7:00 P.M. at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Boerne. The Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, June 28, at 9:30 A.M., also at St. Peter's. Lisa Anne Butaud
Lisa Anne Butaud, beloved daughter of Connie Devillier Butaud and Lou Butaud, Jr, entered into eternal life on June 30, 2003. Lisa loved the outdoor life, hunting, riding horses, and snow skiing. She especially loved spending quiet times on the beach in Corpus Christi, Texas. The family will have a service, in a format requested by Lisa, at Bob Hall Pier in Corpus Christi. The memorial will start at sunrise, with the sound of waves, the soft wind blowing, and the smell of ocean air. And then, her ashes will be committed to the sea. She is survived by her parents, Connie and Lou Butaud, of Boerne, Texas; Two children, Celissa Rae New and Dustin James New of Wimberley, Texas; One Brother, Mark Stephen Butaud of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Two Sisters, Marla Butaud Holsomback of Alexandria, Louisiana and Nadine Butaud Taylor of Castle Rock, Colorado. Also surviving her are three nieces and six nephews. Lisa was a graduate of Madison High School, San Antonio and owner of Cuttin-up Beauty Salon in San Marcos, Texas. Lisa's salon specialized in total body care, including hair, nails, pedicures and massage therapy. Lisa had many good and loyal friends to help support her in her time of need. Her "Prayer Warriors" stretched across this land. This support continues even after death. A "Celebration of Life" benefit will be sponsored at the Hays County Civic Center in San Marcos, Texas on July 12 starting at noon. Proceeds from this benefit, not used for medical expenses, will be donated to the Cancer Therapy and Research Center in San Antonio, Texas.
