James Liles
1932 - 2013
Services for James Kenneth Liles, 80, of Emory were held on January 30 at Emory Church of Christ with David Baker officiating. Burial was in the DFW National Cemetery.

Mr. Liles died on January 28, 2013, in a Sulphur Springs hospice facility. He was born on August 4, 1932, in Emory to Elvis P. and Opal Samantha Gilley Liles.

He served in the Army during the Korean War era. He married Sandra Jean Eads on October 26, 1962, in Mesquite and lived most of his life in Rains County.

Mr. Liles worked for many years as a foreman for the Texas Highway Department in maintenance and later part-time for the Rains County Leader. He was a member and deacon of Emory Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Sandra Liles of Emory; and son, Toby Liles of Longview.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jami Liles; two brothers; and one sister.

Memorials may be made to the Make A Wish Foundation.

Services were under the direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home of Alba.

Carolyn Ann McDonald
1940 - 2013
Carolyn Ann McDonald, 72, died January 23, 2013, in Lewisville. She was born March 7, 1940, in Sweet Home, Arkansas, to Harold Gene and Carrie Bernice Thomas Petty.

She married Colvin G. McDonald December 19, 1975.

She was a computer operator for Eckerds Warehouse for many years.

Survivors include her son, Kenneth Allen Rickman (Tammy) of Alvarado; sister, Marie Spencer of Dallas; daughter-in-law and caregiver, Tish Rickman Heer of Lewisville; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; constant little companion, Chief; numerous other family; and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons, Hershel E. Rickman III and Rodney Glenn Rickman; and brother, Harold Petty.

Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home of Emory.

Ray Middleton
1931 - 2013
Funeral services for Ray Middleton, 81, of Emory will be held Wednesday, February 6, at 2:00 p.m. at Believers’ Baptist Church in Emory with Bro. Jason Rolen and Bro. Jimmy Jarrett officiating.

Interment will follow at Turner Cemetery.

Mr. Middleton died February 3, 2013, at his residence. He was born November 8, 1931, in Childress to Ernest Zelmer and Mary Elizabeth Cranford Middleton. He married Ruth Gordon June 21, 1952, in Emory.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 and was a truck driver for many years with Southwestern Transportation Trucking Company. He also worked for the city of Emory with the Water Department.

He coached for 15 years in Mesquite for the Little League Baseball Association.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Ruth Middleton of Emory; daughter, Suzie Conner of Rockwall; son, Eddie Ray Middleton of Emory; twin sister, Fay Middleton Hooten of Emory; sisters, Edna Middleton of Dallas, Belma Middleton of Dallas, Zelma Turner of Alpine, Colorado; brother, Ralph Middleton of Emory; grandchildren, Chris Watson, Brandon Watson, Chad Watson, B.J. Gowins, Josh Gowins, Mandy Branum, Joe Middleton, Zachery Middleton; great-grandchildren, Cole Watson, Taylor Watson, Blaine Watson, Bailey Watson, Brooklyn Watson, Addie Gowins, Bailey Gowins, Kale Branum, Kiley Branum, Natalie Middleton, Clayton Ellis, baby boy due to be born in March, baby girl due in July; numerous other loving family; and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Linda Armstrong; brother, James Henry Middleton; sister, Velma Middleton; and mother-in-law, Lillie Gordon.

Family visitation will be held one hour prior to funeral services.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home in Emory.

Nate Oxford
2006 - 2013
There will be a Celebration of Life service for Nate Oxford, 6, of Fate in the main auditorium at Lake Pointe Church of Rockwall on Friday, February 8, at 7:00 p.m.

He died on Jan. 28, 2013, at 8:50 a.m. and was born with a smile on February 15, 2006, to Wes and Jackie Oxford and big brothers Jake and Luke. He was the grandson of Jerry and Lana Carlisle of Point.

He is survived by a loving family and an Army of supporters known as “Nate’s Mates,” who have rallied around his family for more than four years as he battled brain cancer.

His family wants to celebrate his life with joy and everyone is invited.

Jacquelyn Elizabeth “Jackie” Bongard
1991 - 2013
Services for Jacquelyn Elizabeth “Jackie” Bongard, 21, of Alba were held on May 25 at Lake Fork Baptist Church, Alba, with Bro. Byron George and Bro. Jimmy Jarrett officiating.

Burial was in Salem Cemetery, Alba, under the direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home, Alba. Pallbearers were Robert LaPlante, Jack Slatter, Tony Mata, Peewee Scott, Justin Sisk and Ricky Sanders.

Ms. Bongard died on May 22, 2013, in a Tyler hospital. She was born on October 16, 1991, in Mesquite to Robert Joseph and Leigh A. Riley Bongard. She lived most of her life in Alba.

She was a beloved fiancée, mom, daughter, sister and friend who adored her family and was dedicated to her work. She touched many lives and was loved by all who knew her. She was a waitress at Tiffany’s Restaurant.

Survivors include her father, Robert Bongard of Mineola; mother, Leigh Bongard of Marrero, Louisiana; fiancé, Joseph LaPlante of Alba; daughter, Jalyn LaPlante of Alba; sisters, Britney Bongard of Sulphur Springs and Alicia Bongard of Alba.

Jessie Lee Hooten
1909-2013
Funeral services for Jessie Lee Hooten, 103, of Point were held on May 25 at Point Church of Christ.

Interment followed in Lynch Cemetery with Arles Vandiver and Richard Kellam officiating. Pallbearers were Ricky Hooten Jr., Jimmy Hooten, Clay Hooten, Mark Adair, Scott Hooten and Tim Hooten.

Mrs. Hooten died on May 23, 2013, at her residence. She was born in Lone Oak on November 28, 1909, to Looney and Cynthia Ann Adair Parker. She married Enos Franklin Hooten on December 24, 1927, in Lone Oak.

Survivors include her sons, Leighton Hooten and wife Peggy of Point, Dail Hooten and wife Boots of Point, Larry Hooten and wife Brenda of Point and Teddy Hooten and wife Gaye of Point; sisters, Gertrude Griffits and Sara Parker of Dallas; grandchildren, Linda Hollis, Denice Edge, Ricky Hooten Jr., Clay Hooten, Starla Childers, Phyllis Disotell, Mark Adair, Jimmy Hooten, Todd Hooten, Mike Hooten, Jeff Hooten, Scott Hooten, Lance Hooten, Tim Hooten, and Tom Hooten; great-grandchildren, Jessica, Chelsea, Skylar, Beau, Laci, Hannah, Grady, Kelly, Britney, Ashley, Payton, Kara, Emily, Luke, Jake, Anna, Zack, Cecily, Tori, Colton and Katie; great-great-grandchildren, Greenlee, Kinsler, Oaklee, Olivia, Jaxon and Weston.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Leah Parker; husband; son, Richard Hooten; daughter, Virginia Hooten; sister, Bessie Boyd; brothers, Durwood Parker and Everett Parker; and great-grandchildren, David Edge and Amanda Hooten.

Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

LaTonna Lynn Lane
1971-2013
Services for LaTonna Lynn Lane, 42, of Emory will be held on Saturday, June 1, at 11:00 a.m. at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel in Greenville. Apostle Dwight Smith will officiate and burial will follow in Prairie Grove Cemetery near Emory.

Ms. Lane died on May 24, 2013, at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler. She was born in Wills Point on March 2, 1971, the daughter of Norris Lane and Gwendolyn Smith.

She was a former school teacher and graduate of East Texas State University.

Survivors include her mother, Gwendolyn Savage and husband Troy of Mineola; father, Norris Lane of Emory; grandmother, Modean Lane of Emory; brother, Willie Todd Lane and wife Valiree of Greenville; sister, Norrissa Lane of Emory; niece and nephew, Britain and Catera Lane both of Greenville; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jack “Dad” Defaniel Mahand
1918 - 2013
A graveside service was held for Jack “Dad” Defaniel Ma-hand, 94, of Lone Oak on May 24 at Lynch Funeral Service.

Mr. Mahand died on May 20, 2013, at Hunt County Regional Hospital. He was born on August 14, 1918, the son of Walter Defaniel and Francis Emma (Bruce) Mahand. He was a graduate of Emory High School where he met Glenna Aileen Johnston whom he married on November 29, 1939.

He was an accomplished diesel engine mechanic, inventing several off-shore and on-shore equipment and engine-related applications, five of which were formally patented. He was a long-time employee of Pure Oil Company, Stewart and Stevenson and Southeastern Drilling Company.

He later became the owner of the GMC Truck Dealership and a trucking operation in Sulphur Springs. After retiring, he was the first to design and successfully install a diesel engine in a personal-sized pickup several years before major auto manufacturers began.

He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law: Jackie and Pat Mahand of College Station, Rosa Mahand of Kingwood, Larry and Pam Mahand of Sulphur Springs, Michael and Leta Mahand of Sulpur Springs and Scott and Phyllis Mahand of Lone Oak; 12 grandchildren: Christy Hansen, Cathey Morgan, Bronson Mahand, Brandon Mahand, Barrett Mahand, Chad Mahand, Jake Mahand, Mandy Mahand, Kara Argenbright, Katie Mahand, Kelli Mahand and Clint Mahand, and eight great-grandchildren: Caili Morgan, Kyle Morgan, Blakely Mahand, Zack Mahand, Wesley Mahand, Brady Mahand, Kaden Argenbright and Corbin Argenbright.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Glenna; son, Kenneth Mahand; and his parents.

John Ewing Trumble
1950 - 2013
A memorial service is pending for John Ewing Trumble, 63, of Point.

Mr. Trumble died on May 20, 2013. He was born on January 19, 1950.

He is survived by two brothers, Levi Williams and Joe Ben Trumble; and three sisters, Pat Tittle, Elva Gay Monett and Sylvia Trumble Newsom; and sister-in-law, Ruby Trumble.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Shearin Trumble; and his parents, Joe and Lucille Trumble.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.

Billy Ray Roden
1934 - 2013
A funeral service for Billy Ray Roden, 78, was held September 14 in the Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Azleland Cemetery in Azle. Bro. Arlis Banks officiated.

Mr. Roden died at his residence on September 11, 2013. All of his family were present.

He was born on October 6, 1934, in Ravena to Thomas Monroe and Lela Rita Kirkpatrick Roden.

He married Barbara Ann Bingaman in Fort Worth on March 13, 1954. Mr. Roden worked for and retired from Bell Helicopter in Hurst. After retiring, he and his wife moved to Lake Fork where he could fish to his heart’s content.

Mr. Roden was a member of Lake Fork Baptist Church where he was a member of Bro. David’s Flock Sunday School class.

He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Haltom City-Riverside Lodge # 1331 and the Scottish Rite Free Masons Shriners.

He is survived by his wife of Emory; daughters, Claudia Ownby and husband Ed of Fort Worth and Cindy Roden of Euless; son, Thomas Ray Roden and wife Monique of Fort Worth; sister, Rita May Hestilow of Frankston; sister-in-law, Barbara Ann Roden of Bandera; grandchildren, Chris, Catherine, Trey, Drew, Paige and Mason; six great-grandchildren; and special friend, Bonnie Cottle.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Claudie, Jack and Henry; and sister, Joe Etta Roden-Welch.
