Peggy Sue Slatter
1930 - 2010
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 21, at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Billy Smith. Burial will follow in Slatter Cemetery. A formal visitation is not planned.
Mrs. Slatter was born August 13, 1930, the daughter of Raymond Willard and Margie Sue (White) Culpepper in Electra.
She and Marion Paul Slatter were married December 10, 1949, in Levelland. Mrs. Slatter was a homemaker. She attended Bright Star Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons, Raymond Slatter and wife Nelda of Emory; John Robert Slatter and wife Sheila of Merkel; and Andrew Victor Slatter of Emory; grandchildren, Erin Alisa Banta, Landon Paul Slatter, Raygan Thomas Slatter, Sarah King, Joe King, Jack Robert Slatter and Larissa Duarte; great-grandchildren, Dovie Alisa Banta, Jackson Thomas Banta, Kaden Wayne Slatter and Justin Buck Slatter; and numerous other family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1997, her daughter, Jaxie Morgan in 2009 and two sisters, Joie Foresburg and Elise Fredericks.
Pallbearers will be Joe King, Landon Slatter, Raygan Slatter, Jack Slatter, Raymond Slatter and Victor Slatter. Honorary pallbearer, John Slatter.
Jesse Horton
1926 - 2010
Burial was in Silver Lake Cemetery.
Mr. Horton passed away November 16, 2010, at his home in Emory. He was born March 13, 1926, in Leonard to Sam and Mary Lucilla Smith Horton. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII and worked for Western Union.
Survivors include his wife, Marvon Horton of Emory; sons, Terry and Dwayne Taylor, both of Dallas; daughters, Teresa Beatrick of Greenville, Rhonda Carrier of Dallas and Tammy Reeves of Ft. Worth; brother, S.C. Horton of Dallas; sister, Frances Dodson of Trenton; several grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and several brothers and sisters.
Lynn Diane McGaughey Kearney
1947 - 2010
Born April 3, 1947, in New Castle, Pennsylvania, to A. Wayne McGaughey and Margie Silverthorn McGaughey, she graduated from Peoria High School in Peoria, Illinois, and Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana.
She married David Kearney on July 19, 1969. The couple moved to Texas where they lived most of their 41 years of married life. They recently retired and moved near Alba where they built a new home.
Mrs. Kearney had an avid interest in nature and animal welfare. She served as a trail guide at the Learning Center in Plano and volunteered for many years with the SPCA, caring for, fostering and sometimes adopting dogs. She supported the National Wildlife Federation and the Texas Parks and Wildlife. She was also a major contributor to the American Red Cross.
Their home in Alba, which she helped design, is built to take care of local wildlife and minimize its impact on the environment. The couple has always had a love for Texas, its history, its wildlife and its environment and have been dedicated to its preservation.
She is survived by her husband, David Kearney; son, Scott Kearney and wife Mandy of Frisco; daughter, Sarah Harris and husband Dionde of Dallas; mother; brothers, Stan and wife Cheryl McGaughey of Yucaipa, California, Dennis and wife Diane McGaughey of Edelstein, Illinois; and sister, Donna Dunbar of Peru, Illinois.
A memorial service will be held November 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Highlands Christian Church, 9949 McCree Road, in Dallas where she was a deacon, active in choir and served as chairperson of the worship ministry.
Mrs. Kearney donated her body to UT Southwest Medical Research in hopes that someone might find a cure for the disease that took her life.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of: Lynn Kearney to either The National Wildlife Federation, 11100 Wildlife Center Dr., Reston, VA or the local chapter of the Amercian Red Cross.
Billie Ruth Nelson
1924 - 2010
Ms. Nelson died in the early morning hours of November 20, 2010, at Life Care at Haltom City in Haltom City. She was born in Lone Oak on February 11, 1924, to Enoch Edgar and Zelma Lucille Henshaw Nelson.
She was a homemaker and a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Fort Worth.
Survivors include her sister, Emogene Hays of Royse City, formerly of Emory; nieces, Barbara Rabe of Emory, Avis Bledsoe of Rockwall, Jeannie Mitchell of Emory; nephew, Lonnie Joe “Bud” Hays of Hawkins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, R V Nelson on November 10, 2010.

Linda Royar
1949 - 2010
Mrs. Royar passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at her residence. She was born February 19, 1949, in Ft. Worth, to Doak Capps Melear Jr. and Mary Kathlyn Parker Melear. She married John Allen Royar Sr. on June 2, 1979, in Ft. Worth.
Mrs. Royar moved to Alba from New Mexico 12 years ago. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and a medical secretary. She started the Monthly Community Lunch at Alba United Methodist Church and worked for the Alba-Golden Federal Credit Union for ten years.
Survivors include husband of 31 years, John Royar, Alba; sons, Garry Wayne Hargis of Augusta, Georgia, Brian Scott Hargis of Aiken, South Carolina, John Allen Royar Jr. of Alba and Paul Douglas Royar of Killeen; daughter, Mindy Kay Royar of Alba; and seven grandchildren.

Robert Stevens
1924 - 2010
Mr. Stevens was born in Texarkana, Arkansas on May 14, 1924, to Marvin Glynn and Minnie Jester Stevens. He married Anna Lou Talbot on September 11, 1944, in Port Naches. She preceded him in death in 1994.
He was a master plumber and owned his own plumbing business in the Dallas area for many years.
Survivors include his sons, Lonnie Stevens and wife Bettie of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, Terry Stevens and wife Jeanette of Palestine, Scott Stevens and wife Kathy of Wills Point; brother, James Stevens of Lake Cherokee; sisters, Barbara Maxwell of Denison, Glenda Scott; grandchildren, Cindy Stewart, Jerry Stevens, Terry Stevens, Holly Jensen, Derek Stevens, Brandon Stevens; eight great-grandchildren; numerous other family; and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife and one sister, Joyce Ann Stevens.

Arvis Garland Asbill
1923 – 2011
Funeral services for Arvis Garland Asbill, 87, of Sulphur Springs were conducted April 15 at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ray Eastridge officiating.
Interment was at Elm Cemetery with John Blalock, Norman Decker, Kyle Greeney, Brandon Crowson, Robert Gable and Terry Carter serving as pallbearers.
Mr. Asbill died on Monday, April 11, 2011, at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital.
He was born on July 10, 1923, in Emory, the son of Houston and Dora (Jones) Asbill.
He married Gloria Ann England who preceded him in death in 1986.
Mr. Asbill was a retired minister. He also retired as a G.E.D. teacher, was a member of the American Baptist Association and was affiliated with Elm Baptist Church.
He served in the United States Army during WWII.
He is survived by daughters, Jo Blalock and husband John of Sulphur Springs, Lee Ann Daniels Decker and husband Norman of Edgewood; grandchildren, Amanda and Brandon Crowson of Quitman, Brandon and Jennifer Woodson of Sulphur Springs, Kristin and Robert Gable of Emory, Alissa and Ricky Phillips of Point and Kyle and Jennifer Greeney of Glen Heights; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Alton Asbill and Thurman Asbill.

Charles Gore
1951 – 2011
Charles Gore, 59, of Emory died on April 10, 2011, at his home. He was born November 18, 1951, in Gainesville to Willie Joe and Joyce Elizabeth Gore.
He served in the U.S. Air Force and worked as a remodeler.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Gore, Emory; son, Jay McAbee, Bryan; daughters, Charity Lehman, Omaha, Neb., and Ginger Shocklee, Wylie; sister, Joy Beth Pinto, Waco; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by first wife, Barbara; and son, Jodie Gore.
James “Jim” Theodore Feistner
1961 – 2011
Funeral services for James Theodore “Jim” Feistner, 49, of East Tawakoni will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 19, at Harvest Bible Church in Cash. Officiating will be Scoutmaster Gene Carista, Bro. Robert Burns, Bro. Brad Strand and Boy Scout Troop #393. Burial will follow in Emory City Cemetery.
Jim died April 14, 2011. He was born June 7, 1961, in Madison, South Dakota, the son of Martin and Audrey Louise (Larson) Feistner.
He married Teresa Ann Jennings in East Tawaloni on June 30, 1990. He was employed with Massengale Mechanical Construction as a shop foreman.
Jim was an Assistant Scoutmaster for Emory Boy Scout Troop #393. He dearly loved working with the Scouts and other youth activities. He will be truly missed by the youth in Rains County and by everyone whose path he crossed.
Survivors include wife, Teresa; daughter, Casey LeAnn Feistner; son, John Martin Feistner, all of East Tawakoni; sisters, Sandra Kavanaugh of Hunting Station, New York, and Jeanne Matthews of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; father, Martin Feistner of Madison, South Dakota; many other family members; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother; and one brother, Scott Feistner.
Memorials may be made to a “Love Fund for the family of Jim Feistner” at the 1st National Bank of Emory.

Debra Briggs Harvey
1955 – 2011
Debra Briggs Harvey, 56, of Emory died at her residence early on the morning of Tuesday, April 12, 2011.
Mrs. Harvey was born in Tyler on January 6, 1955, to John and Doris Wren Briggs.She was a homemaker, mother, and “Nana.”
Survivors include her husband, Herbert Harvey of Emory; daughters, Chasity Bennett (Chad) of Mineola, Niki Crowell (Mark) of Golden, and Terra Hammers (Jason) of Emory; grandchildren, Kristen Smith, Rilee Smith, Michaela McCrary, Jessi Crowell, Isabella Crowell, Alyssa Harvey and Kaden Harvey.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Anthony Harvey in 2000 and Roman Harvey in 2007.
