A graveside service for Wanda Bednar, 76, of Austin was held Friday, Feb. 13, at Turner Cemetery near Emory.
Wanda Bednar died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, at Seton Hospital in Austin.
She was born in Dallas on December 27, 1932, the daughter of Lee and Bertha Mae Weir Bednar.
Austin has been her home for several years.
Survivors include one sister, Wilma Cummings of Gladewater; nieces, Marcy Smith of Gladewater, Vickey Bednar of Gilmer, Bonita Gange of Wichita Falls, and Mary Ann Bednar of Austin; nephews, Mike Cummings of Louisiana and Tommy Lee Bednar of Austin.
Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Lenard Holster
1948 - 2009
Graveside memorial services for Thomas Lenard Holster, 60, of Hawkins, formerly of Alba, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 21, at Concord Cemetery, Hainesville, conducted by the family with Bro. Seth Johnston officiating.
Cremation arrangements are under direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home of Alba.
Mr. Holster passed away Sunday, February 15, 2009, at his residence.
He was born July 4, 1948, in Brownwood to the late Loyd Lenard and Gladys Beatrice Busby Holster. He lived in Alba until moving to Hawkins in 1974. He worked for 20 years on the Henderson Farm as a ranch hand for Mineola Packing. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and three Bronze Stars.
Survivors include daughters, Tonya Jones of Hawkins and Misty Snider and husband, Allen, of Big Sandy; brother, Earl Holster and wife, Bonnie, of Winnsboro; sisters, Carolyn Taylor of Alba, Mary Sisk of Emory, and Sheila Hudson and husband, Danny, of Hawkins; two grandsons, Colton Jones and Cody Jones; three granddaughters, Justice Snider, Leigh Ann Snider, and Natasha Shaw; and many nieces, nephews, and loving friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Sherman Lee Holster and Travis Holster; nephew, Grady Neal Roberts; and grandson, Johnathan Thomas Hudgins.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Friday at the home of Patty Thomas, Hawkins.
The family has requested that memorials be made in his honor to East Texas Hospice, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, TX 75701.
Sandra Kay Trumble
1942 - 2009
Funeral service for Sandra Kay Trumble, 66, of Point will be held Wednesday, February 18, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Point. A private burial will be held at the Trumble Cemetery.
Mrs. Trumble died Monday, February 16, 2009, at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Como on December 3, 1942, to Jeff Ector and Winona Lorraine Yarborough Taylor Jr.
Mrs. Trumble was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Point. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.
She is survived by daughters, Lora Gowin of Point and Connie Dickson and husband, Brandon, of Royse City; sons, Joseph Trumble of Alamogordo, New Mexico and John Trumble of Point; step-daughters, Pam Causey and husband, Jerry, of Caddo Mills, Gina Pruitt of Dirby, Kansas, and LaTonna Caccamo of Illinois; step-son, Joe Allen Trumble of Point; mother, Lorraine Westbrook of Sulphur Springs; sister, V’Annis Grimes and husband, Ray, of Martin Springs; 16 grandchildren and one on the way; two great-grandchildren; and numerous other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father in 1982, one sister in 1984, one brother in 1994, and one son, Windell Gowin Jr. in 2001.

Arversia Woosley
1912 - 2009
Services for Arversia Woosley, 96, were held Saturday, February 14, at 2:00 p.m. at Prairie Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Woosley died Thursday, February 5, at a rehabilitation center in Baytown. She was born in Como, Hopkins County, to George and Parlie Sims on December 7, 1912. She was the last of eight children born to that union.
Arversia attended Hopkins County Elementary in Como, and completed her education at Sand Flat under the leadership of J.W. Cullen in Emory.
At an early age she gave her life to Christ and was baptized as a member of Independent Baptist Church. She later united with the Prairie Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she was an active and faithful member of the Sunday school department, choir, usher board, was named a Mission Sister where she faithfully went out and prayed for the sick and shut ins. In 1947 she became a member of the Eastern Star organization. Dedicated to her county, in her spare time she volunteered at Sand Flat School working with small children.
On September 15, 1935, she married Deacon Willie Woosley They shared 57 years together.
Survivors include her daughter, Bettie Woosley Lockhart of Crosby; god-daughters, Helen Jackson of Denver, Colorado, and Gladys Ruth Pruitt of Vallejo, California; god-son, George Jackson Jr. of Dallas; six grandchildren, Iakia Woosley, Lakesha Lockhart, Chanice Lockhart-Barnes, Jahmal Lockhart (Kathy), Anna Marshall (Gary), James D. Lockhart (LaSonya); 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband on August 16, 1992; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Sims; three sisters, Elleary Ford, Georgia Lue Jackson and Aretha Barnett; four brothers, Jay Mercy, Cornelius, Matthew and Theodious Sims.

Lela Arlene Hass

Services for Lela Arlene Hass, 86, Alba, were held Friday, March 13, at Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home Chapel, Alba, with Rev. Waymon ‘Shorty’ Hass and Bro. Keith Cogburn officiating. Burial was in Pilgrim Rest No. 1 Cemetery, Emory.
Pallbearers were Asa Staley Jr., John Staley, Jackie Staley, Tony Grisham, Drew Henson, John Reid, and Douglas Hass. Honorary pallbearer was Harris D. Hass.
Mrs. Hass passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2009, in a Quitman hospital.
Mrs. Hass was born November 21, 1922, in Wood County to the late Emmitt and Nodie Hurley Attaway. She married Charles Henry ‘C.H.’ Hass March 2, 1940, in Emory. They had been married 63 years when he passed away on November 24, 2003. She was a lifelong resident of Alba, a housewife, and a member of Gunter Assembly of God.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Henry and Helen Hass of Alba, Waymon ‘Shorty’ and Francis Hass of Prosper; daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Steve Nichols of Plano, Verdie and Perry Henson of Whitehouse, Kay and Randy Blackford of Alba; brother and sister-in-law, Emmitt ‘Jr’ and Shirley Attaway of Waco; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, LaVerle Martin and Sybill Hewett; and brother, Belton ‘Pete’ Attaway.

Sherilyn O’Donnell

Memorial services for Sherilyn M. O’Donnell, 60, of Dallas were held Friday, March 13, at Church of the Incarnation, Dallas, and Saturday at Alba United Methodist Church.
Ms. O’Donnell passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at her residence.
She was born April 6, 1948, in Lubbock to the late Oscar Eugene and Erna T. Smith Moore. She was a beloved schoolteacher in the Dallas area and was ‘Mom’ to many kids other than her own.
Survivors include sons James O’Donnell and wife Linda of Alba, and Shannon O’Donnell of Houston; and grandchildren, Bryce and Lauren O’Donnell.
She was preceded in death by her brother James Moore.

Winter Elizabeth Steele

Funeral services for Winter Elizabeth Steele, 6, of Emory, were held Friday, March 13, at Freedom Church of God. Burial was in Smyrna Cemetery. Pallbearers were Levi Steele, Jeremy Steele, Preston Miller John Parrish, Matt Essary and Eric Essary. Honorary pallbearers were Richard Steele and Lee Reyes.
Winter died Monday, March 9, 2009, at Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler.
She was born December 16, 2002, in Springfield, Mo., to Brandalyn Steele. She was a prec-ious child, dearly loved by her family.
Her survivors include her mother, Brandalyn Steele; sister, Samantha Steele; grandmother, Jo Ann Steele all of Emory; uncles, Jeremy Steele, John Steele Jr., and Levi Steele; aunt, Tabitha Steele; great-grandmother, Ann Miller of Emory; several other great-uncles and great-aunts; and numerous other family and friends.
Little Winter was preceded in death by her granddaddy, John Steele Sr. “Pa Daddy” in 2007; and great-granddaddy, Thomas Miller “Great Pa” in 2009.

Billy Don Harris
1945 - 2009
Services for Billy Don Harris were held on May 22 at First Assembly of God Church in Malakoff.
Mr. Harris was born in Gilmer on November 26, 1945. He died on May 19, 2009, in Dallas. Interment was in the Post Oak Cemetery in Malakoff.
He lived in Sunnyvale before moving to Emory, where he lived for the last 10 years and enjoyed farming.
Mr. Harris is survived by a very special love, Sherry Wright of Frisco; son, Jimmy Harris and wife Teresa of Royse City; daughters, Tammy and husband Jim Jenkins of Grand Prairie, Stacy and husband Richard Wiegel of Forney; brother, Red Harris and wife Vera of Sunny-vale; four sisters, Lawana Bryant of Bridgeport, Sue Richardson of Diana, Shirley McDonald of Emory and Eva Fleming of Garland; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Parker and Sally Harris; and his wife of 40 years, Patricia, in 2005.

Bobby Gene McQueen

Services for Bobby Gene McQueen, 69, Alba, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 20, at KJV Lighthouse Baptist Church, Alba, with Bro. Byron George officiating.
Burial was in Holland Cemetery, Yantis, under direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home, Alba. Pallbearers were Shannon Jennings, Shane Jennings, Michael Briggs, Mike McQueen, Glenn Jones, Kenneth Anglin and Mike Young.
Mr. McQueen passed away Saturday, May 16, 2009, at a Tyler hospice.
He was born April 4, 1940, in Rains County to the late William “Bill” Joseph and Ruby Lucille Worthington McQueen. He was a farmer, a life-long resident of Alba, and a member of KJV Lighthouse Baptist Church.
Survivors include son, Greg McQueen, Troutdale, Ore.; daughters, Debbie Grant, Fishertown, Pennsylvania, Kim Cernac, Scappoose, Oregon, and Renee McQueen, Vancouver, Washington; brothers, Thomas McQueen, Mineola, Willie Earl McQueen, Emory, Connie McQueen, Ardmore, Oklahoma, and Russell McQueen, Bald Knob, Arkansas; sisters, Maggie West, Dallas, Sadie Smith, Quinlan, Dorothy Iserna, Rowlett, Kathy Turner, Royse City, and Kay Roberts, Wills Point; long-time companion, Dorothy Briggs, Alba; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Truman McQueen, Billy Joe McQueen, and Homer McQueen; sister, Dianna Stogner; and five infant brothers and sisters.
