Cowden
Walter P. “Lucky” Cowden Jr., 39, died Friday, March 14, 2003 in Irving.
Mr. Cowden was born Nov. 22, 1963 in Three Rivers. He married Rea Hopson on April 21, 2000 and has lived in Irving the past nine years. He was a diesel mechanic.
Survivors include his wife, Rea; his children, Jessika, Josh and Jeremy, all of Kiowa, Okla. and Cory, Tiffany and Justin, all of Irving; his mother, Liz Pittmon of Lake Dallas; stepfather, T.J. Pittmon of Pasadena; father, Walter P. Cowden Sr. of Whitney; a brother, Guy Earl Cowden of Houston; a sister, Rose Wigham of Blanket; mother-in-law, Bertha Robison of Grapevine; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Kathy and Joe Powell of Aubrey, Debbie Rose and Keith Brewer of Grapevine, Christy and Jason Samples and Dewayne and Sherry Hopson, all of Hurst; one aunt, Joan Pullin of Three Rivers; and three uncles, Earn and Kathy Clifton of Three Rivers, Bill and Melissa Clifton of Corpus Christi and Robert and Towanda Clifton of Orange Grove.
Mr. Cowden was preceded in death by his grandmother, Judy Clifton of Three Rivers.
A memorial service was held at Donnelly’s Colonial Funeral Home Chapel in Irving on Sunday, March 16. The moderator was Carolyn Dennis.
Arrangements were under the direction of Donnelly’s Colonial Funeral Home, Irving.
Carman
Robert Lee Carman, 66, of Beeville, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003.
He was born on Sept. 18, 1936, in Paintersville, Ohio, to Wayne and Mary (Pendell) Carman. He went to school in Bowersville, Ohio, and graduated in 1954. He was retired from the U.S. Navy, where he served from 1958 to 1978, and completed three missions in Vietnam.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Ronald Wayne Carman; and his former wife, Roberta (Ross) Carman.
Survivors include two sons, Robert (Sonja) Carman of George West and Douglas (Kim) Carman of Centersville, Ohio; one daughter, Tammy Jo Carman of Hillsboro, Ohio; five grandchildren, Derrick, Kindess, Joe, Keri and Jake; his mother-in-law, Eloise Ferguson of Odem; one brother Jerry (Mickie) Carman of Las Vegas, Nev.; one sister, Wanda Carman Long of Xenia, Ohio; and a stepson, Len Kuykendall of Harahan, La.
Visitation was held Friday at the Galloway and Sons Chapel in Beeville. The funeral was held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the chapel. Burial followed in Beeville Memorial Park.

Harris
Annie Lee (Hinton) Harris, 92, of Pettus, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, in Pettus.
Mrs. Harris was born in Kenedy on May 29, 1911, to Fred and Mollie (Miller) Hinton. She married Rufus Fern Harris on Oct. 5, 1940, in Beeville. She was a homemaker and a member of the United Methodist Church of Pettus. She was a former justice of the peace in Karnes County, served as a Pink Lady at Beeville Memorial Hospital and was the owner-operator of a beauty salon in Pettus. Mrs. Harris was also a quilt maker.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one son, Rufus Fred Harris; one daughter, Marilee (Harris) Chapline; three brothers, Guy, Allen and Lee Hinton; and three sisters, Ione (Hinton) Jones, Patty (Hinton) Ketchum and Gertrude Hinton.
Mrs. Harris is survived by one grandson, Grant Chapline of Beeville; one granddaughter, Regina Chapline of Austin; a son-in-law, Gene (Josie) Chapline of George West; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held today (Wednesday) from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Galloway & Sons Chapel in Beeville. The funeral will be tomorrow (Thursday) at 10 a.m. at the chapel, with Pastor Randy Warren officiating. Burial will follow in Beeville’s Glenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Greg Billings, Sam Billings, Ross Harris, Jimmy Harris, Johnny Harris and Ray Harris Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Harris Sr. and Jesse Johnson.
Special music will include “How Great Thou Art,” “Amazing Grace” and “The Lord’s Prayer.”

Mach
Laddie Mach, 75, of the Simmons community, died Monday, Aug. 11, 2003, in a Corpus Christi hospital following an extended illness.
Mr. Mach was a WWII veteran, serving in the Air Force. He was retired from his job as an oilfield worker.
Survivors include one son, Donnie Mach of Belton; two daughters, Cindy Ann Keliehor and Cathy Peterson, both of Alice; two brothers, Eddie Mach of Needville and Emil Mach of Longview; two sisters, Mildred Pasteka of Needville and Vlasta Bubenik of Stafford; six grandchildren, Kristel Schwintz, Amber and Chance Peterson, and Tommy, Bryan and Stephen Mach; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Thursday, Aug. 14, in the Roberson Funeral Home Chapel in Three Rivers. The funeral was held Friday, Aug. 15, at 10 a.m. in the chapel. Burial followed in the Simmons Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Chance Peterson, Tommy Mach, Shane Teague, Mark Mach, Gerald Teague, Andy Peterson and Michael Keliehor.
Honorary pallbearers were Ira D. Redding and George Fischer.

Riggs
Robert Stanley Riggs, 75, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at his residence in Three Rivers. Mr. Riggs was born Dec. 23, 1927, in Selma, Iowa. He was a retired insurance company underwriter, a retired journalist and an avid piano player.
Survivors include his wife, Charlene Nible Riggs, of Three Rivers.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, Three Rivers.
Goza
John Maynard Goza Sr., 63, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services will take place Friday at 10:30 a.m. at that location, with the Revs. Ken Walker and Brian Simon officiating. Special music will include “In the Garden” and “In His Time,” with vocalist Ron Bissett.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Tim, Warren, Jennie, Andrea and Nicki Goza and Robyn Delgado. Honorary pallbearers will be W.J. Kidd, Hollis Scott, Walter Henry, Rex Lewis, Charles Freeze, Garland Bramblett and Lt. Ben Anderson.
Mr. Goza was born on Feb. 2, 1940, to John Irving and Jennie Lucille Goza. He married Ruth Ellen Walker on Dec. 5, 1958, in Normanna Baptist Church. He was a meter technician for Arco Oil and Gas and retired in 1992 after having worked there 26 years. He then went to work for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, where he worked in transportation as a driver for five years. He was a member of Normanna Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Ellen Walker Goza of Normanna; two sons, John Maynard Goza Jr. and wife Sheryl and Timothy Wade Goza and wife Betty, all of Normanna; a sister, Helen Bissett and husband Ray of Beeville; seven grandchildren, Robyn Delgado and husband Kirk of Beeville, Jennie, Andrea, Tim, Nicki and Erik Goza, all of Normanna, and Warren Goza of Brookshire; and two nephews, Ron Bissett of Weslaco and Rick Bissett of Houston.
Memorials may be sent to the Normanna Baptist Church.

Perkins
Mable Rebecca (Jackson) “Becky” Perkins, 61, of Ganado, died Thursday, July 24, 2003.
She was born Nov. 7, 1941, to James Frank and Anna Mae (Lloyd) Jackson in Laredo. She married Franklin Ed Davis in 1958. She later married Ronnie Perkins on July 2, 1988, in Florida.
Mrs. Perkins was a secretary, employed by H.B. Zachry from 1979 to 1985. She was a member of the Baptist church.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Perkins is survived by her first husband, Franklin Ed Davis; her second husband, Ronnie Perkins; two daughters, Patricia Davis of Austin and Vivian (Scooter) Davis of George West; four stepdaughters, Misty Perkins, Brittany Perkins, Sharron Perkins and Sylvianna Perkins; four sons, Jimmy D. (Donna) Davis, Fred Lee (Fanny) Davis, Aubrey (Missie) Davis and Rodney Jay Davis, all of George West; and one stepson, Ronnie Perkins. She is also survived by two brothers, Ronnie Jay Jackson and Rodney Ray Jackson; three stepsisters, Catherine Jackson, Billie Jackson and Carol Jackson; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Sunday, July 27, 2003 at the Ganado Funeral Home in Ganado. Burial followed at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Edna, with the Rev. Ronald G. Edwards officiating.
Pallbearers were Jason Peters, Alex Douglas, Todd Thompson, Patrick Panel, Kenneth Nairn and Marvin Curtis. Honorary pallbearers were her grandsons.
Memorial donations may be sent to the Hospice of South Texas.

Waller
Clarella (Freeman) Waller, 89, of Jourdanton, passed away Sunday, August 10, 2003, in Jourdanton.
Mrs. Waller was born on Dec. 13, 1913, in Oklaunion, Okla., to Amanda and Ranse “Shorty” Freeman. She was the eldest of 11 children.
Mrs. Waller married Leonard H. “Skinnie” Waller on Oct. 3, 1932.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers, R.W. Freeman and A. Allison Freeman; and three sisters, Rose Ella Freeman, Patricia “Pige” Fuller and Mary Alpha Robison.
She is survived by two daughters, Anna Maureen (Robert) “Bob” Capt of Plano and Mary Kathryn (John) “Butch” White of Jourdanton; one brother, Carl Walton (Jeanette) Freeman of Three Rivers; four sisters, Ethyl Hickman of Corpus Christi, Ivas Joan (Harry) Smith of Morgan City, La., Janice Engle of Blanco and Jane Zavisch of Three Rivers; a sister-in-law, Virginia R. Freeman of Elgin; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Waller is also survived by six grandchildren, Emery Capt, Dianna (Capt) Varieur, Robert L. Capt, Barbara (White) Broll, Kathy Jo (White) Franklin and Debbie White; and eight great-grandchildren, Christina Boggs, Angie Capt, Anna Capt, William P. Capt, Landry Carlton, Casey Broll, Gage Franklin and Haleigh Franklin.
Visitation will be held at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton from 2 to 8 p.m. this evening (Wednesday). The funeral service will be at First Baptist Church in Three Rivers at 10 a.m. Thursday, with Weldon Harris officiating. Interment will be at the Three Rivers City Cemetery.
