Garza
Johnny T. Garza, 38, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at the Ennis Regional Medical Center in Ennis.
Mr. Garza was born on March 11, 1965, in Juarez, Mexico, to Guadalupe and Eva Luna Garza. He was reared in Waxahachie and Alvin where he attended school. He was employed by Diversified Ceramics in Alvin. He moved to George West, where he was in construction for seven years.
He married Elizabeth Zapata. In September 2002, they moved to Ennis. At the time of his death, he was the assistant manager of Subway. He was a member of the Faith Assembly Church.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Zapata of Ennis; three daughters, Claudia, Clarissa and Clara Garza of Ennis; his father, Guadalupe Garza of Moorehead, Minn.; his mother, Eva Garza of Ennis; four brothers, Efrain Garza and Nathan Garza of Ennis, Jose Garza of Rockett and Lupe Garza of Beaumont; four sisters, Betty Widener of Florissant, Colo., Mary Martinez of Waxahachie, Naomi Garza and Cassandra Garza, both of Ennis; a grandmother, Nettie Luna of Phoenix, Ariz.; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday in the Keever Chapel in Ennis, with the Rev. Kenneth Hill officiating. Interment was in the Chatfield Cemetery in Chatfield under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary.

McCelvey
Brett McCelvey, 45, of Dilley died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, in San Antonio.
Visitation was held at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 23. Funeral services were at First Baptist Church in Cotulla at 2 p.m. Sept. 24. Interment followed at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Devine.
Pallbearers were Herb Bourquin, Jeff Friesenhan, Joey Friesenhan, Ronnie Friesenhan and Wayne and Wayde Swaim.
Mr. McCelvey was the son of James “Rex” and Minerva (Swaim) McCelvey. He is also survived by his daughter, Cassiday Ann McCelvey of San Antonio; three sons, Brett Jr., James Rex and Charles Houston McCelvey, all of Dilley; a brother, Lynn McCelvey and wife DaSha of Dilley; a niece, Lyndsey McCelvey of San Antonio; two nephews, Justin McCelvey of San Antonio and Lando McCelvey of Dilley; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R.D. McCelvey of San Marcos.
Arrangements were handled through Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton.

Zepeda
Miguel “Mike” Zepeda, 78, of Corpus Christi died on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003.
Mr. Zepeda served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945. He assisted in the liberation of the Philippine Islands, and left the Army with an honorable discharge. He worked for Reynolds Metals Company until his retirement in 1984.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Yndalecio and Guadalupe Zepeda, and a brother, Joe Zepeda.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nina Zepeda of Corpus Christi; his daughters, Lupe Zepeda of New Knoxville, Ohio, Alma Zepeda of Houston, Rosie (Andres) Barboza and Debbie Tamez of Corpus Christi and Irma (Danny) Mendoza of Jourdanton; four brothers, Sylvestre (Angie) Zepeda and Albert (Elvira) Zepeda, all of Corpus Christi, Paul Zepeda of Sinton and Yndalecio (Yolanda) Zepeda of Three Rivers; two sisters, Beatrice Ortiz and Maria David (Daniel) Guerrero of San Antonio; six grandchildren, Alex Tamez, Nina Tamez, Michael Barboza, Christina Barboza, Stephanie Guana and Daphne Mendoza; two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Samuel Gauna; and one sister-in-law, Juana Zepeda of Austin.
Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Funeral Home in Corpus Christi.
Rites of a Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Corpus Christi.

Simmons
Mary Lou (Lopez) Simmons, 54, died Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at Nix Hospital in San Antonio.
Mrs. Simmons was born Oct. 2, 1947, to Estella (Chapa) and Aurelio Lopez of Three Rivers.
She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Three Rivers, English congregation. She helped many friends and acquaintances to better understand her religious beliefs. She was a comfort to all and never turned anyone away in their time of need.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Survivors include her husband, Heston Simmons; her mother, Estella Lopez; one son, Phillip (Dina) Simmons; two granddaughters, Sara and Salena Simmons; one sister, Adelita (Lopez) Conard; and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses U.S. Hwy. 281.

Bowen
David Thomas Bowen, 64, of Sandia died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, in an Alice hospital. Mr. Bowen was born Aug. 11, 1938, in Post to Thomas and Bess Bowen. He was a retired trucking supervisor for the Pool Company.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Bowen of Sandia; two daughters, Deborah Wall and Denise Strickland, both of Sandia; one brother, Charles R. (Juanita) Bowen of Quito, Equador; three grandchildren, Courtney Commander, Jennifer McClane and Jonathan Wall.
The funeral was held this morning (Wednesday) at 10 o’clock at the Holmgreen Mortuary chapel in Alice. Burial followed in the Alice Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Holmgreen Mortuary, Alice.

Reagan
Bob Reagan, 89, of Three Rivers died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, in Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville.
Mr. Reagan was born June 24, 1913, in Oakville to Eula Louise (Cleveland) and L.A. “Rocky” Reagan Sr. He married Ann Storm in Premont on Dec. 6, 1939. He was a lifelong rancher, member of the Methodist church and a former Live Oak County sheriff.
A graveside service was held at the Oakville Cemetery on Wednesday, Sept. 18, with the Rev. Bill Duke officiating. Pallbearers were Thad Moore, Mark Bledsoe, Scotty Bledsoe, Richard Moore, Wesley Reagan, Rocky Reagan III, Jack Seals Jr. and Pat Seals.
Honorary pallbearers were Kenneth Naylor, Sam Huff, Buford Dugger, Willie Esse, Woodrow Whitmire, Roscoe Turner, Ysabel Gonzales, Mike Capron, Nolan Ryan, Reid Ryan and Reese Ryan.
Mr. Reagan was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Reagan, on April 19, 1990; a daughter, Jenny Bess; and a grandson, Rocky Lee Reagan.
Survivors include his son, Rocky Reagan of Marble Falls; four grandchildren, Paul Bob Reagan of Valencia, Calif., Lee Ann Barker and Nikki Martinez, both of Oakville, and Ned Thayer of Marble Falls; seven great-grandchildren, Trent Martinez, Oren Barker, Robert Martinez, Maylee Martinez, Amber Martinez, Wade Barker and Kelley Barker; and three sisters, Lucy Moore and Marjorie Bledsoe, both of Oakville, and Evelyn Seals of Beeville.

Johnson
John M. “Jack” Johnson, 85, died Saturday, March 8, 2003, in George West. He was born Dec. 26, 1917, in Clover, Utah, to Mark Anthony and Elizabeth Ellen (Maxwell) Johnson. He married Merlyn Margaret Manhart on Sept. 23, 1939, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Mr. Johnson grew up on the family ranch in the Ophir, Utah, area, where he attended school in Ophir and Tooele, Utah. He worked in the mining industry and at the time of his retirement, was superintendent for Homestake Mining Company in Grants, N.M.
Survivors include his wife, Merlyn; his daughters, Mary Ellen (Glen) Orr of George West, Jacqueline Grace (Knollie) Sell of Deadwood, S.D., Kathleen (Bill) Stambaugh of Sheridan, Wyo., and heart-adopted daughter, Marline Casey of Albuquerque, N.M.; 16 grandchildren; Margaret Orr (Robert) Solis, Lester (Fiona) Orr, Scott (Beth) Orr, Cindy Orr Scotten, Otto Orr, Matt Orr, John Sell, Geralyn Sell (Ray) Seng, Jacqueline Sell, Susanna Sell (Eric) Pennes, Thomas Sell, Molly Sell, Mark Hately, Jennifer (Mitch) Beranek, Linda Casey (Roy) Henson and Steve (Judy) Casey; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Grant (Myrtle) Orr of Ogden, Utah; a sister-in-law, Olive Johnson of Grants, N.M.; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Orr was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, five sisters and a beloved friend, Leslie Casey.
Burial was in Fort Collins, Colo.
Arrangements were under the direction of Allnut Funeral Home.
At the time of his death, he and Merlyn were living with their daughter, Mary Ellen.

Patten
Diana Mae Patten, 76, died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at her home in Corpus Christi after a long illness. She was born May 20, 1926, in Wichita, Kan., to Ralph and Mattie Edwards.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, C.T. “Whitey” Patten; a son, Robert “Bob” Patrick (Cheryl) Patten; a daughter, Faye (Leo) Martinez; six grandchildren, Christopher Gallet, Dewayne Patten, Denise Simmons, Jana Gallet, Patrick Patten and Bonnie Patten; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ralph (Sharon) Edwards of Pearland and Bob (Wanda) Edwards of Fort Worth; two sisters, Lula Hunter of Corpus Christi and Helen Dupree of Houston; and one aunt, Pearl Kenesic of Fort Worth.
Mrs. Patten was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Dennis Edwards, and a son, Donald Patten.
Mrs. Patten and her husband built a “hot shot” company in 1963, Whitey Patten Hot Shot Service.
Visitation was held Tuesday in the Sawyer-George Funeral Home in Corpus Christi. The funeral was conducted at 10 a.m. this morning (Wednesday) in Arlington Heights Church of Christ with Gene Polvado and Gary Lowe officiating. Burial followed in Robstown Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Marcos Hernandez, Patrick Patten, Bruce Krietsch, Richard Atkinson, Brandon Simmons and Claude Zottich. Honorary pallbearers were Ray Krietsch, Dewayne Patten and Leo Martinez.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Arlington Heights Church of Christ in memory of Diana Patten, 2722 Rand Morgan Road, Corpus Christi, TX 78410.
Arrangements were under the direction of Sawyer-George Funeral Home, Corpus Christi.
