Schneider
Ray (Hill) Schneider, 98, of George West died Friday, March 28, 2003. She was born Dec. 22, 1904, in Groesbeck to Joseph Robertson and Nora (Livingston) Hill. She married Robert Edward Schneider Jr. in Houston on Sept. 29, 1932.
Mrs. Schneider was a homemaker and a member of the Church of The Good Shepherd. She was on the board of the George West Cemetery Association, Altar Guild Directors and a member of the Bishop Committee and the Unify to Beautify organization.
Survivors include a son, J.R. “Bob” (Gina) Schneider of George West; a daughter, Betty L. Smith of George West; two sisters, Elizabeth Phillips of George West and Dorothy Robinson of Galveston; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Schneider was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert Edward Schneider Jr.; and a sister, Sue Metts.
The funeral was held Monday at the Church of The Good Shepherd in George West with Ben Wright officiating. Violinist was Eugene Dowdy. Burial followed in the George West Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Rob Schneider, Jeffrey Smith, Dwayne McWilliams, John Bednorz, Travis Martin and C.J. Sehlke. Honorary pallbearers were Harry L. Linney, Holman Massey, Brooks Schley and Leonard Smith.

Treviño
Evaristo Eloy Treviño, 24, died Sunday, March 30, 2003, in San Antonio. He was born Feb. 8, 1979, in San Benito to Rafael S. and JoAnn (Garcia) Treviño. He was a sub-contractor and was also employed by Joshua Pools & Contracting.
Mr. Treviño was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Olga S. and Roman Treviño.
Survivors include his mother, JoAnn Rabideau of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; his father, Rafael Treviño of Santa Rosa; a son, Anthony Fussel of San Antonio; maternal grandparents, Alex and Sylvia Garcia of Three Rivers; two sisters, Mandie Ybañez and Sylvia Treviño, both of Baytown; a brother, Ralph Treviño of Baytown; four nieces; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held today (Wednesday) from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Galloway & Sons Chapel in Three Rivers. Rosary will be recited this evening at 7:30 at the chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Three Rivers with Father Piotr Gajda officiating. Burial will follow at the Three Rivers Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jason Muñiz, Waylon Rhodes, Lionel Treviño, Albert Treviño, Mike Ruiz and David Garcia.

Minnie May (Shafer) Anderson
Minnie May (Shafer) Anderson, 96, of George West, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003.
Mrs. Anderson was born Feb. 3, 1907, to George and Mary (Allen) Shafer of Lake Arthur, La. She married Harold E. Anderson on Sept. 6, 1941, in George West. She taught elementary school for 40 years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in George West, where she served as church secretary, treasurer and attendance clerk. Mrs. Anderson was also active in the Pastor’s Aid Society, Missionary Society, WSCS, UMW and the Pollyanna Sunday school class. She belonged to the Oakville Chapter of the Eastern Star (No. 521), where she served as a past Worthy Matron. She was also a member of the Live Oak Study Club and a past volunteer for the American Red Cross, the Grace Armantrout Museum, and served as a Blue Angel volunteer for the George West Nursing Center.
She resided in George West since 1927.
Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and two brothers.
Survivors include one daughter, Maribelle A. (Frank) Spellmann of George West; two grandchildren, Eric Ray (Andrea) Spellmann of Amarillo and Kathy Sue (Alan) Hessler of Vallejo, Calif.; and six great-grandchildren, Quinn, Kelsey, Kaden, Kirsten, Chloe and Cross.
Visitation was held Friday, Sept. 19, at the Galloway & Sons Chapel in George West. The funeral was held Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in George West, with the Rev. Mel Hazelwood officiating. Nancy McKinney served as organist and Vicki Riser led the singing. Burial followed in the George West Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Lamon Bennett, August Caron Jr., Chris Caron, Gene Riser, Jim Warren and Harry Wright. Honorary pallbearers were Tige Brown, Harry Linney and Richard May.

Gregory
Barbara Louise (Lippard) Gregory, 76, died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, after a battle with cancer.
Mrs. Gregory was born Feb. 24, 1927, in Taft to Clinton Sr. and Florence (Willis) Lippard. She grew up on the family farm at Karon. She attended school at Votaw before graduating from George West High School in 1946. She attended nursing school at the old Beeville hospital and became a licensed vocational nurse in 1952. She worked in Beeville and Hondo until 1976.
Mrs. Gregory married Russell A. Gregory in Beeville on March 31, 1952. They were both members of the Three Rivers Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Clara Patsy Colwell, and a son, Russell C. Gregory.
Survivors include her husband, Rusty; a daughter, Patsy (Lonnie) Wiemers of Hondo; three grandchildren, Colleen (Kevin) Zinsmeyer of Castroville, Farrah (James Neuman) Wiemers of Hondo; and Russell G. Gregory of Phoenix, Ariz.; three great-grandchildren, Tyler and Rainee Neuman and Tristan Zinsmeyer; a brother, Clinton (Carolyn) Lippard Jr. of Luling and Willis (Anna) Lippard of Monroe, N.H.; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held Monday at Roberson Funeral Chapel in Three Rivers. The funeral was at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the Church of Christ in Three Rivers.
Interment followed at the Three Rivers Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Gregory to the Church of Christ in Three Rivers or the American Cancer Society.

Miguel Benavides
Miguel Benavides, 87, of Three Rivers, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003 at Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville.
Mr. Benavides was born in Pleasanton on Jan. 16, 1916. He married Vence Toscano in Jourdanton in 1939. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was in the lawn maintenance business.
Mr. Benavides was preceded in death by his wife, Vence, on Sept. 6, 1976; a son, Miguel Benavides Jr.; a daughter, Margaret Benavides; two sisters; and three brothers.
Survivors include three daughters, Alice (Marcos) Cruz of Three Rivers, Linda (Robert) Martinez of Portland and Diana (Raymond) Peña of Victoria; two sons, George (Irma) Benavides of Alice and Benny (Laura) Benavides of Corpus Christi; two sisters, Lupe Toscano of Sugar Land and Virginia DeLaGarza of Pleasanton; a brother, Rafael Benavides of San Antonio; 19 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Rosary was recited Friday at 7 p.m. at the Galloway & Sons Chapel in Three Rivers. The funeral mass was celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Three Rivers with Father Piotr Gajda officiating. Burial followed in the Campbellton Cemetery, Campbellton.
Pallbearers were Ricky Benavides, Luis Benavides, Tony Benavides, Arnold Beltran Jr., Israel Beltran, Joe Michael Benavides, Alex Edens and Joe Benavides. Honorary pallbearer was Michael Peña.

McCown
Roger Neil McCown, 83, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at his home near Three Rivers. Mr. McCown was born June 9, 1920, to Roy and Verna McCown in Kerrville. He graduated from Jefferson High School and St. Mary’s University. He served in the Army Air Corps at Randolph Field, School of Aviation Medicine, from Jan. 3, 1942 to Nov. 17, 1945.
After being discharged, Mr. McCown and his family moved to Austin where he studied at the University of Texas. Upon completion of his master’s degree, he began teaching at UT. While teaching there, Mr. McCown received a grant from the Rockefeller Foundation to further his studies at Harvard University. Upon completion of his studies there, he returned to teach at UT. Later, Mr. McCown accepted a position as training director for American Founders Life Insurance Company where he helped build the company into a successful enterprise.
Mr. McCown began his private practice as a clinical psychologist and continued to practice until just prior to his death. He also worked with the church from an early age. He served as deacon and later, elder, in University Avenue Church of Christ in Austin. He was also an active member of his church in Three Rivers as long as his health permitted.
Mr. McCown was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Bill.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Nell McCown, of Three Rivers; two daughters, Roxanne (Ben) Keel of Wimberley and Shirley Elkin of Magnolia; a son, Roger Neil McCown II; a granddaughter, Kami (Peter) Thomson of Dickinson; two grandsons, Ben (Harmony) Keel of Denver, Colo., and Mathew Elkin of Magnolia; a step-grandson, Michael (Donna) Elkin of Magnolia; and a great-granddaughter, Lacey of Magnolia.
A memorial service was held Saturday at the Church of Christ in Three Rivers.
Memorials may be made to the Medina Children's Home in Medina or Sunny Glenn Children's Home in San Benito.

Pawlik
George Frank Pawlik, 68, of George West died Oct. 14, 2003. Mr. Pawlik was born Feb. 10, 1935 in George West to Stanley and Justina (Brysch) Pawlik. He married Mary Evelyn Smith on Dec. 8, 1962 in George West.
Mr. Pawlik was retired from the Texas Department of Transportation after 29 years of service and was a life-long farmer and rancher. He was a member of the St. George Catholic Church.
Mr. Pawlik was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Justina Pawlik.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Evelyn Pawlik of George West; a daughter, Catherine Ann (Daniel E.) Barbaro of Portland; two grandchildren, Sam Barbaro and Andrew Barbaro; two brothers, Leonard (Betty) Pawlik and Mitchell (Debby) Pawlik, all of George West; three sisters, Aggie (Henry) Lyssy of San Antonio, Grace McCann of Breckenridge and Gladys Stearns of New Braunfels; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rosary was recited on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Galloway & Sons Chapel in George West. The funeral mass was celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. at the chapel with Father Peter Gajda and Don Jones officiating. Burial followed in the St. George Cemetery in George West.
