Joye Dehnisch Thomas Harris
July 19, 1921 – April 13, 2008
Joye Dehnisch Thomas Harris passed away Sunday, April 13, 2008 at her home in Sinton after a short illness. She was born July 19, 1921 to Robert Joseph and Jamesina Jenkins Dehnisch in Yoakum, Texas and moved to West Sinton with her family in 1925. Joye graduated from Sinton High School and attended Baylor University and the University of Texas.
Her first husband, Alfred W. “Bub” Cherry, Jr. died four months prior to the birth of their son, Alfred “Bubba” Cherry (Thomas) in 1942. In 1950 Joye married Joseph W. “Joe” Thomas of Glen Campbell, PA. Joye and Joe lived in Sinton where both were employed by the Plymouth Oil Company. In 1954, daughter, Joye Lynn was born.
Predeceased by Joe in 1990, Joye married Morris R. “Ray” Harris, Sr. in 1992.
Joye was also preceded in death by her son Bubba Thomas, and husband Ray Harris.
She is survived by her daughter, Joye L. Thomas of Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Florence “Flossie” Thomas; granddaughter Jessica Thomas Bates and husband Tray Bates; grandson, Wendell J. Thomas; all of Sinton and granddaughter, Jennifer Thomas Adams of Zachary, LA. Joye was also blessed with four great grandsons, Austin Adams, Layton Thomas Bates, Walker Thomas, and Blake Thomas Bates.
Joye is also survived by her step-sons Ray Harris, Jr. and wife Jan; John Harris and wife Betty; James Harris and wife Terry and Richard Harris and wife Kathleen, seven step-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren.
Survivors also include her dear friends Eleanor Harren and Robert Dirks.
Joye was a member of Sinton Presbyterian Church, Brush County Cattle Women, the U.S. Tennis Association and an honorary member of the Sinton Rotary Club. She served on the board of the Joe and Joye Thomas, Alfred C. “Bubba” Thomas Library which she gave as a gift to the City of Sinton in honor of Joe and “Bubba” Thomas. Joye was an advocate of a strong education. She was a generous contributor to many educational scholarships and also supplied many students with educational tools including books and supplies for their studies.
In high school, Joye competed in state-level tennis. She participated in the Senior Games and the Senior Olympics where she medaled in tennis. Joye continued to be an avid tennis player and a three time ladies doubles champion at the Bud Collins Hackers Open in Long Boat Key, Florida. Her final championship was achieved at the age of seventy-three.
Joye loved her family, friends, flowers, dancing, baseball, tennis and extensive travel from Hilton Head Island, S.C. to Costa Rica. She was a long-time supporter of Sinton High School athletics and the Corpus Christi Hooks Baseball Team. Joye rarely missed a home game!
Joye could often be seen at lunch at her reserved table at Backstreet Café. Dressed head to toe in her whimsical outfits, Joye coordinated it all with her signature designer sunglasses, purses, shoes and accessories to match. She greeted everyone who walked by and treated each to a laugh with her latest joke or story.
She was a very giving person to all on many occasions with her gifts of flowers, Backstreet chicken salad sandwiches and Sinton’s famous Aunt Aggie De’s Pralines.
A special thanks to long-time employees Lisa Moody and David Perez. The family extends their appreciation to Dr. Frank Dehnisch and associates, the doctors, nurses and staff at Corpus Christi Doctors’ Regional Hospital, Jerry and Glenda Kane of Corpus Christi, M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Vista Care Hospice in Corpus Christi and her primary caretaker, Eleana Salinas, for their care during her illness.
Visitation with family will be held Wednesday, April 16, 2008 from 5:00pm to7:00pm at Resthaven Funeral Home in Sinton.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, April 17, 2008 at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel in Sinton. A graveside service will follow at the Sinton Cemetery following the service.
Memorials may be made to Sinton Presbyterian Church or the Joe and Joye Thomas, Alfred C. “Bubba” Thomas Library in Sinton.
Mrs. Martinez
Otila Martinez, age 90, died on Thursday, April 10, 2008 at Holgate, Ohio following an extended illness.
She was born to Romano and Pinkie (Weston) Chapa in Annarose.
She was preceded in death by parents, four brothers, Gilbert, Earnesto, Frank and Willie Chapa and three sisters, Leanor Chapa, Olivia Mandrell, and Lena Garcia.
Her survivors include a son, Elmo (Aurora) Garza of Alice; a sister, Emilia Franco of Corpus Christi; granddaughter, Maribel Caserez of Defiance, Ohio; 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 15 from 2-8 p.m. at the Roberson Funeral Home Chapel in Alice. Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 16 at 11 a.m. in the Roberson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in the Chapa Family Cemetery in Annarose.

Mrs. Sullivan
Sandra Kathleen Sullivan, 57, of George West, passed on to eternal life on Wednesday, April 9, 2008.
She was born June 11, 1950, in Fort Stockton, Texas, to Tom Clark and Jerry Morgan Clark. She married Redgy Sullivan on July 18, 1972, in Fort Stockton. She cherished her life as a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She led her life by example and was a very fun loving person. She enjoyed working in her home and yard, and enjoyed sharing its beauty with family and friends. Watching her grandsons play sports, show animals, or play in her backyard was a highlight of her life. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in George West. She will be truly missed.
She is survived by her loving husband, Redgy, of George West; two daughters, Tori Lyne and her husband J. of George West and Joanie Sullivan of New Braunfels; three grandchildren, Mason, Conner and Reagan Lyne; her father, Tom Clark of Balmorhea; her mother, Jerry Huggins of Odessa; and numerous family and friends.
Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2008, at Galloway & Sons Chapel of George West. A celebration of her life was held on Saturday, April 12, 2008, at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in George West. Officiating was Douglas A. Hinchcliff. Interment followed at George West Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jim Bennett, Lamon Bennett, Ross Harris, Larry Holm, J. Lyne and Monty Lyne.

Bogenrife
Irene Ledwig Bogenrife, 76, of San Antonio died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003.
Mrs. Bogenrife was born Sept. 1, 1926, in George West to Thomas Ledwig and Eleanora (Sprencel) Ledwig. She was a retired accountant.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Prosper A. Mika whom she married Jan. 20, 1947, in George West; her second husband, Carl Bogenrife; and two sisters, Elizabeth Bogenrife and Rita Ledwig Katzfey.
Survivors include a son, Thomas Mika of San Antonio; a daughter, Pamela Mika (Peter) Wolf of Buda; two brothers, Edward "Sonny" Ledwig of Cotulla and Anthony "Butch" Ledwig of Medford, Okla.; four grandchildren, Jessica Hanson (Jeff) Wilhelm of Manor, Patricia Hanson, Anna Hanson and Carolie Wolf, all of Buda; a great-grandson, Joshua Allan Wilhelm of Manor; and three brothers-in-law, Sixtus (Mary) Mika, Felix Mika Jr., all of Panna Maria and Aloys (Gertrude) Mika of San Antonio.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday in Panna Maria at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Father Wojciech Reisch and Monsignor Frank Kurzaj officiating. Burial followed in the Panna Maria Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Rhodes Funeral Home in Karnes City.
Knorr
Thomas Wayne Knorr, 56, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at his residence in Beeville, following a long illness.
He was born to Clarence and Jewell Knorr on Dec. 31, 1946 in Chicago, Ill. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He went to the Great Lakes and served aboard the USS Enterprise. He was awarded several citations, including the Vietnam Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea) and Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon. He was employed for the last 10 years with WasteQuip MayFab in Beeville. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jewell Knorr.
Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Knorr of Beeville; two step-sons, Mark Boening of Beeville and Bryan Flower of England; three daughters of Beeville; one step-daughter, Sunshine Kaye Flower of Beeville; his father and step-mother, Clarence and Florence Knorr of Westmont, Ill.; and two sisters, Barbara and husband Rola Baker of Roseburg, Ore. and Janice Knorr of Georgia.
Services were held Saturday at 5885 Cherry Lane in Beeville.

Lieke
Martin A. Lieke, 93, of Kenedy, died Dec. 20, 2002, in Kenedy’s Otto Kaiser Memorial Hospital.
He was born on Oct. 30, 1909, in Seguin, to Henry and Johanna (Bode) Lieke. He was a farmer and rancher and a member of the Lutheran church.
He married Emma Buegeler on Jan. 1, 1934, in Jourdanton. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Bill, Otto, Alvin, Harry, Hilbert and Raymond Lieke; and his sister, Wanda Lieke.
Survivors include his wife, Emma Lieke of Kenedy; two daughters, Irene Lieke of Floresville and Martina (Henry) Walleck of Kenedy; two sons, Elton (Saundra) Lieke of New Braunfels and Ronnie D. Lieke of Kenedy; a sister, Thelka (Harry) Coldeway of Brookesmith; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held Dec. 23 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Kenedy with the Rev. Sharon Truelson officiating. Burial followed in the Kenedy Cemetery.
Pallbearers were David Buegeler, Roy Lee Fenner, Vernon Fenner, Arnest, Brian, Eric and Norman Lieke, Hubert Rudolph Jr. and Freddie Glenn Walleck.
Arrangements were handled through Eckols Funeral Home, Kenedy.
Neisler
Helen Louise Neisler, 66, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, in San Antonio.
Mrs. Neisler was born March 8, 1936, in Boothbay, Maine.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Fred Wooster.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Billie S. Neisler; her mother, Eleanor Bunker; four daughters, Ruby (Chris) Stewart, Teresa (Bill) Haywood, Patti (James) White and Jo Ann Phillips; a son, Curtis Neisler; three sisters, Peggy Pharr, Sara Wagner and Sandy Sigurdson; seven grandchildren; and numerous friends and relatives.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts be sent in her memory to East Tennessee School of Preaching, Knoxville, Tenn., or Freed-Hardman University in Henderson, Tenn.
Visitation was held Sunday at Colonial Funeral Home. A chapel service was conducted Monday, followed by interment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
