Mrs. Lopez
Birdie (Valdez) Lopez, 99, of George West passed away on Thurs. Oct. 11. She was a homemaker and a member of St. George Catholic Church.
She was born on April 3, 1908 in Floresville to Casiario and Monica (Cano) Valdez. She married Francisco Lopez.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Casiario Valdez; her daughter, Guadalupe DeLeon; sons, Joaquin and Frank Lopez.
She is survived by four sons, Manuel (Felipa) Lopez of San Antonio, Martin Lopez of George West, Clemente Lopez of George West, Pablo (Margaret) Lopez of Leveland; four daughter, Margarita Chapa of George West, Juanita Lopez of George West, Francisca Rodriguez of George West, Andrea Reyes of Beeville; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Sun. Oct. 14 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Galloway & Sons Chapel of George West. Rosary was cited Sun. Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at Galloway & Sons Chapel in George West with Fr. Joseph Olikkara officiating. Funeral services were held Mon. Oct. 15 at 9:30 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church of George West. Interment followed at George West Cemetery.

Mr. Palacios
Erasmo G. Palacios, age 70, died on Sun. Oct. 14, 2007 at a hospital in Corpus Christi. He was an auto technician for Scoggins Motors.
He was born to Everisto and Francisca (Garza) Palacios on April 15, 1937 in Karnes City. He married Corina Marroquin on Oct. 6, 1979 in George West.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Everisto and Francisca Palacios.
He is survived by his wife, Corina Palacios of George West; two daughters, Sandra Gutierrez of San Antonio and Thelma (Pablo) Perez of Schertz; four sisters, Elida Baltazar of Frisco, Tina Martinez of Houston, Alicia Trevino of Beeville, Esther Herrera of Houston; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wed. Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Roberson Funeral Home in Three Rivers. Thurs. Oct. 18 visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in George West at the St. George Catholic Church Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. at St. George Catholic Church in George West. Funeral mass wil be celebrated Fri. Oct. 19 at 10 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church in George West. Interment to follow at George West Cemetery.

Mrs. Wood
Wanda Redding Wood, 66, of Simmons passed away on Tues. Oct. 9, 2007. She was a caregiver.
She was born to Lynn and Dullcenia (Thompson) Redding in Simmons on Jan. 22, 1941. She married Guy R. “Red” Wood in Three Rivers on Aug. 9, 1961.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy R. “Red” Wood.
She is survived by a son, Russell O. (Kara) Wood of Simmons; a daughter, Lyn Wood (Chance) Henicke of Simmons; her mother-in-law, Mae Wood of Simmons; a sister, Mabel Looney of Port O’Connor; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Visitation was held on Thurs. Oct. 11 at 9 a.m. in Simmons Community Church. Funeral service was held Thurs. Oct. 11 at 10 a.m. at Simmons Community Church with Brother Darby Salge officiating. Songs sung by Kara Wood and Lisa Atkinson. Interment followed at Simmons Cemetery.

Mr. Acosta
Alejandro “Cane” Acosta, 70, of Beeville passed away on Thurs. Oct. 4, 2007. He was the owner of The Bee Club and a member of St. James Catholic Church.
He was born to Leonardo and Angela (Balerio) Acosta in Three Rivers on Dec. 22, 1936. He married Esmeralda Casarez in Odem in 1962.
He is preceded in death by his parents Leonardo Acosta and Angela Perez, his step-father Jacob Perez, and his sister Penny Perez.
He is survived by his wife Esmeralda Acosta of Beeville; his sons, Joe Alex (Jessica) Acosta of Beeville, Alejandro Acosta Jr. of California; his daughters, Sylvia A. (Benny) Gonzales Jr. of Beeville, Lisa (Ysidro Rodriguez) Ponce of Beeville; his sisters, Leonor (Augustine) Rios of Houston, Evangelina Alaniz of George West, Socorro (Ismael) Gonzales of Tilden; his brothers, Joe (Delfina) Davila of Oakville, David (Stella) Acosta of Victoria; and his grandchildren.

Mr. Elling
Walter John Elling, 78, of Beeville passed away on Sat. Oct. 6, 2007. He was an elder of the Church of Christ, a professional and avid wildlife photographer and taught bible at CBC.
He was born to Ernest and Hildegard (Jesse) Elling in Kingsville on Nov. 9, 1928. He married Vinita Faye Brown in San Antonio on Aug. 19, 1950.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Hildegard Elling, a daughter Nancy Elling and a son Larry Elling.
He is survived by his wife Vinita Elling of Beeville; two daughters, Susan (Bill) Dobra of Beeville, Malinda (Jeff) Hammond of Beeville; daughter in law Marcia Elling of Brownwood; a brother, James Elling of Lytle; and eight grandchildren,

Juanita (Campos) Gonzales, 72, of Oakville passed away on Sun.Oct. 7, 2007. She was a homemaker and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
She was born to Alfonso and Lucia Campos in Dilley on Dec. 4, 1934. She married Ysabel C. Gonzales in Florence, Arizona on Nov. 28, 1953.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Leon Campos, Roman Campos, Cruz Campos, Alfonso Campos, Jr. and her sisters Angelita Gonzales, Julia Rendon and Maria Martinez.
She is survived by her husband Ysabel C. Gonzales of Oakville; daughters San Juanita (Armando) Ramos of Kingville, Mary (Robert) Esquivel of George West, Lila (Nick) Pena of Three Rivers, Mary Lou (Jesse) Gonzales of Beeville; sons Reyes (Janice) Gonzales of Helotes, Ysabel C. (Amelia) Gonzales of Beeville, Felipe (Penny Edwards) Gonzales of Oakville, Jose (Lynn) Gonzales of Dallas; two brothers, Erasmo Campos of Pawnee, Gilerto Campos of Corpus Christi; two half sisters, Fidela Guerra and Santos Alvarez both of Houston; twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Israel P. Gonzalez, age 60, of George West passed away on Fri. Oct. 5, 2007.
He was born to Thomas F. and Maria (Paiz) Gonzalez in Beeville on June 1, 1947.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Erica Gonzalez.
He is survived by his wife Tina L. Gonzalez of Beeville; a daughter, Maria Guadalupe Luna of George West; three sons, Manuel Gonzalez of George West, Michael Gonzalez of Fort Worth, Israel Gonzalez of Fort Worth; a brother Elizrdo P. Gonzales of Beeville, three sisters, Yolanda Moreno of Beeville, Maria DeHoyas of Beeville, San Juanita DeHoyas of Floyada; thirteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, a great-great grandson and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Custer
James K. “Jimmie” Custer, 87, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007. He was a World War II Army veteran, a Tetra Services Oilfield Supply salesman and a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret; four sons, Ronnie Custer of Refugio, Ricky Custer, Randy Custer and Rocky Custer, all of Three Rivers; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at First Baptist Church. Burial was in Three Rivers Cemetery.
Ms. Hill
Jana Lynn Hill, age 45, of Three Rivers died Friday, Feb. 8, 2008 at her residence. She was employed with Performance Plus.
She was born to Harry Lee and Nell (Rathke) Hill on Oct. 10, 1962 in Corpus Christi.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harry Lee Hill.
Her survivors include her mother, Nell (Fred) Lehman of Three Rivers; two brothers, Ron Hill of Washington, Doyle Hill of Three Rivers; a sister, Tammie Kay Hill of Austin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 10 a.m. at the Simmons City Community Church in the Simmons Community, Live Oak County. Interment will follow in the Simmons City Community Cemetery.
