Menna Marie Balke Stewart
Menna Marie Balke Stewart was born November 21, 1923 in Beaumont. Texas, to Paul Christian and Nathalie Hebert Balke. She departed this life, Wednesday, March 31, 2004.
She married Manton Paul Stewart on September 17, 1941. From this union two sons were born, Manton and Sherwood.
Menna is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Paul Christian Balke Jr, ; sister-in-law, Earline Stewart Regan.
She is survived by her sons and their wives, Manton Paul Stewart, Jr. and wife Linda of Anahuac, TX., Sherwood Earl Stewart and wife Cindi of the Woodlands, TX; Grandchildren, Richard Earl Stewart and wife Julie, John Paul Stewart and Shastyn Elaine Stewart; great granddaughters, Kelsey, Nicole Stewart and Kendyl Rae Stewart; her brother Andrew Louis Balke and wife Rita of Baton Rouge, LA and sister-in-law Betty Balke; brother-in-law, Francis “Rusty” Regan; and caretaker, Jackie Wells.
Graveside service will be Friday, April 2, 2004 at 2:00 p.m at Memory Gardens Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Bill Ingram.

Burch Benford White
Burch Benford White, 87, longtime resident of Barbers Hill and Baytown was born September 28, 1916 in Batson, Texas and passed from this world Monday, March 29, 2004 in a local hospital. He was a Scout Master with Troop 105 in Mont Belvieu and a member of the Barbers Hill Volunteer Fire Department, Water Board, School Board, and 1st Baptist Church in Mont Belvieu. He retired from Exxon Chemical in 1978 with 39 years of service. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was a member of the Pickettís Bayou Hunting Club.
His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, April 2, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Navarre Funeral Home with his friend of 70 years, M. E. Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarcrest Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Kooper Sjolander, Jim Sjolander, Brent White, Chris White, Glenn White, and Nathan Duda.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Harold White, sister, Lorene Block, son, James J. Church, and Saturday, his grandson-in-law, Stephen Brown. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Tressie White of Baytown; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Marcy White of Pasadena; daughters and son-in-law, Diana and Melvin Alford of Beach City and Judy Roebuck of Old River-Winfree; sister, Annie Merritt of Deer Park; grandchildren, Chris White, Brent White, Cheri Armstrong and husband David, Wendy Barley and husband Jeff, Chambra Brown, Amy Wotipka and husband David, Cyndy Friery and husband Randy; Bonnie Sjolander-Mercer and husband Robert, Wendy Sjolander-Gooch, LuAnn Sjolander-Wolf and husband Darrell, Jim Sjolander and wife Amy, and Kooper Sjolander; and great grandchildren, Alexa, Austin, Aden, Madeline, Mallory, Kyle, Evan, Dustin, Shelby, Haley, Eric, Jared, Micah, Dalton, Tristan, Halle, and Atalie.
Mr. White's family would like to say a special “thank you” to Dr. Rick Boyles and nurses Carol and Beverly for their kindness and caring over the years and a special thanks to Dr. Pamela Medellin, Pat and Margie.

Carlis Edward Clance
Carlis Edward Clance was surrounded by his loving family when he departed this life on March 18, 2004. He was born on July 22, 1935 in Hazlehurst, Georgia, to Ernest and Jewell Spires Clance. He married his sweetheart, Mary Nan Sullivan on June 1, 1956. Carlis was the owner of A Quality Remodeling in Baytown.
Preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Donald Clance and Cecil Clance, he is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mary N. Clance; brothers, John Clance and his wife Martha, Ernest Clance, Jr., and Norman Clance; sister, Lois Berry; brothers-in-law, Joseph Sullivan, James Sullivan and his wife, Rose, Benjamin Sullivan and his wife, Glenda; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving friends and family members.
Service of Remembrance was held Monday, March 22, 200 4 at L.A. Crespo Funeral Directors. Pastor Bobby Hart officiated. Interment was held at Memory Gardens following the service. Edith Mae Beaty
Edith Mae Beaty of Leander, Texas formerly of Magnolia, and Dayton, passed away March 30, 2004. Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Beaty Sr.; son, Dwayne Beaty; daughter, Edith Fay Anders; and grandchild Teresa Anders. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Dorothy Beaty; daughter and son-in-law, Robbie and Jim Joy; grandchildren, Connie Fowler and her husband Tim, Stephanie Fitzgerald and her husband Kevin, James Wayne Beaty, Ashley Marie Beaty, Allan Joy, Holly Joy, Jimmy Joy. Michelle Belvin and her husband Ron, Paul Anders, Dianna Anders, Stephen Dwayne Beaty, and Dwayne “DJ” Beaty; 18 great grandchildren. Dr. Robert Edward “Uncle Buddy” Robson
Dr. Robert Edward “Uncle Buddy” Robson, 88, of Baytown went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 9, 2004. He was born March 19, 1916 in Gulfport, Mississippi. He was a 78 year resident of Baytown. He was an Optometrist in private practice for 45 years, a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. He served in the Army during WWII. He was a over 50 year member of the Rotary Club, over 50 year member of the Goose Creek Masonic Lodge, over 50 year member of the Scottish Rights, over 50 year member of the Texas Optometric Association. He was also one of the founders of Robson’s Diamond and Jewelers. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Hattie Robson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Lois Robson, son, Edward Kent Robson of Beach City, sisters, Grace Hargrave, Mary Marder, Evelyn Robson, Esther Price, sister-in-law, Betty Offermann, numerous very devoted nieces and nephews, including Robert and Norman Hargrave, Robert Marder and Doug Offermann and Lynn Miller. Visitation will be Thursday, June 10, 2004 from 6-8 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home. Graveside service will be Friday, June 11, 2004, 10:00 a.m. at the pavilion at Whites Cemetery in Highlands with Rev. Joseph Spitler and Rev. Michael Proctor officiating.

Eddie Pratt, 66, formerly of Anahuac, Texas passed away June 5, 2004 in Vitas Hospice Hospital in Houston. He was born August 27, 1937 in Old River, Texas. He lived in Anahuac, Texas over 20 years. He joined Little Rock Baptist Church at an early age. He was a construction worker until he fell ill. He is preceded in death by his mother, Mabel Pratt, father, James Pratt, Sr., brother, James Pratt, Jr. daughter, Pamela E. Pratt “Pokey”, sons, Eddye Lydell Pratt and Edward Earl Pratt. He is survived by step-sons Clifton Lewis and wife Christy of Houston, Darryl Lewis and wife Chantall, daughters, Sylvia Jones and fiance Troy Sanders of Houston, step-daughter, Jaqueline Lewis of Houston, brothers, J.B. Pratt of Baytown, Wayne Allen Pratt and wife Amanda Pratt of Baytown, Robert Anthony Pratt and wife Willa Pratt of Baytown, sisters, Ruth M. Lewis of Baytown, Beverly Thomas of Baytown and Cynthia Mathis of Baytown, 13 grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Joseph Cuthbert Desbonnes, 57, passed away June 6, 2004 at Bayshore Medical Center. He was born June 11, 1946 in Portsmouths, Dominica, W.I. He lived in La Porte for 30 years. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in La Porte. He worked as a carpenter and pipefitter. He is preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle Desbonnes, father, Everton Desbonnes and a brother, John Desbonnes.
He is survived by his wife, Veronica Desbonnes of La Porte, son, Joseph D. Desbonnes, Jr., step-son, Patrick Francis, both of La Porte, daughter, Cindy Desbonnes, and step-daughter, Sandra Francis, both of Houston, brothers, Roy, Augustus, Peter, Rapheal Desbonnes, all of the West Indies, sisters, Sandra Hyatt, Hillie Desbonnes, Justine Desbonnes, all of the West Indies, 3 grandsons, Marcus T. Desbonnes, Babacar Diagne Faye, Hamson Joseph Desbonnes, all of Houston. Brothers-in-law are George, Nathan, Ignations, Laurence, Anthony, Wilfred and Michael Francis. Sisters-in-law are Jackie Desbonnes from Boston, Teresa Thomas of La Porte, Teresa Celestine and Doris Buckmyre, both from the West Indies.

Ruth Ann Nichols Gegas
On Saturday, June 5, 2004 at 3:12 a.m. at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown, Ruth Ann Nichols Gegas, born July 1st, 1932 passed away at age 71. She took her last breath in the arms of her husband of 54 years, Thomas Gus Gegas, Sr., surrounded by all her children. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Gus Gegas, Sr; children, Karyn Gegas Giles of Baytown, Thomas Gus Gegas, Jr. of Baytown, David Lee Gegas and Fiancee Letecia Morgan, both of Beaumont; 2 grandsons, Adam William Giles and Christopher Michael Giles, both of Las Vegas, NV; brother, Donald Nichols of Baytown; sister/2nd mother, Evelyn Smith of Santee, CA; brother-in-law, Peter Gus Gegas of W. VA. Ruth Ann was a loving and caring wife, mother and friend. She was loved by everyone who’s life she had touched. A stranger was just a friend she hadn’t met yet. Mom, we all will miss you. Harold Lincoln Sholes
Harold Lincoln Sholes, 89 of Baytown, departed this life on June 7, 2004. He was born the youngest of five children of Harry and Esther Leland Sholes, on May 13, 1915, in Somerville Massachusetts. He graduated from Nantucket Schoolship which is now known as Massachusetts Maritime Academy. In 1936 he began working for Marine Department of Standard Oil Company of New Jersey (now Exxon.) On May 13, 1939 he married Anna Mae Dyer in Brookline, MA. Harold was a Lt. Commander in the Navy during World War II. After the War he rejoined Exxon where he captained tankers until his retirement in 1971. He and Anna enjoyed traveling throughout North America and were longtime members of the Texas Gulf Unit of the Wally Byam Club International. He was a 50 year member of the Goose Creek and Missouri Lodges of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, Harold was a member of St. James House Auxiliary, and A.A.R.P. Harold was an avid reader, especially books on history, and he enjoyed being outdoors with salt air in his lungs.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Anna Mae Dyer Sholes; son, Harold L. Sholes, Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Seffner Florida; daughter, Sally Sholes, of League City; grandchildren, Susan Talutis Sherman of Spring, Tx., Katherine Talutis Tooley of Palaceaides, Ca., Benjamin Tyler Sholes of Lancaster, Ca., and Tiffany Sholes Campbell of Katy, Tx.; and three great grandchildren.
Services of remembrance with military honors will take place at L.A. Crespo Funeral Directors, at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 2004, Rev. Joseph Spitler, of Trinity Episcopal Church officiating. A reception will follow the service at the funeral home.
