Appell
Frances Alleene Appell died Tuesday, April 4, 2006, after a long illness. She was born on July 3, 1916 in Alice. She was a homemaker and a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd as well as a member of the Altar Guild of the same church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Henry Appell, in December 2000, her parents, David Edward and Frances Wilson Lauderback, and six siblings.
Survivors include her three children, Linda Appell (Bryan) Spires of Georgetown, William Henry Jr. (Jill) Appell of Rockport and R. Michael (Sherry) Appell of George West; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, James Lauderback of Oklahoma; numerous nieces; and one nephew.
Services were held Saturday, April 8, at 10 a.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in George West. Interment followed in the George West Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
Memorial donations may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd or to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Kidd
William “Bill” Kidd, 79, of Normanna, died Saturday, April 8, 2006.
Mr. Kidd was born on Oct. 1, 1926, to Hulda Freda Kellner and Grover Kidd in Live Oak County. He married to Geneva Joyce (Walker) Kidd on June 5, 1949, at Choate Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army and worked as a gas tester for ARCO oil and gas company. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and carpentry and was a member of Normanna Baptist Church.
Visitation was held on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Galloway & Sons Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services were held today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home chapel with minister Brian Simon officiating. Special music included “Beyond the Sunset,” “Lily of the Valley,” “How Great Thou Art” and “Precious Memories” played by organist Brenda Pittman and sung by Brenda Pittman and Jerry Sain Jr. Interment followed at San Domingo Cemetery in Normanna.
Pallbearers were Robert Walker, John Goza Jr., Tim Goza, Chad Bagwell, Jeremy Stevens and Cameron Mac Melugiin. Honorary pallbearers were James A. Kidd, Peter Kidd, Donald Kidd and ARCO retirees.
Mr. Kidd was preceded in death by his parents, a stepmother, two grandchildren, six sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Kidd of Normanna; two sons, Tommy Dwain Kidd and wife Sharon of Gonzales and William Dale Kidd and wife Janice of LaVernia; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Margaret Carpenter of New Braunfels, Freda Yoeman of Sandia and Mary Gomillion of Dale; two brothers, Charlie Kidd of Pleasanton and Thomas Kidd of Kenedy; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Normanna Baptist Church Building Fund.

Endercio Chapa Sr., 78, of George West died Monday, March 13, 2006. The funeral service was held this morning (Wednesday) at 10 o’clock at St. George Catholic Church in George West.

McGriff
Thomas Church McGriff, 90, of Three Rivers died Saturday, March 11, 2006 in a local nursing home following an extended illness. Mr. McGriff was born to Thomas and Clara McGriff in San Antonio on Feb. 29, 1916. He was a WWII veteran and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. McGriff was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Brett Lister, in 1972; his first wife, Noema McGriff, in 1976; and second wife, Mary Rose McGriff, in 1998.
Survivors include his son, Thomas (Linda) McGriff of Dallas; a daughter, Clara Lynn “Smokey” (Tim) Wilson of San Antonio; a stepson, Bill Ankenbrock of New York City, N.Y.; a stepdaughter, Margaret (Ed) Ogan of Indiana; five grandchildren, Thomas Kevin (Paulissa) McGriff of Austin, Sherri McGriff of Mesquite, Cary (Michele) Lister of Houston, Griff (Debra) Wilson of Trinity and Trent Wilson of Baton Rouge, La.; and three great-grandchildren, Maggie McGriff of Austin, Hannah Duncan of Mesquite and Allegra Wilson of Trinity.
Visitation was held Sunday in the Roberson Funeral Home Chapel in Three Rivers. The funeral service was held Monday at 10 a.m. in the chapel. A private family burial followed in the Three Rivers Cemetery.

Richard
Sally “Sal” Richard of George West, 54, died Saturday, March 11, 2006.
A memorial service was held this morning (Wednesday), March 15, at 10 o’clock at the Galloway and Sons Chapel in George West.
Mrs. Richard was born to Ray Lafayette and Mildred (Tate) Haley on May 5, 1951 in Three Rivers. She married Raphael C. Richard on Dec. 30, 1976 in Victoria. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Richard was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Anita Snider.
Survivors include her husband, Raphael C. Richard of George West; three sons, Rocky Dan Angell of Edna, Rusty Angell of Floresville and Matthew Shane Richard of George West; three brothers, Robert Lowrie of George West; Dickie Lowrie of Arkansas and Billy Ray Haley of Gulfport, Miss.; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; and special friends, John and Leslie Walker of George West.

Doebbler
Fred Doebbler, 54, died on Monday, April 24, 2006, in Houston. He was born on Oct. 29, 1951, in Carrizo Springs to Ambrose and Edna Gregory Doebbler.
Visitation was held Friday, April 28, at Galloway and Sons Chapel in Three Rivers. Funeral service was held Saturday, April 29, at 10 a.m. at the same place with Deacon J.D. Babin officiating. Burial followed in White Creek Baptist Cemetery.
Mr. Doebbler served in the U.S. Navy and was an honorably discharged naval fire control technician and a former employee of Digicon/Veritas seismic maritime company in Houston.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Donna Doebbler; a son, James Doebbler of Houston; two daughters, Krystal Doebbler and Holly Doebbler, both of Houston; a brother, Ted Doebbler of Houston; and a sister, Cathy Doebbler of San Antonio.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Kay
Mary Elizabeth Kay, 93, died Thursday, April 27, 2006 in San Antonio. She was born to John and Florence (White) Whitehead on Nov. 12, 1912 in Burnet County. Ms. Kay had a master’s degree in special education and taught for 25 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Three Rivers and held Bible study at the prison for 10 years.
Survivors include two sons, Alvin Kay of Port Aransas and Alfred Kay of San Antonio; one brother, Leslie Ray Whitehead of Sarasota, Fla.; two sisters, Lillian Scobey and Johnnie McKinnon of Rosanky; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held Sunday, April 30, at Roberson Funeral Home in Three Rivers.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 1, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Three Rivers. Burial followed in the Three Rivers Cemetery.

Bowen
Georgia Mae Bowen, 49, a resident of Freer, died Wednesday June 7, 2006, in an Alice hospital following a sudden illness. She worked as a cashier at Super S Foods and Nu-Way Convenience store in Freer. She enjoyed music, poetry and singing.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Delcie Bowen, and her stepmother, Mary Alice Brieden Bowen.
Survivors include two sons, Joel Lynn Sinor Jr. of Pflugerville and Robert Blaze Sinor of Fort Worth; her father, John C. (Theresa) Bowen of Freer; a brother, John D. (Trina) Bowen of Freer, two sisters, Brenda (Joe) Jalufka of Ada, Okla. and Bonnie (Pete) Hahn of Goliad; her companion, Bobby Lee Jr. of Freer; as well as numerous nieces, nephews aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 9, at the Garza Funeral Home Chapel in Freer, with Brother Tim Walshe officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of Garza Funeral Home, Freer.
Garcia
Elida Martinez Garcia, 73, of George West, died on Tuesday, June 6, 2006.
Mrs. Martinez was born on July 30, 1932, in Three Rivers to Cesario and Librada (Deluna) Martinez. She married Juan Garcia in George West on April 25, 1955, and was a homemaker. She was a member of St. George Catholic Church.
Mrs. Garcia was preceded in death by her parents, Cesario and Librada (Deluna) Martinez; and one sister, Seferina Gutierrez.
She is survived by her husband, Juan Garcia of George West; two sons, Reynaldo Garcia and Rosemary and Raul “Pepe” Garcia and Rachel, all of George West; three daughters, Margarita “Margie” Chapa and Endercio Jr. and Delma Garcia, all of George West, and Belinda Garcia and Joe Garza of Leander; eight grandchildren, Rebecca Rae Garcia, Juan Gabriel Garcia, Adriane Rose Garcia, Claudia G. Chapa, Salina G. Chapa, Isabella Martina Chapa, Candace Nicole Gonzales and Joseph G. Gonzales; and two sisters, Emma Carter of Corpus Christi and Hilaria Ramon of George West.
Visitation was held Wednesday, June 7, at the Galloway & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in George West. A Rosary was recited tonight at 7:30 p.m. that evening at St. George Catholic Church. The funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, with Father Joseph Olikkara officiating. Musical selections were provided by Cris Luna accompanied by organist Barbara Bednorz. Interment followed in the St. George Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Julian Ramon, Joe Ramon, Abel Gutierrez, Chris Ybañez, Adolfo Moreno Jr. and Omar Salazar. Honorary pallbearers were Joseph Gonzales and Gabriel Garcia.
