Chavera
Carmen “Carmelo” Chavera Sr., 73, of Three Rivers, died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005 in George West. Visitation was held Monday, Sept. 12, at Galloway & Sons Chapel in Three Rivers. A rosary was recited that evening at 7 o'clock at the chapel. A funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Three Rivers, with Father Piotr Gajda officiating. Burial followed in the Three Rivers Cemetery.
Mr. Chavera was born July 16, 1932, to Federico and Maximina (Almarez) Chavera in Oakville. He married Eustolia Ponce in Three Rivers on March 13, 1993, and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a refineries painter and retired at the age of 62.
Mr. Chavera was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Eustolia (Ponce) Chavera of Three Rivers; two sons, Carmen Chavera Jr. of Carrollton and Angel Chavera of Grand Prairie; three daughters, Connie (Frank) Gingrich of Pennsylvania, Margaret (Donald) Gillette of Colony and Elizabeth (Frank) Dodd of Corpus Christi; 14 grandchildren, Jeremy Gingrich, Tina Chavera, Amy Chavera, Lisa Chavera, Jason Dodd, Paul Castillo, Margaret Ann Dempsey, Pete Castillo, Angie Barnett, Rico Chavera, Nicholas Chavera, Connie Chavera, Mathew Chavera and Liberty Chavera; and four great-grandchildren, Jonathan Dempsey, Jace Castillo, Paul Castillo Jr. and Ciara Barnett.

Allen
Donna L. Allen, 67, a resident of Oregon’s Garibaldi community, died Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at the Providence St. Vincent Hospital in Portland, Ore.
Graveside services were held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Forest View Cemetery in Forest Grove, Ore., with Pastor David J. Whitehead of the Rockaway Community Church officiating. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 23, at 11 a.m. at the Rockaway Community Church in Rockaway Beach, Ore.
Mrs. Allen was born Oct. 4, 1937, in Butte, Mt., to Wesley Allen and Ann Marie (Grandovic) Jacobs. She was raised and received her early education in the Butte community, until 1947, when she moved with her family to Oregon, settling in the Rockaway community.
She married Robert Lee “Bob” Allen on Oct. 8, 1959, in Tillamook, Ore. Following their marriage they made their home in Tillamook County, having lived in Rockaway, Brighton and Garibaldi. In 1974 they moved to George West, where they resided for five years until returning to Oregon in 1979, settling again in the Garibaldi community. Mr. and Mrs. Allen celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary this past October.
Mrs. Allen was a homemaker and a member of the Rockaway Community Church and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2144 in Tillamook. She enjoyed bingo, camping and knitting.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Ann Jacobs.
Survivors include her husband, Robert L. “Bob” Allen of Garibaldi, Ore.; a daughter, Laura Barber and her fiancé, Terry Lane of Bay City, Ore.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ron and Shirley Jacobs of Vancouver, Wash. and Kenneth “Ken” and Sue Jacobs of Oakridge, Ore.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Kenneth Frampton of Rockaway, Ore., Sharon and Dick Epperly and Linda Smith, all of Vancouver, Wash.; three grandchildren, Cheri Gonzalez, Tari Thompson and Jenny Allen; five great-grandchildren, Ashley Nicole and Brittany Marie Allen, Alondra Isabel and Antonio Jiovany Gonzalez and Colin Allen Kent; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Rockaway Community Church building fund, P.O. Box 176, Rockaway Beach, OR 97138.
Arrangements were handled through Forest Grove Memorial Chapel, Forest Grove, Ore.
Hale
Mary Lou Hale, 81, died Monday, July 11, 2005, at her residence in La Pryor.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Batesville, with the Rev. Johnney Whiteaker officiating. Mrs. Hale was cremated.
Mrs. Hale was born in Three Rivers on Feb. 24, 1924.
Survivors include her husband, A.J. Hale of Uvalde; her children, Melvin C. Lee of Dinero, Fay Cox of La Pryor, Annette Snyder of Falls Çity, Lois Simpson of Uvalde, Patricia DeGroff of Uvalde, Gerald Kim Lee of Ingram, Ruby Roberts of Skiatook, Okla., Danny Hale of Camarillo, Calif., Kenneth Hale of Brackettville, Bruce Hale of Rosenberg, Debbie Alderson of Uvalde and Sheryl Pierce of Waco; 37 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Ala Hicks and Ruby Payne, both of Three Rivers, Margaret Crisp of New Braunfels and Mary Blackman of Batesville; numerous nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.
Mrs. Hale was preceded in death by her first husband, Melvin Luther Lee; and a daughter, Linda Louella O’Niel.
Arrangements were under the direction of Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary, Uvalde.
Austen
Bettye J. Austen, 74, of George West, died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005.
Visitation was held at the Austen residence at 802 Colorado Street in George West. A graveside service was held Saturday, Nov. 26, at 11 a.m. in the George West Cemetery.
Mrs. Austen was born to Stanley and Mary Cox on July 7, 1931, in George West.
Survivors include her husband, Charles S. Austen of George West; a son, Rickey Quillin of Rodesa, La.; and a sister, Mary Ethel Lyons of San Antonio.

Lawson
Melvin Lawson, 77, of George West, died Friday, Nov. 25, 2005, in George West.
Mr. Lawson was born Jan. 2, 1927. He served with Merchant Marines where he retired as a mechanic. He was a member of the Baptist church. He will be cremated.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Orlene Lawson, Anna Marie Lawson and Melvina Charlene Lawson, all of California; and five grandchildren, Christina Lee Vaughan, Norman Dale Callison, Brandon Lee Lawson, Danielle Renee Concienne and Christopher Concienne.

Adan Martinez Jr., 44, of Peggy, died Friday, Nov. 25, 2005. A rosary was held at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, at the Roberson Funeral Home Chapel in Three Rivers. A Mass of resurrection was held Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 10 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church in George West. Interment followed at the George West Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ray Martinez, Jose Martinez, Mario Moya, Robert Duke, Carlos Saldiva and Jonah Guerrero.
Mr. Martinez was born June 25, 1961, in Mathis to Adan and Petra (Gonzales) Martinez.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Adan Martinez Sr. and Petra Martinez; a son, Joe Adam Martinez; and a brother, Simon Martinez.
Survivors include four daughters, Monica (Mario) Moya, Christine (Ashley) Flores and Sonia (Ira) Williams, all of Three Rivers, and Emily Marie Martinez of George West; five sons, Adan Martinez III, Steve Anthony (Salina) Martinez of Three Rivers, Aaron Martinez of Mabank, Alexander Martinez of George West and stepson Jim Bob Willer of Mabank; 10 grandchildren; one brother, Jose (Tracy) Martinez of Beeville; and six sisters, Eugenia Lazo, Anna Marie Martinez, Aurora (Francisco) Hernandez of George West, Margarita (Israel) Rodriguez of Mabank, Elida (Fidel) Alaniz of Christine and Guadalupe Martinez of Giddings.

McCain
Dalton Robert McCain, 80, of Mathis, died, Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m. at Dobie Funeral Home in Mathis, with the Rev. Bruce Irving officiating. Interment followed in Cenizo Hill Cemetery in Mathis.
Mr. McCain was born to C.B. and Merle McCain on Sept. 1, 1925 in Waco. He served during World War II in the United States Navy. He later worked as a welder in the refinery industry.
Survivors include his wife, Lela McCain of Mathis; two daughters, Linda Gayle Ivie of Corpus Christi and Michelle Dartez of Lake Charles, La.; nine sons, Jay McCain, Michael McCain and Rodney McCain, all of Corpus Christi, Delvin McCain of Houston, Larry McCain and Steve McCain, both of Sandia, Mike Terry of Sinton and Eddie Terry of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four sisters, Melva Groom of Mathis, Neva Thompson of Louisiana, Janet Alston of Boerne and Bobbie Parker of Bandera; two brothers, Doyle McCain and Dwayne McCain, both of Corpus Christi; 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mr. McCain was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Gladwell and Elvis McCain.

Ybañez
Ramona Mosqueda Ybañez, 81, died Dec. 8, 2005, peacefully at her home in George West.
Visitation was held Friday, Dec. 9. Funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday, Dec. 10, at 10 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church in George West. Interment was at Mountain View Cemetery in Kingman, Ariz.
Mrs. Ybañez was born to Jose and Jesusa (Cuevas) Mosqueda on May 3, 1924. She married Gilberto Ybañez on Sept. 20, 1941.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Sostenence Mosqueda and Jake Mosqueda; two sisters, Refugia Diaz and Olivia DeBaca; a son, Gilbert Ybañez Jr.; and a daughter, Guadalupe Ybañez.
Survivors include six sons, Fernando (Margarita) Ybañez of Denver City, Alex Ybañez (Lupe) of Yuma, Ariz., Eddie Ybañez of Beeville, Victor (Sherry) Ybañez and Thomas (Rebecca) Ybañez, both of George West, and Arthuro Ybañez of Oklahoma City Okla.; three daughters, Elena Royer of Oklahoma, Lupe (George) Bray and Mary (Richard) Vargas, both of George West; her mother, Jesusa Morin of George West; a brother, Epifanio Morin of Kingman, Ariz.; a sister, Elia Perez of George West; 24 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
