Montgomery
Dr. Robert “Bob” A. Montgomery, 74, of Wimberley, died in San Antonio on Saturday, July 16, 2005.
Dr. Montgomery was born and raised in Three Rivers where he became class valedictorian at Three Rivers High School in 1947.
He received his bachelors of arts degree from South-western University in Georgetown and continued his education, receiving his master’s and later his doctoral degree in educational psychology from The University of Texas at Austin.
Over the years, Dr. Bob served as junior high school teacher and assistant Deputy Commissioner of Education for the State of Texas, as well as superintendent of schools in Andrews, Education Service Center director in Abilene and Texas Education Agency assistant commissioner for Special Education in Austin.
After retiring from the state, he worked as a psychologist at the Austin State School, taught evening classes at Park College and was a psychology professor at St. Edward’s University in Austin. In all, Dr. Montgomerygave more than 52 years in direct service to education in the state of Texas.
He was instrumental in developing the Texas State Migrant Program at St. Edward’s University educating high school-aged children of migrant farm workers from throughout Texas. He held a lifetime membership in the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) and was honorary Gold Key Member of the Language Learning Disability Association, as well as a lifetime member of the University of Texas Ex-Student Association and Texas Democratic Party.
He and his family have presented 38 Jon Mark Montgomery Scholarships (awarded to Hays High School seniors in memory of his son) and more than seven Jack and Lillian Montgomery Scholarships (awarded to Three Rivers High School seniors in his parents’ honor).
Mr. Montgomery enjoyed helping his wife at area craft shows, spending summers in the mountains of Ruidoso, N.M., and taking annual trips to Las Vegas with his sister.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Lillian Montgomery of Three Rivers; and youngest son, Jon Mark Montgomery.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Olna Montgomery of Wimberley; a daughter, Melayne Montgomery-Knezek of Austin; a son, Matthew Montgomery and his partner, Steve Merola, of San Antonio; a sister, Patsy Moyer; nephews, Monty Moyer and Dr. Steve Moyer of Oklahoma; and a “special brother,” Dr. Alejo Salinas Jr. of Hidalgo.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 23, at 11 a.m. at Buda United Methodist Church in Buda. A remembrance reception will follow at the Montgomery home in Austin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Jon Mark Montgomery Memorial Scholarship Fund, Hays High School, ATTN: Jacque Glomb, 4800 Jack C. Hays Trail, Buda, Texas, 78610; or the Montgomery Family Scholarship, Three Rivers High School, ATTN: Curry Newport, P.O. Box 391, Three Rivers, Texas, 78071.
Arrangements were under the direction of Porter Loring Mortuary North, San Antonio.

Dunn
Ruth E. (Miller) Dunn, 81, of Belton died Friday, July 15, 2005. Visitation was held Monday at the Galloway & Sons Chapel in George West. The funeral was held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in George West, with Pastor Bruce Irving officiating. Joe Dunn and A.J. Viertel provided music.
Burial followed at Beeville Memorial Park. Pallbearers were James and Lonnie Stewart, Gary Gillett, Joe Dunn, Bill Litle and Stewart Brinkoeter.
Mrs. Dunn was born May 22, 1924, to Sylvester William and Callie Blanche (Williams) Miller in San Patricio County. She married Warren A. “Gus” Dunn on March 24, 1948, in Beeville. She was a member of First Baptist Church in George West and was a rancher.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren A. “Gus” Dunn on May 21, 1980.
Survivors include her daughter, Janie Dunn (Larry) Smith of Conroe; a son, Dr. Warren (Susie) Dunn of Belton; five grandchildren, Jason Smith, Janette McDonald, Jana Smith, Cheryl Ragan and Matt Dunn; two great-grandchildren, Jamie and Jaden; and two sisters, Rose Brinkoeter of Sinton and Susie Riesinger of Woodville.

Cave
Jennifer Rae Cave, 21, died on Aug. 18, 2005, in Austin.
She was born March 12, 1984, to Charles and Sharon (Custer) Cave. She attended school in Bishop before moving to Corpus Christi in 2000 and graduated from Carroll High School in 2002. She was employed as a legal assistant in an Austin law firm.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, W.C. Custer.
Survivors include her mother, Sharon (Custer) Cave, of Corpus Christi; her father, Charles Cave of Sinton; two sisters, Vanessa Cox of Dallas and Lauren Cave of Norman, Okla.; a brother, Clayton Cave of Sinton; her grandmother, Myrtle Hines Custer of Fredericksburg; two uncles, Brian Custer of Seattle, Wash., and Jason (Heather) Custer of Alice; a niece, Hannah Custer; a nephew, Chaney Custer; her extended family, Jim Sedwick, Whitney Sedwick and Hailey Sedwick; and numerous great-aunts, great-uncles and many relatives of George West. She was the great-granddaughter of Ruby Hines.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a favorite children’s charity.
Visitation was held Monday, Aug. 22, at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel in Corpus Christi. The funeral service was held Tuesday, Aug. 23, at All Saints Episcopal Church in Corpus Christi. A private burial followed at the George West Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Seaside Memorial Park and Funeral Home, Corpus Christi.

Dolan
Lillyan Joyce Dolan, 67, of George West, died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005, in George West. A rosary was recited Friday evening at Galloway and Sons Chapel in George West. Funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church in George West, with Father Joseph Olikkara officiating. Burial followed at the Gussettville Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Augustin Lara, Augustin Lara Jr., Jesus Lara, Jerry Lara, Juan Lara and Felix Carranza Jr.
Miss Dolan was born Aug. 4, 1938, to Michael O’Hara and Lillyan J. (Lyne) Dolan in Beeville. She was a homemaker and a member of St. George Catholic Church in George West.
Survivors include one sister, Carol Lyne Dolan of George West; three cousins, Rufus R. Lyne and John Monty Lyne both of George West and Sarah Lyne McSpadden of Lubbock.

Findley
Claire Joy (Luther) Findley, 75, of Tilden, died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2005, in Tilden.
The funeral was held Monday, Aug. 22, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Palacios. Interment followed at the Palacios Cemetery.
Mrs. Findley was preceded in death by her first husband, Colwell Dilworth; and two sons, James Colwell Dilworth and Randolph Mason Dilworth.
Survivors include her husband, Jack Findley of Tilden; a daughter, Louise Dilworth (Tom) Davis of San Antonio; four grandchildren of San Antonio; a brother, Charles (Donna Rose) Luther of Katy; an aunt, Marian Callaway (Sam) Perkins of San Marino, Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Fudge
Maggie Ann (Copeland) Fudge, 92, of The Woodlands, formerly of Three Rivers, died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005.
Visitation was held Sunday, Aug. 21, at Roberson Funeral Chapel in Three Rivers. A graveside service was held Monday, Aug. 22, at 10 a.m. in Three Rivers Cemetery.
Mrs. Fudge was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Lewis Fudge; three brothers, James Dee, Bennie Edward and Charlie R. Copeland; three sisters, Weda Moorman, Imogene Tindol and Sue Hale.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty (Jack) Yovanovich of The Woodlands and Ann (Cliff) Calloway of Willis; two grandsons, Rod Herring of Round Rock and Jack Yovanovich Jr. of El Dorado Hills, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Daniel and Melissa Herring of Round Rock and Caroline and Ki Yovanovich of El Dorado Hills, Calif.; and two sisters, Betty Wagner of George West and Dorothy George of Sierra Vista, Ariz.

Manuel Gonzales Jr., 75, of George West died Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2005.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Galloway and Sons Chapel in George West. Funeral Mass was celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church in George West with Father Joseph Olikkara officiating. Burial followed at George West Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Andy Gonzalez, Sammy Gonzalez and Robert Saldana.
Mr. Gonzalez was born Nov. 16, 1929, to Manuel and Gusta (Saenz) Gonzalez in Rio Grande Valley. He married Juanita Mendez in George West and was owner and operator of Gonzalez Wrecker Service.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Sovida Treviño; and a brother, Samuel Gonzalez.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Gonzalez of George West; a son, Sam Gonzalez of George West; five daughters, Ermelinda Gonzalez (Leo Herrera) and Oralia Gonzalez, both of George West, Gloria and Mary Lou Gonzalez (Felipe), both of Oklahoma and Embersalia Gonzalez (Mario) of Austin; 15 grandchildren, Amanda Christmas, Irma Cano, Andy Gonzalez, Fernando Garcia, Danny Garcia, Ashley Crystal, Jake Crystal, Tasha Roberts, Angel Roberts, Joshua Roberts, Krista Cooper, Maline Cooper, Caleb Gonzalez, Joey Gonzalez and Carlos Gonzalez; six great-grandchildren, Chelsea Serrano, Amber Saldana, Robert Saldana Jr., Jesus Martinez, Damien Cano and Michelle Ramirez; a brother, Chon Gonzalez of George West; and five sisters, Midtha Martinez, America Reyes and Palma Peña, all of George West, and Maria and Embersalia Zuniga both of Comanche.

Ruby Harrod, 90, of Oakville, died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2005 at a local nursing home.
Visitation was held Monday, Aug. 22, at the Oakville Baptist Church. Funeral service was held Tuesday, Aug. 23, at 3 p.m., at the Oakville Baptist Church. Interment followed at the Oakville Cemetery.
Mrs. Harrod was born to William Edgar and Mary Olive (Goodwin) Ross on July 25, 1915 in Lagarto.
Survivors include two sons, Wood E. and Jimmie C. Harrod both of Oakville; and one brother, Jesse Ross of Columbus.
