Rangel
Antonio “Tony” Rangel Jr., 18, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, at his residence in George West.
Tony was born on Feb. 18, 1986 to Antonio and Virginia Rangel in Beeville. He was a 2004 graduate of George West High School, where he played football for the Longhorns and he proudly wore the No. 24. He was a freshmen at Coastal Bend College in Beeville. He was employed by Lyssy and Eckel Feed Store in George West.
Survivors include his parents, Antonio and Virginia Rangel of George West, two sisters, Melissa Colunga and Esmie Rangel, both of George West; paternal grandparents, Roque and Victoria (Hernandez) Rangel of Mexico; maternal grandmother, Inocente Cuevas of George West; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation was held Friday, Sept. 24, at the St. George Catholic Church and the rosary was recited at 7 o’clock that evening. The funeral was held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the St. George Catholic Church. Burial followed at the George West Cemetery.

Villanueva
Tomasa Aguirre Villanueva, 92, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004, at her residence in George West.
Mrs. Villanueva was born Sept. 5 ,1912, to Eugenio and Encarnacion Aguirre in Nordheim. She was the sixth of 13 children. Mrs. Villanueva was a member of St. George Catholic Church. She enjoyed sewing and quilting.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dionicio Villanueva; two sons, Ernesto Aguirre and Thomas Gomez.
Survivors include eight daughters, Anita (Harry) Thomas of Olton, Elisa (Andres) Garcia of Seguin, Elida (Seferino) Serna of Pawnee, Guadalupe (Jim) Sheffield of Victoria, Antonia (Rene) Longoria of Aransas Pass, Genoveva (Luis) Ponce and Elvira (Esteban) Alaniz, both of George West and Elvia Ortiz of Amarillo; three sons, Dionicio Villanueva of Bartlesville Okla., Domingo (Sharon) Villanueva of West Covina, Calif. and Leonides (Alice) Villanueva of Levelland; 64 grandchildren, 112 great-grandchildren, 31 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gregoria Treviño of Austin and Edolina Rios of Rio Grande City; one brother, Ubaldo Aguirre of George West; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 27, at St. George Catholic Church. The funeral was held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 28, at St. George. Burial followed at Our Lady of Guadalupe Cemetery in Pawnee.
Pallbearers were Buddy Villanueva, Freddie Gomez, Christopher Alaniz, Michael Martinez, Luis Ponce Jr., Rene Serna, Eugenio Perez Jr. and Johnny Garcia.

Ybañez
Lauro “Larry” Ybañez, 63, of George West died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004. Visitation was held Tuesday at the Galloway & Sons Chapel in George West, followed by a rosary that evening. The funeral Mass will be celebrated this afternoon (Wednesday, Nov. 24), at 3 o’clock at St. George Catholic Church, with Father Joseph Olikkara officiating. Burial will follow in the George West Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Richard “Ben” Cantu, Chris Valverde, Byron Sarimento, Bryan Kenneth Carvajal, Johnny Ximenez and Jose Manuel Torres.
Mr. Ybañez was born Dec. 10, 1940, to Frutoso and Emilia (Alvarez) Ybañez in George West. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and worked as a fireman with the Corpus Christi Fire Department. He was self employed and former owner of Alma Latina Bar.
Mr. Ybañez was preceded in death by his father, Frutoso Ybañez.
Survivors include a daughter, Laura Ybañez of Corpus Christi; a grandson, Bryan Kenneth Carvajal of Corpus Christi; his mother, Emilia (Alvarez) Ybañez of George West; a brother, Felipe Ybañez of Corpus Christi; three sisters, Minerva (Luis) Valverde and Elma (Oscar) Sarimento, all of George West and Elia (Jim) Wilburn of San Antonio; his ex-wife, Ramona DeLeon of Corpus Christi; and numerous nieces and nephews.

WAGNER
Lee Roy Wagner, 80, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004. He was born April 1, 1924, in Blanco to Lem Wagner and Myrtle Reeves-Byrd.
Mr. Wagner served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Coxswain for 28 months of sea duty. Upon his discharge in 1946, he married Melba Jonas.
Mr. Wagner was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Melba Wagner of Blanco; a son, Foy (Connie) Wagner of San Antonio; five daughters, Ann (Bruce) Ayer of Las Vegas, Nev., Cindy (Sam) Tyre of Blanco, Lynda Lipke of San Antonio, Michelle (Rick) Thompson of New Braunfels and Nancy Wagner of Blanco; 17 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, at the First Baptist Church in Blanco. Burial followed in the Blanco Cemetery.
Clarence “Shorty” James Shields, Sr.
May 7, 1934 — January 16, 2005
“God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So, he put his arms around you and whispered, “Come to Me.” With tearful eyes we watched you and saw you pass away, and though we loved you dearly we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.”
Clarence “Shorty” James Shields, Sr. went to be with the Lord, surrounded by family, on January 16, 2005, at the age of 70. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Darline Shields. Shorty made many friends in South Texas, while in construction. Later, the couple made many more friends in Brazoria County during the 16 years he worked for Dow Chemical Company. Shorty and Darline retired in Calliham, Texas, in 1996. Wherever they lived, their home was always a warm place where friends were welcomed with open arms. Shorty deeply loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He loved watching his family grow. He had a genuine love and special bond with all children. Whether telling stories, picking the guitar, or serving up his famous bar-b-que, Shorty made sure bellies were full and smiles were big.
He is survived by his daughter Kathy Talbert and husband Jimmy, of Jones Creek, son Clarence Jr. “Bubba” Shields and wife Karen, of Calliham, daughter Debbie Bryington and husband Greg, of Brazoria, son Mike Shields and wife Kennea, of Richwood, daughter Jeannie Snider and husband Duff, of Three Rivers, 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, sister Doris Ann Nelson of Wills Point, brother Melvin Shields and wife Betty, of Adkins and other relatives and many dear friends.
Visitation will begin Tuesday, January 18, 2005, at 6:30 p.m. with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tilden, Texas. Graveside services will be held on Friday, January 21, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at the Calliham Cemetery, in Calliham, Texas. Arrangements have been made with Roberson’s Funeral Home in Three Rivers, Texas.
Esse
James E. Esse, 72, of Peggy, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2005. He was born March 22, 1932, in Karnes County to William Herman and Mary (Retzloff) Esse. He married Ann Hazzard in Fashing on July 12, 1952.
Mr. Esse served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 in Germany. He was a farmer/rancher and a member of Fashing United Methodist Church. He was a past member of the Three Rivers School Board, Live Oak County Appraisal District, past director of the Three Rivers Co-op, administrating council of the Fashing United Methodist Church and served on the Fashing Cemetery Association.
Mr. Esse was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Esse of Peggy; a son, James Keith (Karen) Esse of Peggy; a daughter, Pam (Steve) Stapleton of Three Rivers; two brothers, Willie H. (Margaret) Esse Jr. of Peggy and Roy L. (Carolyn) Esse of Esseville; three sisters, Mildred Giese of Campbellton, Janie Froenher of San Antonio and Bernice “Tuttie” (Albert) Schroeder of Peggy; three grandchildren, Kevin Esse of Corpus Christi, Shane Stapleton of College Station and Amanda Stapleton of Three Rivers; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held today, Wednesday, Jan. 26 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Galloway & Sons Chapel in Three Rivers. The funeral will be held Thursday, Jan. 27 at 10 a.m. at Fashing United Methodist Church in Fashing with Dr. Jack Bush officiating. Precious Memories will be sung by Carroll Retzloff. Organist will be JoAnn Stewart. Burial will follow in the Fashing Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Richard Pilgrim, Dr. Lyn Esse, Scott Esse, Warren Giese, Maurice Giese, Tim Jambers, David Purser and Warren Woelfel. Honorary pallbearers will be Kip Gibbs, Ed Brown, James Keese, Alfred Krueger, Cecil Boeing, Al Cobb and Buddy Raines.

Garcia
Olegario G. Garcia, 78, of Rockdale, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005. He was born March 6, 1926, in Berclair to Fernando and Beatrice (Garza) Garcia.
Mr. Garcia married Romana Perez on Oct. 30, 1951 in Beeville. He was the owner of a trucking company.
Mr. Garcia was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Romana Garcia of Rockdale; and children, Viola (John) Rivera of Rockport, Rose (Dan Barrientes) Loya, Luciano (Mary Ann) Garcia, Didi (Frank) Juarez, Yolanda (Joaquin) Perez, Zina (Domingo) Juarez and Celestino Montez, all of Rockdale, Angela (Lloyd) Snider of George West and Ricardo Montez of Corpus Christi; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Rosary was recited on Tuesday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home in Beeville. Funeral Mass will be celebrated today, Wednesday, Jan. 26, at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Beeville with Father Luke Thirunelliparambil officiating. Burial will follow in Beeville Memorial Park.

Hornung
Lois E. Hornung, 89, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at her home after a long illness.
Mrs. Hornung was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Hornung, and her son, Grady Hornung.
Survivors include a daughter, Gail Crawford of San Antonio; a daughter-in-law, Pat Hornung of Cisco; four grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Tuesday, Jan. 25 at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Three Rivers. Burial followed at the Ray Point Cemetery.
