Harris
Morris Ray Harris Sr. 83, died Nov. 11, 2003. He was born on Nov. 15, 1919, in Mineral, Texas, to the late Rufus Calvin Harris and Pearl Stroman Harris.
Survivors include his wife, Joye Thomas Harris; sons, Ray (Jan) Harris Jr. of Olney, Texas, John C. (Betty) Harris of Austin, James E. (Terry) Harris of Sugarland, Texas; and Richard C. (Kathleen) Harris of Houston; 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild and numerous nephews and nieces.
He graduated from Pettus High School, attended Schreiner Institute and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1941. After working for CPA firms in Tyler and Corpus Christi, he became associated with Goldston & Harris Inc., a marine construction firm in Corpus Christi and served as president until the firm sold in 1944. Commissioned an ensign in the Unite States Navy in May 1944, he served in the South Pacific and Aleutian Islands and was discharged in Seattle, Wash., in March 1946. After the war, he and his family moved to George West where he went into the sand and gravel business with his brother, Stroman Harris. He became a certified public accountant and started a CPA firm which became known as Harris, Havins & Co.
After serving eight years as Live Oak County Auditor, Ray became the San Patricio County Auditor 1959 where he served until his retirement in 1984.
He was active in the Texas Society of CPAs, the American Institute of CPAs, where he was awarded a 50-year honorary membership in 2002. He also served as president of the Texas Association of County Auditors in 1980 and 1981. Ray was also instrumental in setting up the Standardized Accounting System used in Texas counties today.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Sinton and the Sinton Rotary Club.
He was a member of the San Patricio County Airport Board and served as president of the Sinton Municipal Golf Association from 1983 to 1985. He was an avid golfer, hunter, and fisherman and enjoyed visits with his family at the Harris Ranch on the Nueces River.
Visitation was held Thursday, Nov. 13, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home in Beeville.
Services were held Friday, Nov. 14, at First United Methodist Church in Sinton. Interment followed at Glenwood Cemetery in Beeville.
Dugat
Francisca “Francis” Marie (Kessler) Dugat, 91, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, at her residence in Beeville.
She was born in Skidmore on March 4, 1912, to Victor Edmund and Hedwig (Rennert) Kessler. She graduated from Westmoreland High School and attended college. She married William D. Dugat in San Antonio on Feb. 16, 1933.
Mrs. Dugat was a member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church and a housewife. She was a member of the Birthday Club, Rosetta Club, Beta Club, Wednesday Luncheon Club, Bee County Historical Society, Women of St. Philip’s and honorary member of Junior Service League. She and her husband were selected as honorees at the 42nd annual show of the South Texas Hereford Association in 1978.
Mrs. Dugat was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 50 years, William D. Dugat; a sister, Virginia Long; and son-in-law, Dr. Dudley Braly.
Survivors include a daughter, Diana Braly of Beeville; a son, the Rev. Bill (Gwen) Dugat of Fredericksburg; five grandchildren, Bill (Kathy) Dugat III of Austin, Wendy (Rob) Schneider and Alice (Mike) Whitley, all of George West, Anita (Marty) English of Dallas and Suzanne (Mike) Marshall of Pensacola, Fla.; 10 great-grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
Visitation was held Friday at the Galloway & Sons Chapel in Beeville.
The funeral was held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Beeville with the Rev. Adrian Amaya officiating. Burial followed in the Glenwood Cemetery in Beeville.
Active pallbearers were Bill Dugat III, Rob Schneider, Mike Whitley, Dr. Marty English, Russell English, Bill Dugat IV and Raymond Welder.

Snider
Randall Wayne Snider, 43, of George West died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, in Live Oak County.
Mr. Snider was born May 12, 1960, in Beeville to William Edward and Anita Louise (Lowrie) Snider. He worked as a sales representative for Beta International, and was a member of the First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include one son, Zachary Dillon Snider of George West; one daughter, Mackenzie Elise Snider of George West; one brother, Lloyd “Tootie” Snider of George West; two sisters, Diana Sue Forehand of Corpus Christi and Laura Kathleen “Punky” Sample of Bryan; one half-sister, Shana Snider Strause of Pflugerville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Sunday at the Galloway & Sons Chapel in George West. The funeral was Monday at the First Baptist Church in George West, with the Rev. Bruce Irving officiating. Burial followed in the George West Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Carlos Briseño, Guy Freiley, Jesse Valverde, Jody Hines, Jeff Hubert and Stevie Steen. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Lowrie, Joseph Snider, Andrew Snider, Charles Snider, Taylor Dove, Greg Snider, Erik Snider, Cody Barrett and Jerry Troell.

Ysidra Chavarria
Ysidra Chavarria, 91, of Three Rivers died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, in Live Oak Nursing Center following a long illness.
Mrs. Chavarria was born to Brijido and Guadalupe Rodriguez on May 15, 1912, in Campbellton. She was one of 15 children. She married Guadalupe Chavarria on March 19, 1935 in Alice.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, 14 brothers and sisters; one son, Manuel Chavarria; and one daughter, Mary Barrientes.
Survivors include one son, Arturo Chavarria of Three Rivers; five daughters, Enriquetta (Joe) Muñoz and Carmelita (Charles) Moreno of Three Rivers, Guadalupe (Alfredo) Lopez of Corpus Christi, Mary O. (Gilbert) Torres of Three Rivers; and Delia (John) Casarez of Red Oak; 32 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
Rosary was recited on Oct. 31 in the Roberson Funeral Home Chapel in Three Rivers. Mass was celebrated on Nov. 1 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Three Rivers. Burial followed in the Three Rivers Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mrs. Chavarria’s granddaughters: Melissa Farias, Irma Lea Molina, Ada Flores, Janie Kohl, Myrna Santiago, Yolanda Cunningham, Krystal Casarez and Imelda Marty De Leon.

Lester “Dusty” Davis
Lester “Dusty” Davis, 85, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, at Live Oak Nursing Center in George West.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home chapel in George West. Funeral services will take place Friday at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in George West with the Rev. Bruce Irving officiating. Burial will follow in George West Cemetery.
Mr. Davis was born on June 8, 1918, to William Thomas and Carrie Etta (Lewis) Davis, in Fort Cobb, Okla. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Lotana Faye Berna in 1936 in Raymondville. He resided in George West, where he was a retired stock contractor and rodeo producer. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Emmett, Wesley and Fred Davis and two sisters, Irene King and Mary Webb.
Survivors include his wife, Lotana Faye Davis; three sons, Doyle Davis and wife Francis, Robert Davis and wife Nancy and L.T. Davis and wife Martha, all of George West; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Whitmire
Woodrow W. Whitmire, 87, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2003. He was born Sept. 17, 1916 in Corpus Christi.
Mr. Whitmire was a member of the First Baptist Church in Three Rivers. He farmed for 40 years and ranched for more than 60 years. He had interest in Cotton Gin, Grain Elevator and Live Oak Livestock Auction.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jessie C. Whitmire; his first wife, Gwendolyn Whitmire; four brothers and one sister.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie Mae Whitmire; two sons, Terry Whitmire and Roger Whitmire, both of Corpus Christi; a daughter, Kathy Queen of Canyon Lake; two step-sons, William Thomas and Robert Thomas, both of Mathis; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Sunday at Roberson Funeral Chapel in Three Rivers.
The funeral was Monday at the First Baptist Church in Three Rivers. A graveside service was held at 3 p.m. at Memory Gardens in Corpus Christi.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First Baptist Church or the Al-Amin children’s fund.

Morris
Harvey Lee Morris, 76, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at his residence. Mr. Morris was born to Quincy Lee and Grace Hines (Marmon) Morris in Altus, Okla., on Oct. 19, 1927. He was a retired business owner and a U.S. Air Force veteran having served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of First Baptist Church, George West.
Survivors include his mother, Grace Morris of George West; two sisters, Jeanette Boshears of Waller and Joanna Walker of Spring; two brothers, Gary Lee Morris of Houston and Ronnie Mack Morris of Waller; a sister-in-law, Bettie Joe Morris, of Houston; and nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held Monday at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in George West with the Rev. Bruce Irving officiating. Burial followed in the St. George Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bobby Joe Morris II, William Lee Morris, William Lee Morris II, Vernon Ray Morris and James Michael Gilbertson.
Honorary pallbearers were Donald Louis Morris and George Norris.
