Clemons
Christine B. Clemons, 74, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, in an Alice hospital following a long illness. She was born in George West on Aug. 18, 1927, and was a longtime resident of Alice. She had previously worked for the Atrium.
She was preceded in death by her son, Robert “Bobby” Keith Clemons, in 1996.
Survivors include her husband, E.R. “Pepper” Clemons of Alice; two sons, Dennis R. Clemons of Laredo and Richard Dean Clemons of Georgetown; one daughter, Paula Clemons of Lexington; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held Monday at the Roberson Funeral Home chapel in Alice. The funeral was Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the West Main Baptist Church with the Rev. David Parks officiating.
A graveside service followed at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Colonial Gardens Memorial Park in Victoria.

Latham
Mildred Ann Latham, 66, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002.
The funeral is being held at 2 o’clock this afternoon (Wednesday) at the Galloway & Sons chapel in George West, with the Rev. Steve Briggs officiating.
Burial is to follow in the Latham Cemetery in the Anna Rose community in McMullen County.
Mrs. Latham was born March 30, 1935, in Hargill to Gladys (Smith) and Pete Hunt. She married Floyd C. Latham on July 15, 1952, in Falfurrias. She had resided on the George West Ranch in McMullen County’s Anna Rose community for 16 years. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by a son, Floyd C. Latham Jr.
Survivors include her husband, Floyd C. Latham of George West; two sons, David Latham and wife Cindy of Tilden and Ronald Latham and wife Beverly of Sinton; a daughter, Darla Lopez and husband Michael of Spring; a sister, Katy Abbott and husband Shawver of Strawn; two brothers, Henry Hunt and wife Nancy of San Antonio and Nelson Hunt and wife Charlotte of Kermit; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous other relatives.

Odom
Gussie A. Odom, 87, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, in a San Antonio hospital following a long illness. She was born in Alvarado to Randall M. and Laura “Coggins” Holbrook. She owned and operated the Modern Beauty Salon for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Three Rivers.
Survivors include two sons, Randall Odom and Wayne Odom, both of Houston; one daughter, Lou Ann Kyle of San Antonio; two brothers, Carl (Mable) Holbrook and Bill (Mary) Holbrook, both of Leakey; one sister, Ann Rosaly of Portland, Ore.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held Friday at the Roberson Funeral chapel. The funeral service, officiated by the Rev. Bob Hobbins, was Saturday at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Three Rivers. Interment followed in the Three Rivers Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jeffrey, Kyle, Kenneth and Clay Odom, Chris and David Kyle and Scot Hutcheson.

Taylor
Mary Frances McGuffin Taylor, 85, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002. She was born Nov. 7, 1916, and lived most of her life in Dinero and Beeville before moving to San Antonio. She worked for the U.S. Post Office here for more than 30 years. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in George West and St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Beeville.
Survivors include her daughter, Cindi Taylor Krier and husband Joe of San Antonio; and many nieces and nephews.
Contributions may be made to St. Philip’s Church or St. Philip’s School in Beeville, the Church of the Good Shepherd or the Barshop Center for Longevity and Aging at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.
The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Philip’s Church. Burial followed in Glenwood Cemetery in Beeville.

Davis
Hazel C. Davis, 90, died Saturday, May 25, 2002, in Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville. She was a resident of Live Oak Nursing Center in George West.
Mrs. Davis was born Nov. 29, 1911, in Anadarko, Caddo County, Okla., to John D. and Emma (Mahaffey) Crabtree. She married Fred Lee Davis on Dec. 12, 1928, in Anadarko. Five children were born to this union. The couple and three of their children moved to George West in November 1945 from California.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1976; a son, Aubrey Lee, in 1973; infant daughter, Anita Ruth, in 1934; and infant son, Jerry Fred, in 1952; and a son-in-law, Dooley Doebbler, in 1997.
Survivors include a daughter, Vivian Doebbler of George West; a son, Frank (Mary Ann) Davis of George West; a daughter-in-law, Alice Davis of Kingsville; eight grandsons; four granddaughters; 10 great-grandsons; eight great-granddaughters; two brothers, Jim Crabtree of Anadarko, Okla., and Hess Crabtree of Wagoner, Okla.; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lester and Lotana Davis of George West; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Monday at the Roberson Funeral Home in Three Rivers.

Burell
Coley Burell, 73, of George West, died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at Christus Spohn Hospital, Beeville. Mr. Burell was born May 6, 1929, in George West to Albert H. and Anna Mussman Burell. He married Carolyn Massey on July 6, 1982, in New Braunfels. Mr. Burell was a ranch foreman.
He was a member of Church of Christ. He attended First Baptist Church in George West. His hobbies included hunting and fishing and he loved to work.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Burell of George West; a daughter, Shirley (Robert) Gruver of Allen; two sons, Dale Burell (Danette) Burell and Robert Burell, all of George West; a step-son, Leroy James (Kim) Phillips of New Braunfels; a step-daughter, Melissa (Dave) Pelz of Dripping Springs; three brothers, Hubert Burell of Uvalde, Hugo (Cornelia) Burell of Gonzales and Henry (Mary Jane) Burell of Marion; nine grandchildren, Anna Melissa Bogle-Melendez, Matthew Harris Bogle, Andrea Lynn Burell, Robert Burell Jr., Margarite Burell, Bartholomew Burell, Daralyn Burell, Sarah Burell and Layne Phillips; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held Friday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in George West with the Rev. Bruce Irving officiating. Burial was at the George West Cemetery. Pallbearers were Leroy James Phillips, Larry Massey, Marcelino Loza, Matt Bogle and Bill Holland. Honorary pallbearer was Ike Houdmann.

Fuentes
Cruz R. Fuentes Sr., 71, of Corpus Christi died Sunday, July 21, 2002.
Mr. Fuentes was born in Beeville. He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was a former employee of Wencar, Inc. and Kroger Grocery. He played semi-professional baseball with the Blue Jays. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church.
Mr. Fuentes is survived by his wife, Paz Fuentes of Corpus Christi; his daughter, Linda Mae Gonzales of San Antonio; three sons, Cruz Fuentes Jr. of George West, Marc Fuentes of Corpus Christi and Michael Fuentes of Alice; two sisters, Jo Ethel Valdez of Austin and Rosa Alaniz of Sugar Land; a brother, Luis Fuentes Jr. of Enterprise, Ala.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Rosary was recited Tuesday evening, July 23, at 7 o’clock at St. Pius X Church. Mass was celebrated Wednesday, July 24, at 10 a.m. at the same location. Burial followed at Seaside Memorial Park.
Arrangements were handled through Guardian Cremation and Funeral Service, Corpus Christi.

Mary (Viera) Harris Blann, 101, of Orange Grove died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, at her residence.
Mrs. Blann was born in San German, Puerto Rico. She received a master’s degree in home economics from Berea College in Berea, Ky. She managed the dining hall at Polytechnic Institute in San German for several years. In 1939, she moved with her husband and children to Dilley where she taught school for 35 years.
Mrs. Blann was preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence Harris; her second husband, Harry Blann; and one son, Fred W. Harris.
Survivors include two daughters, Jean H. (Sidney) Freeborn of Orange Grove and Sylvia H. (Dr. John Paul) Schulze of Corpus Christi; a daughter-in-law, Arline Harris of Dilley; a sister, Petra Viera of San Juan, Puerto Rico; two brothers, Pepin Viera and Henry Viera, both of San Juan, Puerto Rico; 12 grandchildren, Sharon (Dwain) Skrobarcek, Sidney (Leda) Freeborn Jr., Kathy (Jimmy) Strause, Lynn Weigand, Beth (Kevin Fetterman) Freeborn, Cynthia Schulze, Dr. Paula Schulze, Dr. John E. (Dr. Susan) Schulze, Debbie (Eric) Greve, Paul (Melissa) Harris, Nina Philyaw and Sherry (Jeff) Thiele; 21 great-grandchildren, Jarrett Skrobarcek, Gabriel Freeborn, Wesley Freeborn, Morgan Freeborn, Sidney Freeborn III, Doug (Shanna) Strause, Chris (Lola) Strause, Kate Strause, Megan Marlborough, Harley Fetterman, John Paul Schulze, Michael Schulze, Christopher Schulze, Marcus Schulze, Daniel Schulze, Jessica Greve, Alex Greve, Miles Harris, Tyler Harris, Dakota Harris and Natalie Thiele; two great-great-grandchildren, Bradley and Kayla Strause; a niece, Gloria Cuevas; and special friends, Estella Clark, Tina Clark and Catarina Carrillo.
The funeral was held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church in Dilley. Burial followed in the Dilley Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Sidney Freeborn Jr., Dr. John Edward Schulze, Paul Harris, Doug Strause, Gabriel Freeborn, John Paul Schulze, Christopher Schulze, Miles Harris and Jarrett Skrobarcek. Honorary pallbearers were all of her great-grandchildren.
