Everett ‘Buddy’ McGee

Everett “Buddy” McGee, 84 of Willowsprings, Texas, was born in Goose Creek, Texas, on Dec. 8, 1923, to proud parents, Ben and Anna (Hillhouse) McGee. Buddy quit the walks of his life on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. at Hermann Hospital in the Woodlands, after an extended illness and numerous medical complications.

Great Pa Pa embarked on that great journey into eternity Wednesday evening that each one of us will take one day. When death approached, it didn’t matter his wealth or his poverty, it didn’t matter his good works or accomplishments in this earthly walk, it didn’t even matter how much his family loved, and respected him. All that mattered was his relationship with his God.

As friends can’t help him now, and accolades can’t help him, only his relationship to God becomes important when the “curtain of life” has fallen. His family is comforted knowing that Buddy McGee has been a faithful Christian to the very end of this life, a member of the Fish Hatchery Road Church of Christ. He “did run well” (Gal. 5:7). This good and compassionate man prepared his spirit for this inevitable journey. He passed from this life with hope, and a promise, and that is real comfort to survivors at times like these. Buddy McGee has flown the fetters of time, and is enjoying boundless liberty, though he is dead, he yet lives. We would not bring him back if we could.

Starting at the age of 19, Sergeant Buddy McGee honorably served his country in the United States Army in the Philippine Asiatic Pacific Theater of operations in World War II as a welder in the 307th Bombardment Group from Dec. 8, 1942 to Dec. 10, 1945. He graduated from Kilgore High School and was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma where he received his Bachelor of Science degree. Buddy retired from Haliburton Company after three decades of service.

Buddy is survived by his wife, Viola McGee of Willowsprings; sisters, Mary Luise (McGee) Blakney and husband Sam of Baytown, Kathryn (McGee) Haffelfinger and husband Cecil of Wimberly; son, James Ray McGee and wife Judy of Willowsprings; daughter, Lena Rae (McGee) Irvin and husband Wallace of Danbury; 10 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Brooke Funeral Home, 672 FM 980, Huntsville from 6-8 p.m. today. Services will be held at the Church of Christ on Fish Hatchery Road at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, with Mr. Bruce Stulting officiating. Interment will follow at Raven Hill Cemetery.
