Travis Shawn Gerald

Travis was born in Guymon, Oklahoma but had been a Huntsville resident for the last 11 years. He is survived by his wife Rachel Gerald, son Shawn Gerald, daughter Riley Gerald of Huntsville, Texas and son Timothy Baker of Dalhart, Texas, mother and stepfather Gayle and Ty Spikes of Huntsville, father and stepmother Garland and Jan Gerald of Boise City, Oklahoma, brother Chad Gerald and his wife Stephanie along with their children Colton, Molly and Wesley of Conroe, Texas, brother Cody Smalts of Huntsville, sister Crystal Smalts of Huntsville, grandmothers Shannon Perkins of Dumas, Texas and Helen Belton of Aynor, South Carolina and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Travis graduated from Dalhart High School in 1990 and joined the United States Navy in 1991. He served in Desert Storm as a Rescue Swimmer and Anti Submarine Warfare Operator. He was honorably discharged in 1996 with several honors including the Navy Achievement Medal, the Southwest Asia Service Medal with Bronze Star and the National Defense Service Medal. Travis loved his family and friends dearly and loved more than anything to have them all together and around him at all times. He is well known in the family as the one that “KEPT THE FAMILY TOGETHER.”

We all love you Travis. You will always be in our thoughts and our Hearts!!!!!!

Services will be held Monday, July 23, 2007 at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home Chapel at 10 a.m. with Brother Jim Newton officiating. Military honors will follow the service at the chapel. The family will receive friends from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the SHMFH chapel.

Eugene E. Smith

Eugene E. “Gene” Smith was born on March 10, 1936, and died July 23, 2007, in Huntsville, Texas. He graduated from Silsbee High School and Texas A & M.

Mr. Smith was a member of University Heights Baptist Church.

Gene is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruby Jean Eledge Smith; son, Gregory and wife Teresa; grandson, Harrison Smith; granddaughter, Hannah Smith of La Porte; brother, Perry and wife Betsy Smith of Austin, Texas.

Services were held Thursday, July 26, 2007, at University Heights Baptist Church at 10 a.m. with Richard Rogers officiating.

Memorials can be made to the University Heights Baptist Church Building Fund in lieu of flowers.

Bonnie Bell Massey

Funeral services for Mrs. Bonnie Bell Massey will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2007, at 11 a.m. at the First Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1530 10th Street.

Burial will immediately follow in the Northside Cemetery. Public viewing for Ms. Massey will be 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Cox Funeral Home Chapel, on Friday, July 27, 2007.

Bonnie Bell Massey, 80 years old, passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2007, in Trinity, Texas. She leaves behind to cherish memories with her family, daughters, Edna Jewel Massey-Crawford (James) and Janie Ruth Massey-Smith (Ricky), both of Huntsville; sons, Oscar Massey, Jr. (Myra) and Frank Edward Massey, both of Huntsville; granddaughters, Pavia Clarkson, of Huntsville, Rhonda Bridges, of Willis and Donna Lewis of Houston; grandsons, Milford Hawkins Jr., of Houston and Horace Davison, of West, Texas; thirteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sisters, Birdie Bell Handy, of Huntsville and Beatrice Hester of Houston; devoted nephew, Cedric Landrum, Sr., a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Deborah Ruth Kincaid

Deborah Ruth Dailey Kincaid, 55, of Deer Park, Texas formerly of Huntsville, Texas, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, July 26, 2007.

The daughter of Sue Towery Dailey and Dan and Mick Dailey, she was born Dec. 31, 1951, in Crockett, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Charles and Ruth Towery of Crockett and Tom and Elizabeth Dailey of Grapeland.

Debbie graduated from Huntsville High School in 1969 and received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Sam Houston State University. She taught in the LaPorte School District at Lomax Elementary for 30 years.

Debbie is survived by her parents and her loving husband of 34 years, Bobby; her two sons, Chad and his wife Kristi, Darren; three sisters, Sharon Shearman and her husband John of Tucson, Anne Heartfield and her husband Bob of Huntsville, Shay Marmande of Katy; one brother, Dan Dailey Jr. and his wife, Barbie of Huntsville as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews, her many relatives and her beloved friends, as well as all the children whose lives she touched through her dedication to early education.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 29, from 5-8 p.m. at Niday Funeral Home, 12440 Beamer Road, Houston 77089.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 30, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church Pasadena, 7500 Fairmont Parkway, Pasadena, Texas 77505. Graveside services will be Monday at 3 p.m. at the Crockett Cemetery, Crockett, Texas. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Pasadena.

Zakareya Jamal Mufleh AlJaafreh

Zakareya AlJaafreh, otherwise known as "Zak" was born June 13, 1952, and passed away July 23, 2007. A long-time and well-known businessman of Walker County.

Zak started out managing U-tot-em on Highway 75 North. In 1984 he opened "Zak's Family Restaurant". From there he bought Motel 8 on I-45 and renamed it "Sunset Inn". He later built Corner Pantry on I-45. A short time later he sold the hotel and built Quick Pic on 11th Street and Martin Luther King and added a washateria. Years later he bought the old Phillips Station across the street and built Zipp Zapp.

In 2001 Zak was told by doctors in Houston that he had Lou Gehrigís disease.

His wife tried herbal treatments for two years which may have slowed the progression of the disease. Doctors told Zak and his family that he had three to nine months to live. Zak lived seven years after this diagnosis.

Zak, his wife and four children spent two wonderful weeks together, talking, going through pictures and memories. He then went home to Jordan to visit his father and mother, Jamal and Afifa, all ten of his brothers and sisters and their grown children and their children. Zak was always so happy when he called.

Zak went home to get an operation on his neck after which he was going to send for his wife and kids, but sadly he did not survive the after effects of the operation. Zak went into a deep sleep then the angels took him.

Zak is survived by his wife, Shirly AlJaafreh; children, Afifa, Jamal, Ahamid and Jameela AlJaafreh; parents, Jamal and Afifa; siblings, Zakkia, Zakki, Mona, Mohamid, Ahmid, Suad, NaJude, WaJude and Ferris AlJaafreh.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007, at 3 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1108 17th St. Memorial donations for the children may be made at the First National Bank of Huntsville.

Donald (Donnie) K. Burge

Donald (Donnie) K. Burge, 57, of Huntsville passed away July 30, 2007, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2007, at Brooke Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Warren Austin officiating. The family will receive visitors Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Brooke Funeral Home, 672 FM 980, Huntsville.

Mr. Burge was born Sept. 12, 1949, in Lumberton, Miss. to George and Faye Burge. He attended high school in Houston and played in the High School Band. He also formed a rock and roll band during that time. He loved Elvis music and loved to play the drums. He served in the Navy from November 1969 to February 1971. He worked as a printer for Star Engraving in Houston and he was a security guard for many years before retirement. He loved his brothers and sisters and was a very good and gentle person. He will be missed by many.

He is survived by 4 sisters, Brenda McKenney and husband Ronald of Riverside, Mary Johnson and husband Jimmy of Riverside, Renee Patrick and husband Neal of Magnolia, Sandra Rose and husband Cudahy of Magnolia; brother Gayron Burge and wife Dorothy of Tomball and many nieces and nephews.

The pallbearers will be Ronnie McKenney, Stacy Burge, Michael Hall, Michael Patrick, Kyle Patrick and Tiffany Leger.

Henry Ray Small

Henry Ray Small, 74, of Huntsville, passed from time to eternity to be with the Lord on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007. Henry will be remembered by all who knew him for the ever-present radiant smile on his face and the twinkle in his eyes. Henry was greatly loved by his family who will miss him dearly.

He loved his family and was always a strong presence in their lives. He attended Huntsville Public Schools, graduated from Sam Houston State University, and served his country in the United States Army.

He leaves to cherish his memories his beloved wife of 39 years Betty Sue, his beloved daughter Susan, and his ever present and faithful rat terrier Sweetie; sisters, Marjorie Barnes of Pompano Beach, Fla. and Imogene Hooks of Livingston; sister-in-law Alfreda Dobiyanski, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Donald and Sharon Dobiyanski and brother-in-law Raymond Dobiyanski; nephews Van H. Barnes, Jr., Everett Barnes, Bryan Barnes, Greg Dobiyanski and nieces Kristi and Traci Dobiyanski. His parents, Henry E. Small and Minnie Prentice Small, brother Donald Small and his father-in-law and mother-in-law Barney and Martha Dobiyanski, preceded Henry in death.

The family will receive friends from 5- 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2007, at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial, celebrating Henry’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Huntsville, where he was a faithful member. Rite of committal will follow at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery in Anderson, Texas at 2 p.m.

Honoring Mr. Small, as pallbearers will be James Farris, Wayne Prentice, Charles Eanes, James McComb, Bill Larrison, Jerry Prentice and Wally Villareal. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. and Mrs. T. C. Cole, Jr.

The family will be forever grateful and thankful for the outstanding medical care provided by Dr. T.C. Cole Jr. He was always there for Henry and his devoted care made Henry’s last years beautiful and pleasant.
