Andrew James Jones, 69, a long time resident of Huntsville, Texas passed away December 2, 2013 in Conroe, Texas. Mr. Jones was born July 9, 1943 in Riverside, Texas to George and Earler Jones. In keeping with his wishes he will be cremated at Brooke Crematory, and the family will hold private services at a later date.
Janice Elledge Steele
Janice Elledge Steele, 67, passed away on April 23, 2007. She was born June 16, 1939, in Graham, Texas. Janice was a graduate of Graham High School and attended the University of North Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband Newton J. Steele and her parents John Raymond Elledge and Margaret Elledge. She is survived by sons, Addison Steele and wife Susan of Chicago, Ill., Rod Steele and wife Dina of Dallas, Kelly Steele and wife Cari of Keller; daughter, Stephanie Hedrick and husband Larry of Durango, Colo.; grandsons, Cody Goolsby, Tanner Hedrick, Rodman Steele, and Cooper Steele; granddaughters, Brooke Hedrick, Jamie Hedrick and Faye Steele and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Huntstville Health Care for the excellent care they provided Janice in her final years and Odyssey House of Conroe for their love, comfort and compassion given to her in her final days.
Services will be held Thursday, April 26, 2007, in the Chapel of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral home with the Rev. Carroll Pickett officiating. Interment will follow at Brooke Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2007, at the funeral home.
Jessie M. Taylor
Jessie was born Jessie E. Meyers on July 12, 1921, to Hans A. and Mertie Long Meyers in Wichita Falls, Texas. She left us on April 23, 2007, after a short, but intense, illness. She was preceded in death by parents, her husband of 42 years, Ronald W. Taylor; great Grandson, Thomas Rife and her only sibling, Frank E. Meyers. Jessie loved a long, happy life filled with family and friends and in many interesting places in Texas (Wichita Falls, Houston, Trinity, Waxahachie, and Dallas), Oklahoma (Tulsa, Seminole, Covington, and Enid), and Reston, Va., and New Orleans, La. She retired from nursing at the age of 73. She loved playing bridge, gambling, traveling, and most of all, spending time with her animals.
Survivors include son, Randolph W, Taylor and his wife, Julie of New Orleans, La; daughter, Joanna Jones of Mesquite; granddaughters, Tanya Desmond of San Francisco, Calif. and Tiffany Hammer and her husband, Mark Manson of Dallas/New Orleans, La; grandson, Michael Hammer and his wife, Robin of Yukon Okla.; great-grandchildren, Lara and Billy Desmond and Trevor and Raleigh Hammer; sister-in-law, Mildred Meyers; nephews Eddie and Dennis Meyers and her long time companions, Stinky, Tortie and Little Kitty.
Private interment will be held at Brooke Cemetery under the direction of Brooke Funeral Services.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Jessie's name to your local animal shelter, the ASPCA or HSUS and, please remember Jessie and her family in your thoughts and prayers.
Friendo M. Doggett
Mr. Friendo M. Doggett, 45, of Huntsville passed away April 1, 2007, in Harris County, Texas. He was born Dec. 16, 1961, in Walker County, Texas. Funeral Services, under the direction of Williams & Sons Funeral Home, will be held Saturday, April 7, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Thessalonia Missionary Baptist Church, the Rev. John Spencer will officiate. Burial will follow in Rawls Cemetery. Friends and Family will serve as pallbearers. Mr. Doggett, a construction worker, was a member of Thessalonia Missionary Baptist Church.
He is survived by his mother, Lucille Doggett of Huntsville; daughter, Brandy Simmons of Trinity; two uncles, Roger Doggett (Doris) and Frank Doggett (Judy) both of Houston; an aunt, Delois Merchant (J.B.) of Huntsville and a host of other relatives and friends.
Dora Lee Ferguson
Dora Lee Ferguson, born Oct. 22, 1907, in Houston County, Texas, to Steve and Mary Brannen Baker, passed away April 8, 2007, in Irving, Texas at the age of 99. Mrs. Ferguson is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Robert Coda Ferguson. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, nephews, Lewis McPherson; Herbie Beard, and niece, Sandra Baker, Nora Ann Hart, Catherine Fails, Judy Downe, Jane German, Carolyn Blakley, and Barbara Barr, as well as great nieces and nephews Steve McPherson and wife Cindy, Keith McPherson and wife Elizabeth; Ricky Beard, Doralene Beard, and Tator Beard. Mrs. Ferguson also leaves behind special friends, Deborah Taylor, Cleo Woods, and Myran Coffman. Funeral services will be held today at 1 p.m., at the Huntsville Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Carroll Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Ivey Cemetery in Kennard, Texas under the direction of Huntsville Funeral Home.
Jean Alston
Jean Alston, age 79, died Wednesday April 25, 2007. after a brief but tough battle with cancer. Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Malcolm Alston.
She is survived by her four children, James Alston of Houston, Vicki Alfano of Castle Rock, Colo., Gary Alston of Katy and Janna Fries of Katy.
Jean was a very special person and will be dearly missed. Funeral services will be held Friday April 27, 2007,. at 3 p.m. at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home of Huntsville.
Carrie Mae Haynes
Mrs. Carrie Mae Haynes, 81, of Huntsville passed away April 21, 2007, in Walker County. She was born Jan. 11, 1926, in Cheridan, La.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 28, 2007, at 1 p.m. at Pine Bluff M.B. Church, the Rev. Moses Hightower will officiate. Burial will follow in the Pine Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Joe Matthews, Alex Dickey, Marcus Dickey, Henry Dickey, N.E. Smith, Tommy Smith and Craig Benard. Mrs. Haynes was a member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She worked faithfully as Missionary, Usher, Choir Member and Sunday School Teacher also working many years at New Zion Bar-B-Que.
Mrs. Haynes is survived by a daughter Aunthanett Dillard-Thompson (John); brothers Roy Jackson and William D. Jackson, Jr.; sisters, Lillian Holmes and Juanita Hicks (Chester), also Eugene Dickey (Joyce), Delois Johnson (Charles), Charlesetta Benard and Wanda Smith, The Dillards, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Thomas Richard Falk
Thomas Richard Falk, 84, of Huntsville, passed away Dec. 30, 2007 in Huntsville.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2007, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in New Waverly with Father Dave Kennedy officiating. Interment will follow in the Addickes addition of the Oakwood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Huntsville Funeral Home.
Mr. Falk was preceded in death by his parents, Lige and Tannie (Wright) Falk and his wife, Rovena Falk.
Mr. Falk followed in his father’s footsteps by working for the Elkins family as a caretaker long before its development. He worked there until his retirement. Mr. Falk also loved hunting and fishing. Left to cherish his memory are his two sisters, Alice Olbrych of New Waverly, and Martha Cates of Houston; two nephews, Randal Cates and wife Darlene of New Waverly and David Cates of Houston; one great-nephew, Bryan Cates and wife Jessica of New Waverly; two great-nieces, Rachel Forsythe and husband Spencer of Highland Village, and Allison Cates of Houston; and numerous cousins.
A rosary was held Tuesday at the Huntsville Funeral Chapel.
James (Jimmy) Russell Hoot
James (Jimmy) Russell Hoot was born March 11, 1953, and passed away Dec. 30, 2007, at the age of 54. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Aaron Burr and Annie Hoot and one sister, Beverly Hoot.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, at 11 a.m., at the Huntsville Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Reagan Cooksey officiating. Interment will follow in the Hoot Family Cemetery near Dodge. Arrangements are under the direction of Huntsville Funeral Home.
James was an excellent trombone player and loved the game of baseball while playing and attending Cy- Fair High school. He loved nature and the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He also was a lover of John Wayne movies and most westerns. He moved to Huntsville a year ago when he retired from his security guard job and his own business.
He was a loving father and grandfather. Left to cherish his memory are his son, Robert Joe Hoot Ford and daughter, Lexie, and his daughter, Jamie Michelle Hoot.
He is also survived by his parents, Robert Hoot of Trinity and Olive Mae Hoot of Dodge; three brothers, Robert Hoot and wife Sally of Schulenburg, Michael Hoot and wife Michele of Huntsville, Aaron Hoot and wife Ruth of Dodge; and one sister, Joann Hoot of Huntsville, my beloved Aunt Mary, many nieces, nephews, and other family.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Cancer Society, 212 Gene Samford Dr., Lufkin, TX, 75904.
Albert L. ‘Charlie’ Hill
Albert L. “Charlie” Hill, Jr., 83, passed away Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007. He was born Oct. 7, 1924, in Kent County, Texas.
He served in the Army during World War II. Charlie spent his youth in Corpus Christi and Rockport and later was a resident of Huntsville. He was currently a resident of Belton, Texas. He worked as a captain on boats and later built wooden boats.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; two children, Sammy Hill and Mildred Joan Meadows; great-grandson, Timothy and great great-grandson, Dylan.
He is survived by his wife, Pattie of Belton; two daughters, Patty (Roy) de la Garza of Lake Hills, Texas and B.J. (Rodney) Evans of Portland, Texas; Debbie Hill of Annaville, Texas; two step-sons, Brad (Ruth Wood) Prickett of Carmine, Texas and Greg (Susan) Prickett of Sugar Land, Texas; step-daughter, Merianne Prickett of Austin, Texas; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.
Viewing and visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. and funeral services will begin at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, at Rockport Cemetery.
